00:00:46a steady growth it was very difficult for me to make it it's literally been two months and probably
00:00:52like a day since my sister passed away well you did a beautiful job and you can consider this a
00:00:58tribute to her thank you this was the first look that came out it really set the tone and I've met
00:01:04a person that been through the things that I've been through and still being able to make a way
00:01:08for themselves oh hey girl you are on trend if not making your own trends Laurence you are always so
00:01:21exact and measured I want you to go back to that denim dress where you showed us a softer side of you
00:01:31revel in that freedom okay it's in you just show it I will to be here right now it feels like a great
00:01:39accomplishment this has been a long road I'm actually very much in awe it's damn near perfect thank you
00:01:47fashion has always been in my DNA since I was 16 so um I got pregnant when I was 16 and um I got a letter
00:02:00telling me that I was accepted to fashion school did you go to fashion school yeah the way that you're
00:02:06able to cut a garment is incredible as Alicia Keys would say that girl is on fire all right Brittany yes my
00:02:16feather queen yes we all really respect that you have carved out a lane for yourself in fashion you've
00:02:25earned this spot in the top three and we're all really excited to see what you give us thank you
00:02:31as a designer I have really learned that my aesthetic my craft and what I do best is enough this is
00:02:40unexpected coming from you and it's nice to see your range I'm seeing forward-thinking ideas from you
00:02:46this just looks cool if I'm true to myself and I can stand by my work and have that conviction then
00:02:53that is all that matters you guys can finally exhale thank you you made it you each have ten thousand
00:03:05dollars and eight days to make eight looks to be shown at the finale wow that's one look a day

00:06:04this is the very first type of like freedom to shop fabrics all around the garment district we have three and a half hours to shop Elaine really wants me to like lean into who I am so my strategy is to create a collection that embrace this active wear path but also progressing into active wear as like evening wear
00:06:33and use color tell a story of things that just get more and more intense no that's it on to the next I'm one of the most commercial designers in this competition to do active wear as high fashion is really risky but it doesn't mean that I can't give a very inspiring just absolute killer runway show

00:07:09but I am going to do some things that people don't really expect of me which is playing with colors colors nice greens purples red and try different types of fabrics to do like a mix so I have this color that color I have black
00:07:27I always listen to Madame Nina so I'm really playing with the masculine and feminine the heart the soft basically my collection is a marriage of the two thank you so much

00:23:42she's a city girl very independent you know she does her own thing
00:23:45well you're ahead of a lot of designers because you already know exactly who your customer is

00:24:25we'd look to help speak to people who know the business of fashion
00:24:31speak to manufacturers who know how to make the kind of clothes that you want for your collection

00:25:04we're an organization of more than 450 members
00:25:06we have a lot of resources to help a young designer like you

00:25:18my brand is edgy and classy
00:25:22super feminine and masculine mixed together and I do leather so that's what I'm known for

00:25:34how are you looking to expand your collection

00:25:42that's a very smart thing because when you think about a woman
00:25:45she might really love leather but there's other parts of her life when she doesn't want to wear leather
00:25:49and then she would be the go-to designer because she already likes your aesthetic and what you stand for
00:25:54and if you communicate that very clearly who you are and what you stand for
00:25:57you could have that customer for life

00:51:11I wanted to show the progression of introducing color and introducing prints and then combining colors that you wouldn't think that you would ever, you know, put together.
00:51:20Yes, it was eight looks, but it was 21 pieces.
00:51:22All interchangeable.
00:51:23Everything could have been swapped.
00:51:24This top with this skirt, with this jacket, with this bottom.
00:51:27It's really fun to make.
00:51:28You stood out, but you stood out in a good way.
00:51:32You found a way to put an evening gown in the context of your activewear world that you're building.
00:51:39It's magical what you've been able to do to elevate the activewear slash athleisure space.
00:51:47The culotte, the bra.
00:51:49Like, I see it already.
00:51:50It's stunning.
00:51:51Wow.
00:51:53What an honor.
00:51:54I think the really interesting parts of your collection were the pieces where you took the inspiration of activewear,
00:52:01but did it in a more high fashion kind of luxury technique way.
00:52:05It kind of took it to a whole new place.
00:52:07My only criticism is off of the runway, it could go a little costume.
00:52:14Your styling was phenomenal.
00:52:17You gave every girl that ponytail, the hoops, and the same boots.
00:52:23So everything felt very cohesive.

