00:00End of the day, this will probably get done.
00:01President Trump wouldn't sign an executive order unless he thought he was pretty confident
00:04of getting across the finish line.
00:06But the fact remains, we're not there yet.
00:08Yeah, that's so true and such a good insight right there, Glenn.
00:11I want to show our viewers just a little bit of President Trump speaking from the Oval
00:16Office today on that, and then we'll get some more reaction.
00:19Preserve TikTok is a platform for the 170 million Americans who use it while ensuring
00:24that their data is properly protected as required by law.
00:27With this executive order, you will be effectively bringing into effect the agreement that will
00:33save TikTok and ensure that it can operate safely and securely.
00:37So this is interesting because this is going to be American-operated all the way, and great
00:46respect for President Xi, and I very much appreciate that he approved the deal because to get it
00:52done properly, we really needed the support of China and the approval of China.
00:56Yes, ma'am.
00:57We don't want this used as a propaganda tool by any foreign government.
01:00We want to make sure that our people and our investors actually make these decisions based
01:05on what's good for their business as opposed to what's good for another government's propaganda
01:09arm.
01:10So that's what we've done with this deal.
01:12I think it's very good for the American people.
01:13And as the president said, young people love this.
01:16We actually want everybody to access this, whether they're MAGA or not.
01:20We just want it to be fair.
01:21We want it to be fair to everybody, and we think that's what's going to happen with this
01:24new arrangement.
01:25Glenn, I want to ask you, when is the last time or has there ever been a time where a
01:34foreign company comes in, you know, we have here in the U.S., and we say, you know what,
01:41if you want to continue that, that's great, but we need to have a lot of U.S. interest in
01:46here.
01:46We want businesses to have equity.
01:50Has that ever happened before?
01:53Sure.
01:53There's lots of precedent for making sure that foreign investment in the United States is
01:59handled in a way that is consistent with our national security.
02:02So there's a whole process where a foreign party wants to come in and buy an industry that
02:08is in a sensitive area.
02:10It has to go through something called the CFIUS process, the Committee on Foreign Investment
02:14in the U.S., which approves the foreign investment if it's in a sensitive area.
02:18One good example of where a ban might make sense, and I think did make sense, is in the
02:23case of Huawei telecom equipment.
02:25Huawei is a Chinese telecom manufacturer, ultimately controlled by the PRC government of the Chinese
02:33Communist Party.
02:35The several administrations, both Republican and Democrat, were concerned that having
02:39Huawei equipment inside American telecom systems was a national security risk because China
02:45could siphon away that information, and when I was at the National Security Agency, I certainly
02:49saw China's capabilities in that regard.
02:51And at the end of the day, the FCC said, sorry, you're going to have to rip out Huawei
02:56equipment.
02:57A statute was passed to that effect, and that equipment is effectively banned in the United
03:02States.
03:03So we have precedent for doing that, not for a social media app.
03:06That would be the first time if that actually ever happened.
03:10But the broader question, which we don't have time to talk about, but just to raise very quickly,
03:16is we're in love with Chinese technology.
03:19It's cheap.
03:19It's effective.
03:20It's efficient.
03:20All the garage door openers, or most of them are probably made by Chinese companies, video
03:25cameras, doorbells, you name it.
03:27We love that Internet of Things technology, but it does raise surveillance risks.
03:32It does raise data use risks.
03:34And we haven't really, as a society, come to grips with that.
03:37Yeah, yeah.
03:37That's a great way to end it there.
03:40And Glenn, we really appreciate you joining us.
03:42I'm live now from Fox.
03:43It's very still early in the process right now, but we appreciate you coming on and giving
03:49us your insight.
03:51Take care.
03:52All right, everyone.
03:53We will take a two-minute break here on live now from Fox.
03:55So we'll come back and bring you some more of President Trump's remarks from inside the
04:00Oval from earlier today.
04:01President Trump signing the executive order for TikTok and other big remarks that he made.
04:15Thank you very much.
04:16We've had some very, really good talks today on Gaza with both the Middle East representatives
04:23and kings and all of the top leaders in the Middle East.
04:27And we had also a very good conversation with Bibi Netanyahu trying to get the hostages back.
04:33And we're trying to get the end of the Gaza situation.
04:38It's really bad, very bad.
04:40And we think it could happen.
04:42Maybe it could happen pretty soon.
04:43We want the hostages back.
04:46We want the bodies back.
04:48And we want to have peace in that region.
04:51So we had some very good talks.
04:53As you know, I had President Erdogan here of Turkey.
04:58And we had a great meeting today.
05:00I think we had a meeting that was very conclusive in so many different things, things that we
05:05wanted, things that he wanted.
