Alas Pilipinas fails to make the knockout phase of the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship, but coach Angiolino Frigoni beams with pride as the Filipinos prove it can hold its own against the best in the world. The Philippines' gallant stand reached its peaked against Iran when the home team just could not clinch the win even after holding six match points in their final Pool A game at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sept. 18, 2025. Alas even had a premature celebration for a round of 16 entry when Kim Malabunga scored on a block kill that would have sealed the victory for the Philippines. A video challenge by Iran, however, showed that Malabunga committed a net touch violation and the point was overturned, paving the way for the Iranians to steal the match, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 20-22.
