Celebrating the Ambulance NSW workers of the Central West

The Daily Liberal's Ciara Bastow reflects on the stories she shared of the ordinary Aussies doing extraordinary things with Ambulance NSW.

00:00When I heard it was Ambulance NSW Appreciation Day on September 19th,

00:05I decided that I wanted to do something to highlight the incredible work our crews do

00:09in western NSW. From Glen Flanagan, the station manager at Wellington, who was an ambulance

00:15mechanic for 10 years before deciding to hang up the tools and become a paramedic,

00:20he says it's the best career change he's ever made. There's Jodie Klein, who worked at the

00:25Department of Education for 21 years before deciding she needed a change and becoming a paramedic.

00:33I also spoke to Jude Butcher, who coordinates 71% of emergency response across NSW and she does it

00:41from our backyard in Dubbo. There's young Lewis Urquhart, who takes around 50 to 70 emergency

00:47calls in any one shift from anywhere in NSW. I also spoke to Nicole Stone,

00:54who didn't know what she wanted to do at first until someone guided her and said paramedics might

01:00be for you. Now she works in her backyard of Coonamble, helping her friends, neighbours and community members.
