00:00Wow, this is a big deal. This is a big deal, Matt Reeves on Emmy Sunday. First of all, how are you feeling?
00:06I'm incredibly excited. I mean, I'm so incredibly excited about the work that our cast and the writers and that everybody did,
00:12and to be here tonight is kind of a dream, so I'm super excited.
00:15And also, I mean, first of all, to see so many people get recognized and so many nominations,
00:21I don't want to ask you to pick a favorite. Was there one that really jumped out to you, really meaningful?
00:26Because, of course, Colin, transformative. Kristen, transformative. You know, a tour de force performance.
00:32But was there somebody sort of below the line that just really meant a lot to you for their hard work?
00:36Well, you know, I mean, honestly, as you said, we were so gratified that our incredible cast,
00:41that everybody involved, you know, that got nominations between 24 is kind of insane.
00:45But I have to say, for me personally, just because of my relationship with Michael and Mick,
00:49you know, Mick is a very young composer, and he worked so hard on the show, and he won last weekend,
00:54and it was super exciting. So that just, on a very personal level, meant a lot to me.
00:59And so, first of all, who was the last person you texted?
01:04I know you probably received a lot of love, texts, DMs, emails from people who just said they loved what you guys have accomplished.
01:10Who was the last person you reached out to to say, man, I'm such a fan, or I loved that show?
01:15Oh, gosh. You know, I would say, recently, I was, because we're starting to gear up,
01:21and we're talking about different crew people for the movie and everything,
01:24and I was talking to some of the people at Plan B, and I just was telling them how blown away I was by adolescence,
01:30which I just think that show really got to me. I was really affected. Yeah.
01:33Everyone from that show is pretty amazing.
01:37Wait, now tell me, so since you brought it up, listen, you're a pro.
01:39I know you've been asked this 10 ways to Sunday about where you're at, but you finished the scripts.
01:46Sort of, what's next?
01:48We're beginning. We're staffing up. We're starting to get our crew back together.
01:52We're getting ready. We're basically entering prep.
01:54We'll be making the movie in the spring, so super excited.
01:57It's been like a journey that has taken longer than I would have wanted to do for a lot of reasons,
02:02a lot of personal reasons, but most important reason is getting it to a place where I just felt like it was the best script we could possibly write,
02:08and I'm super excited about what Matt and I did, and Dylan and I getting back together and doing something that we're super excited about.
02:14I started sharing it with the cast. I gave the script to Rob, and he was super excited,
02:18and so it's that crazy feeling because there's been this period of time where, like, okay, I've been working really, really hard and kind of quiet with Matt and now suddenly it's like,
02:28okay, now this is what we're doing, and to see the response so far has been super exciting
02:31because we're really passionate about it.
02:32How do you do that? Do you give Rob, like, I mean, you've got to keep tabs on the script.
02:37No one can get it out, so how do you do that?
02:39We keep it. We put it in a, so Benito, who's my assistant, he puts it, he goes and seeks out a very, very high security pouch
02:46that has a code on it that then we have to send separately, and it's inside of a locked, it's absurd,
02:52but we have a very, very high security pouch that we got to Rob, and then he was like, I can't open it.
02:58I said, I know, here's the code, and then he opens it, and then we had a FaceTime after he read it.
03:02It was very exciting. Yeah, yeah.
03:04Yeah, I don't think it's absurd at all because I think that the fever around, I mean, anything in the DC,
03:08anything in the universe is so high, and you've got to protect it because people would just go,
03:13Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I would be very, I mean, obviously, because of what the first movie was and what this movie is,
03:19which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important
03:24because it's a mystery. I mean, it's all part of that, so that would be an extra level of heartbreak
03:28if that part of it started getting out, but yeah, it's, you know, these kind of movies always,
03:33you kind of want to keep the surprise so that, you know, the fans of the genre and of these movies
03:38can have the fun experience that I always love going to the movies, which was to go and be surprised.
03:42And because you just said it was a lot of personal stuff, it was also just a longer than you anticipated,
03:48does that make it, when you hand it over to Rob, I mean, listen, you're brilliant,
03:53so I don't imagine you need other people's validation to feel good, but were you more nervous about giving it to Rob
04:01at this because so many years had passed?
04:03Well, the years for sure, but also, he's Batman, so if he doesn't like it, not good.
04:09So, I was super excited because I thought that he really would because it's a very,
04:14the things that it does for his character, for Batman and for Bruce, I think has never been done before
04:20in this way, and I had a feeling that he would respond in this way, but he, the fact that he did
04:25was incredibly encouraging, and of course, I'm nervous every time anyone reads it because
04:28we put all this passion into it, but you want, you hope people connect to what you're trying to do.
