00:00Well, on this exact same topic here, the NCAA is saying that they've permanently suspended three men's basketball players from San Jose State and Fresno State,
00:08this for betting on each other's games during the 2024-25 regular season.
00:13The NCAA says two of the student athletes manipulated their performances on the court,
00:18all to ensure that certain bets were won, including one with a payout of close to $16,000 on a $2,200 bet, all on that underperformance.
00:26Now, the three players were released from their respective teams and were neither no longer enrolled at their schools either.
00:32Yeah, and I hope that with the NIL era, college athletes would go through the legal professional ways to build their financial portfolio.
00:39But as we're seeing with all of these stories, college and pro sports betting is prevalent, especially for players.
00:44But you will get caught. There were records indicating they were texting each other.
00:47They were planning out how they were going to be performing and what to bet on.
00:52And as you mentioned, it's anywhere from a couple hundred dollars here and there to up to about $16,000.
00:57They were all three students at Fresno State at one point before one did transfer out.
01:01So friends, former roommates, former teammates that got involved in this scandal.
01:06And all good money is not good money, especially quick money.
01:09Totally. And if anything, this is only going to make more people who have said that prop bets should be illegal on college sports, you know, get rid of that.
01:17This is only going to keep that drumbeat going louder.
01:18The NCAA has removed all their eligibility. That is a rule for any athlete involved in any sort of sports betting investigation, but also, as we know, out of school as well.
01:27So you're not playing basketball anymore, but you're also not enrolled in your respective schools.
01:30Is that worth it? No, absolutely not.
