South Australia's toxic algal bloom is not going away anytime soon. That's the latest report card with testing showing the bloom remains steady at 34 sites along the coast but has increased at a similar number of areas. The persistence of the disaster has led to some calling for a pause on commercial fishing to save the future of fish stocks and the industry.

00:00Removing dead marine life from beaches isn't something these volunteers imagined they'd
00:07ever do.
00:08It is very different, normally we're deploying for fire and storm damage and flood.
00:15The newly funded ramp up of beach cleanups couldn't have come at a better time, with
00:20the latest Algal update showing the bloom isn't going away.
00:24The bloom is persisting, the greatest area of impact at the moment as this bloom moves
00:30dynamically through the gulfs is along the metropolitan coast.
00:34The government's doing a clean up of its own, after criticism over its roll out of recent
00:39health advice for asthma sufferers.
00:41That advice, to carry medication on foamy beaches, is now also under fire for its stark contrast
00:48to Asthma Australia's recommendation to avoid beaches altogether.
00:52I've had an email already from Asthma Australia and I'm looking forward to catching up with
00:57them.
00:58The opposition wants real time updates daily.
01:01People need confidence to be able to come to the beach and the only way they're going
01:03to get that confidence is good information.
01:05The government's promising a new testing framework.
01:08I would be expecting that would be out in a matter of a couple of weeks.
01:13Across St Vincent Golf in Ardrossen, harrowing stories of the bloom's impact continue at the
01:18Senate inquiry.
01:20The calamari is an absolute essential part of our catch.
01:23We can't get by without it.
01:24We haven't seen a calamari for ten weeks.
01:29It's like they never existed.
01:31The crabs, the squid, the garfish are all near non-existent levels.
01:37And strong calls for more research and financial support.
01:40I think the fishermen should probably stop fishing and probably change their role to more research
01:47data collection.
01:48We should have both gulfs sharp to manage and look after our fish stocks.
01:53An industry on its knees, exploring extreme options to find a solution to an unpredictable crisis.
02:00There are some areas that are in the same area.
02:04There are so many areas that are located in the United States.
02:05The crabs are using a standstill for the land of the sea.
02:07We've seen some of these examples together.
02:09So, I'm going to get off the boat.
02:10There are so many injuries of the seas that are in the highway.
02:13And Port際, if I call me the medical or whatever, there are so many injuries.
02:15And I don't stand up with that.
02:17There are so many injuries that we have.
02:18And I know that many injuries are impacted by the place.
