Migrants prepare to cross Channel to Britain despite deadly risks

Migrants wait in a camp near the northern French town of Gravelines for an opportunity to cross the English Channel despite deadly risks. 'If you stay here, you're dead, and if you go to England, you die,' says Saad Hamid, a 30-year-old Palestinian from Iraq, who has made two unsuccessful attempts to reach Britain. Two women died overnight while trying to cross the Channel to Britain, French authorities said on Sept. 28, 2025, adding that some 60 others had been rescued.
