00:15The demonstrators also denounced the establishment of open mines near water sources and strategic areas
00:20due to their negative impact on the economy and lives of residents, especially its vulnerable population.
00:26The protesters also described Novoa's policies as generating hunger, destitution, exploitation and slavery.
00:34The workers' leaders reaffirmed that they would remain in permanent mobilization against the government's policies.
00:47In this context, Ecuadorian President Daniel Novoa issued Tuesday a new state of emergency
00:53in at least seven provinces of the country amid protest over the elimination of the diesel subsidy.
01:00The measure will be enforced for 60 days and applies to the provinces of Carchi, Imbabura and Santo Domingo.
01:07The presidential decree suspends the right to freedom of public assembly during 24 hours a day,
01:14although it does not restrict demonstrations.
01:17The norm also authorizes the armed forces and the national police to intervene in meetings
01:22where threats to security are identified.
