Most of the Southeast is staying dry as mid-September arrives, but parts of Virginia and North Carolina could experience multiple inches of rain in just a couple of days.
Transcript
00:00The waves are pretty large. They're crashing in as that coastal storm is directing more onshore flow.
00:05So things are ramping up here for the Delmarva Peninsula.
00:08Yes, they are. That's a sign of what's to come with this coastal storm.
00:11It's what I mentioned has a low chance of homegrown development.
00:14But either way, we're getting an influx of rain and thunderstorms.
00:17We need some of this rain. It's been dry in the northeast.
00:19Eastern North Carolina has also been running dry.
00:21So there are some benefits to all this. It's not all bad news.
00:25We're going to see the footprint move a little further to the north Wednesday.
00:27So bring some rain to New Jersey, though not as much into North Jersey, where we have the worst of the drought conditions.
00:33This isn't the only impact, though.
00:35We're talking about some higher rain totals near the coast that could lead to some flooding and then those coastal hazards.
00:40It's going to take some time for this to move that Wednesday.
00:42Map is still 36 to 48 hours from now.
00:45So it's more about the prolonged nature of the rain that's going to add up to these totals that look pretty impressive.
00:50Yeah, especially active weather local storm acts 12 inches of rain.
00:53Just no flash flooding certainly possible.
00:54And then coastal flooding is a whole separate issue with this storm.
00:58All right. More of the southeast is looking good.
00:59The Florida rain has been suppressed just to far southern parts of Florida.
01:03So here we are, Jackson, Mississippi.
01:05Pretty nice time and progress here from the Mississippi DOT traffic camps.
01:09And we're going to continue with some great weather in many areas where there's nothing really notable to report.
01:14Just warm, generally dry, partly sunny weather for a lot of us.
01:17We'll have a better chance for thunderstorms in the south and central Florida come Wednesday.
01:20Yeah, no shading on the map is a good thing.
01:22Wednesday, though, we see that warmer air move farther to the east.
01:26So a quick jump back to summer when some of you, like North Carolina, already have the pumpkins out.
01:32Yeah, and even Thursday, there may be some leftover showers in the Virginia Beach.
01:34There could be four days of rain there.