05:06And that was good.
05:08We'll be announcing that sometime later.
05:10And he'll be making an announcement, too.
05:12But we had a great meeting with Turkey and their very respected president and spent time.
05:18We had lunch.
05:19And we had a lot of good discussions.
05:21So those two things.
05:22And we have some executive orders today to sign that are very important for the country.
05:30And we'll start off with one that's a proclamation.
05:33Yes, sir.
05:33You want to do that well?
05:35Yes, sir.
05:35So today is Gold Star Mothers and Families Day.
05:39This is an annual proclamation.
05:41This is to commemorate the fallen, those who have died for all of our freedoms and for
05:46our country, and for their families who have suffered such grievous losses.
05:50But this is a proclamation commemorating Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star families.
05:55Yeah.
05:56And they're great people.
05:58Incredible people, what they've had to go through.
06:01Very few people could have gone through this kind of thing.
06:04Gold Star.
06:05You've charged a team from your administration, led by Vice President Vance, with ensuring
06:20that we can preserve TikTok as a platform for the 170 million Americans who use it, while
06:25ensuring that their data is properly protected as required by law.
06:29With this executive order, you will be effectively bringing into effect the agreement that will
06:35save TikTok and ensure that it can operate safely and securely.
06:39So this is interesting because I had a very good talk with President Xi.
06:44A lot of respect for him.
06:46Hopefully, he has a lot of respect for me, too.
06:49And we talked about TikTok and other things, but we talked about TikTok, and he gave us the
06:54go-ahead.
06:55You know, it's run by American investors and American companies.
06:59Great ones, great investors, the biggest.
07:02You don't get bigger, I don't imagine.
07:04And maybe I'll have to JD.
07:06JD was very much involved and in charge of it.
07:09And maybe I'll have you say a few words about the deal.
07:12He would report back.
07:14And the points of the deal, I think, are great for our country.
07:18So, JD, do you want to give it a little talk, please?
07:20Yes, sir.
07:21Yeah.
07:21So thank you, sir, for your leadership and for your help.
07:23We really couldn't have done this without the President actually ushering this deal over
07:27the finish line.
07:28There was some resistance on the Chinese side.
07:31But the fundamental thing that we wanted to accomplish is that we wanted to keep TikTok
07:34operating.
07:35But we also wanted to make sure that we protected Americans' data privacy as required by law,
07:39both because it's the right thing to do, but also because it's a legal requirement of the
07:43law that was passed last year by Congress.
07:45So we think that we were able to do that.
07:47Of course, we're going to keep on working at it.
07:48But this deal really does mean that Americans can use TikTok, but actually use it with more
07:53confidence than they had in the past because their data is going to be secure and it's
07:57not going to be used as a propaganda weapon against our fellow citizens.
08:01We're very excited about it.
08:02We appreciate the cooperation of everybody involved.
08:05And it's a big day.
08:06And I think I can say that especially the young people, they really wanted this to happen.
08:12They did not want to have TikTok close.
08:14And I got, you know, a little used to TikTok.
08:18I used it myself during the campaign and it was very successful because you know how I did
08:21with the young voter.
08:22And Charlie helped me a lot too.
08:25And he said to me, you should go on TikTok.
08:29And it actually, because we got record votes with the young voters, you know, for the election.
08:35So I was a little bit prejudiced in that way toward TikTok.
08:38It was very good and very meaningful.
08:41But we have American investors taking it over, running it, highly sophisticated, including
08:48Larry Ellison.
08:49And Oracle, I guess, is going to play a very big role in terms of security, safety, and
08:55everything else.
08:56So we have very good controls.
08:58And literally, I would get a call from friends of mine who are fathers of young people saying,
09:04could you do me a favor?
09:05Could you get an approved place?
09:06My son is driving me crazy.
09:09So we're getting it done.
09:10And they have a big audience.
09:11And we have great American investors.
09:14And here's your final copy.
09:16TikTok.
09:20Now, maybe if you want, we could take a couple of questions on TikTok.
09:23And then we're going to get on to something completely different.
09:26Okay?
09:27Yeah.
09:27Mr. President, Mr. Vice President, you mentioned that China was resistant.
09:31Can you describe where China is now?
09:33Are they fully on board with this?
09:34They're on board.
09:35I spoke with President Xi.
09:37We had a good talk.
09:38I told him what we were doing.
09:39And he said, go ahead with it.
09:42On the algorithm, it's still being released coming from China.
09:46Are you satisfied that there's no security concerns?
09:49Yeah, I really am.
09:50It would push disruptive.
09:51The biggest reason is that it's owned by Americans and very sophisticated.
