00:13jordan perell's monkey pew production this movie has been on my radar for a month
00:18and i was so excited to finally see it but as soon as the credits rolled i knew i had a lot
00:25to unpack was this a deep gendry bending masterpiece or a stylish confusing mess well i have got the
00:34answer for you stick around because we are going to break down this intense film discusses its
00:42major themes and most importantly explain that mind-bending ending let's start with the setup
00:50the film follows cameron care played by the talented quarry withers a highly taught college
00:58quarterback his career is on the brink after a mysterious head injury enter his idol the
01:05legendary quarterback isa white played by marron wines in a career-defining performance wine is
01:13absolutely magical hair unsettling charismatic and terrifying all at once visa invites come to his
01:20remote desert compound for a week of training promising to get him back in the game and on the
01:26path to becoming the goal the greatest of the all time the first two acts of brilliant director justin
01:34tripping and cinematography keira kelly create a world that is visually stunning and deeply unsettling
01:42the film is pure style with byron's color disorienting shorts and a palpable sense of direct
01:49you can feel the tension build as camps training with isha becomes less about football drilling and more
01:56about a psychological and physical gunplay the atmosphere is top-notch and keeps you on the
02:03edge of your seat but here's where the movie fables the ball while the style and performances are fantastic
02:12the screenplay struggles to land his ambitious ideas the film is trying to be a lot of things at once
02:20a critic of sports culture an exploration of hero worship and a supernatural horror story it sets up
02:29this intriguing mysterious but by the time the third act hits it tries to explain everything away in a very
02:38confusing and rushed manner it's as if the first two acts were written by several of thousands and
02:44film makers and the third act was handed of someone who just wanted what things up quickly instead of
02:52letting the audience connect the dots the movie gives us an overly complex explanation that ultimately
02:59kills an arm and a bit of a letdown you spend so much time pitching things together only for the movie
03:07to throw a bounce convoluted floor at you right at the end it's a classic case of telling not showing
03:14now let's get into good stuff the ending if you find yourself scratching your head you're not alone
03:22here's what goes down and what it all means ken learns that his training was never about football
03:30it was a ritual for generations the owners of the san antonio seviers have been passing down a dominic
03:38legacy a ritualistic cycle of creating a god they achieve this through blood rituals and supernatural
03:46manipulation they are not just rich businessmen they are a sinister cable feeding of the dreams and
03:53sacrifices of young athletes like camp the flame reveals that cam's head injury was not accident the
04:01owners orchestrated it to isolate him and force him into the ritual they even made a deal with his
04:08late father to ensure cam would become the next him after a brutal confrontation cam kills isha but this
04:18is on the end he emerges on the end he emerges onto the field where the owners his agent and isha's wife
04:26are all waiting for him they are not grieving they are celebrating they offer him a contract ready to
04:33coronate him as the new him the new savior of their team but here's the powerful moment cam refuses
04:42he sees them for the monsters there are for turning his beloved sports into a bloody demonic sacrifice
04:51instead of becoming another commodity he takes a stand he brutally murders the entire cable of owners
04:58his agent and everyone else who was part of this twist ritual this is his ultimate act of defense
05:06choosing to be his own man rather than the next product in the earth system the very end of the
05:12film suggests that you cannot just walk away from the kind of deal the unseen supernatural forces that
05:19fuel this legacy drug his agency's body away implying that the ritual still needs a sacrifice it leaves us
05:28with the chilling thought that even though cam escaped this evil cycling isn't over so should you see him
05:37yes i think so while the narrative is flawed and the ending feels messy the film is visual stunning and the
05:45performances especially maroon wines are phenomenal it's an interesting albeit module film that has a lot to
05:53say about the dark side of professional sports the pressure to be great and the exploration of young athletes it may not be the
06:02masterpiece we hope for but it's a hell of a conversation starter let me know in the comments below what
06:10you thought of flame and its ending and if you have any theories about these unseen forces i would love to
06:18hear them best of luck see you next time bye bye
