Appointing Peter Mandelson as the UK's Ambassador the US was a "serious misjudgement" by the prime minister, Nigel Farage has said. The Reform UK leader added Sir Keir Starmer "was reluctant to get rid of Mandelson" and has left himself "in a very vulnerable position with the rest of the parliamentary Labour party".

00:00Yes, oddly, I was with Lord Mandelson last Tuesday when I was in Washington.
00:03I mean, look, he's an enormously talented bloke, of that was no doubt.
00:07You know, I dealt with him when he was a European commissioner, 20 years ago.
00:11But to have appointed him to that role was a serious misjudgment from the Prime Minister.
00:17We don't yet know what the intelligence briefings would have said,
00:22but it looks, although, Morgan McSweeney, the Prime Minister's right-hand man,
00:26and the Prime Minister, ignored the warnings, carried on.
00:31He was then reluctant to get rid of Mandelson,
00:35and he's now left himself in a very vulnerable position with the rest of the parliamentary Labour Party.
00:40It is about the Prime Minister's judgment,
00:44but it's also about the role that Morgan McSweeney plays in this government.
