00:00It's really interesting, Russell Wilson, because it's an unceremonious ending to what was at least a borderline Hall of Fame career.
00:10And I was crunching some of the numbers during that very fast two-minute break right there.
00:14And the two years in Denver certainly don't help his case at all.
00:18No.
00:19It hurts his case, right?
00:20Going to Pittsburgh does not help his case, hurts his case.
00:25And now the three games he's played for the New York Giants certainly don't help his case.
00:30It hurts his case.
00:32So you're taking a career in which he's top 15 in touchdown passes.
00:36He's top 15 in yards, just has just under 50,000 yards, way away from top five.
00:43But still, you're top 15.
00:45And you have two Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl win.
00:48So you've got the one ring, right?
00:50An all-pro.
00:51Yeah, an all-pro doesn't mean as much to me.
00:53I respect it.
00:54Yeah.
00:54That doesn't mean as much to me.
00:57So when you talk about Hall of Fame, there's a couple things you ask of right away.
01:02First off, when your career ended, where were your stats in comparison to other people that played your position?
01:07It's not fair to go look at what guys did after you.
01:10You should be judged against people that played before you and with you, okay?
01:13Yep.
01:14So statistically, it's going to be hard to argue against him getting into the Hall of Fame.
01:19You're top 15 in the history of the league in yards and in touchdowns, and you do have the Super Bowl ring, which I think is key here, and probably one day gets him in.
01:31Now, Eli Manning was not a first-bound Hall of Famer.
01:35Eli Manning does not have the yards, doesn't have the touchdowns, does not have the wins.
01:40He has the yards, he doesn't have the other things.
01:42Excuse me.
01:42He has the yards, not the touchdowns.
01:43Not the touchdowns.
01:44And the only two years that Eli Manning ever won a playoff game were the two Super Bowl years.
01:50Right.
01:50But Eli Manning does have two Super Bowl wins and two Super Bowl MVPs, meaning he's a lock for the Hall of Fame.
01:58But the committee decided last year that that regular season stuff's got to count for something, so we're not going to make you a first-bound Hall of Famer.
02:07You'll probably get in this year.
02:08That's my gut on it, right?
02:09And they released the whole board.
02:12It's like 160 guys.
02:13He's on the list, obviously, for this year.
02:15He'll get it.
02:15And they pare it down.
02:15Russell Wilson's going to be on that list five years from now in every single year.
02:20But the question I have is, how much do we value the final four years of his career?
02:28The two years in Denver, where they caught him and they eat an $80 million cap hit just to get him out of the building.
02:34Yep.
02:35All right.
02:35The year in Pittsburgh, made the playoffs.
02:39Not great, but made the playoffs.
02:41And then the 0-3 start in New York.
02:43Do you think those four, three and a half years of football negatively impact whether or not Russell Wilson gets into the Hall of Fame?
02:54No, because the voting isn't now.
02:57Okay.
02:57Once you let it marinate for a while, we all end up remembering people at their best.
03:03Sure.
03:03That's fair.
03:03And I think that's why, if it was now, absolutely.
03:07But five years from now, assuming this is the end, people will remember him with the COs.
03:12Yeah, right.
03:12And it'll all be fine.
03:13I do think his personality plays a role here, too.
03:17Yeah.
03:17He's aloof.
03:18He's a different dude.
03:19Yeah.
03:20He's not beloved by the media.
03:22He's a little out there in his own world and all that stuff.
03:26I think he's a Hall of Famer.
03:28And I say that, he's a rare guy, because normally I feel really strong.
03:33You're either in or you're out.
03:34Right.
03:35And I've always had this belief where the Hall of Fame has too many people in it.
03:40It's been completely watered down in every sport.
03:43But if it's a sport based on statistics, and you've got the stats compared to all of your peers,
03:50then I think he's a Hall of Famer.
