00:00North Korean leader Kim Jong-un says he is open to talks with the United States,
00:05but only if Washington stops demanding that his country give up its nuclear weapons.
00:12He made clear that Pyongyang will never relinquish its nuclear arsenal in exchange for sanctions relief.
00:21Speaking at the Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang,
00:24Kim recalled his past meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump,
00:28whom he met three times during Trump's first term, and described those encounters positively.
00:34Kim's comments came after both Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung expressed willingness to meet him,
00:41following a White House meeting last month.
00:44The North Korean leader stressed that nuclear weapons are vital for his country's survival,
00:49citing U.S.-South Korean joint military drills, which he described as preparations for nuclear war.
00:55North Korea has been under United Nations sanctions since its first nuclear test in 2006.
01:01Despite these restrictions, it has continued to advance its nuclear and missile programs.