00:52:30And turning this pattern into a 3D perspective made me think, wow, you could do things on a bigger scale.

00:52:53The not so good side when it gets a little rocky.
00:52:56And then when you overpower the darkness and the things that kind of like build you to be the stronger version of yourself.
00:53:02The first opening look showcased the innocence.
00:53:05Innocence?
00:53:06Kind of like in an innocence, my version of innocence.
00:53:08She's a vixen.
00:53:09She loves it.
00:53:10And the red represent rage and the black just represent darkness.
00:53:15This dress actually represents anxiety that you overpower to kind of like turn it into something positive.
00:53:21I really love that this is called the anxiety gown because it doesn't feel like the anxiety is oppressive.
00:53:32It feels like you're moving through it.
00:53:36You got to that place where evening wear can become art.
00:53:40So you did something very special and very moving for me today.
00:53:44Vishmi, it was cohesive.
00:53:47It was inspiring.
00:53:48It was sophisticated.
00:53:50And most importantly, it was well edited.
00:53:53The juxtaposition of that kind of urban influence with the elegance of your work was genius.

00:55:46You exude an elegance and a sophistication and I can see evolution in your work but it's still signature.
00:55:56The one look that I kind of had trouble with, the purple thing.

00:56:02That wasn't the direction I was going with the suit but I had to change the shape and it was supposed to be something else.

00:56:20You were able to incorporate this joy, this fluidity, this poetry, this romance that we haven't associated with your work before and you turned up the volume.
00:56:33In the history of Project Runway, I think you make clothes that look more expensive than anything this show has ever seen.
00:56:40Okay, designers, this is going to be an extremely painful, difficult decision to make tonight.

00:57:25They just are so incredibly different.
00:57:26For instance, with Britney, she's in a class of her own because she's designing for activewear.
00:57:31And so it's challenging to even have Britney in the same sentence as Laurence or Bishmi.
00:57:36With Britney, she got eight out of eight.
00:57:39You gave Britney an eight out of eight?
00:57:41I was impressed with all of it.
00:57:44Honestly, I believe that she is capable of much more than just activewear.
00:57:49For sure.
00:57:50But also, there's nothing wrong with just having that niche.
00:57:52Absolutely.
00:57:53Repetition is reputation.
00:57:55That's really good.
00:57:56Yeah, I like that.
00:57:57That pant that she did, she took the fabric and she turned it into that 3D.

00:58:23So who has that longevity or who is looking forward to fashion?
00:58:28Bishmi, for me, had the singular piece of the evening inside of that anxiety gown.
00:58:34He gave us a really well-edited, a really thoughtful show that made you think the art on the finale
00:58:41piece, the tricks that work on the runway, the big tool train, and the wow factor of that volume.
00:58:48But he added pieces of him and his heart in every single piece.
00:58:52It was like a crescendo, right?
00:58:54Yes.
00:58:55For eight pieces, I thought that was very well done.
00:58:58He created consistency through asymmetry, from the hoodie dress to the top and skirt dress.
00:59:04The consistency's there, but they're done differently.
00:59:06Yeah.
00:59:07But it kind of follows through, and then it goes into a print, which was really strong, into the fringe dress.
00:59:13Not my favorite, but that idea worked.
00:59:15I didn't feel like it would fit properly.

00:59:18It wasn't, but he has these elements that could, like, rock the red carpet.

00:59:25Everything had, like, a streetwear, street-style influence, but ultimately, the thing that caught
