What's up guys, my name is Ryan and I've spent the last few summers exploring the wonderful
00:05
country of Italy and I want to show you my favorite places so here is my Italy top 10.
00:18
Italy has to be one of my all time favorite countries.
00:21
It's home to some of the world's most fascinating history, stunning towns, and pure Mediterranean
00:26
vibes from the jagged peaks of the Dolomites to the jaw dropping coast of Sardinia, Italy
00:31
has it all.
00:32
Let's start this video off at the incredible Amalfi Coast.
00:35
I have to say this is one of the most beautiful places not just in Italy but all of Europe.
00:41
The Amalfi Coast is located in southern Italy about a 3 hours drive from Rome.
00:45
It's just hard to believe this place exists.
00:47
Now one of the most well known towns on the Amalfi Coast is Positano.
00:51
When you see this place in real life you won't believe it.
00:54
It's hard to beat the backdrop of the mountains filled with colorful villas against the Mediterranean
00:58
sea filled with boats and yachts.
01:00
If you can handle the skinny roads I definitely recommend just driving along the whole entire
01:05
coastline and seeing all the beautiful towns.
01:07
One notable place on the coast is the city of Atrani.
01:10
It's one of the best preserved medieval towns on the Amalfi Coast.
01:13
If you want a more adventurous activity you can take a hike on the path of the gods.
01:18
Special thanks to my friend Logan Armstrong for helping me out with footage.
01:22
He has an awesome vlog of the Amalfi Coast that I'll link in the description below.
01:27
Anyways the path of the gods is a 6-kilometer trail that takes you above the cliffs of the
01:31
coast.
01:32
You will get some of the most jaw-dropping views, I mean just unreal.
01:35
Now the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is around May or early fall.
01:38
You'll be able to miss the summer crowds while still enjoying the warm Mediterranean weather.
01:44
Now just off the coast there's an incredible island called Capri.
01:47
Now to get to Capri you can take a 45 minute ferry from Naples for around 20 euros.
01:51
Now one of my favorite features of the island is the Faraglione.
01:55
It's an impressive sea stack that juts out of the island.
01:58
There's this little archway.
01:59
If you're sandy you can drive a boat through.
02:01
When you do go to Capri I definitely recommend renting a boat.
02:05
That'll be the best way you can see the entire island and find all its hidden grottos and
02:09
just jaw-dropping coastline.
02:10
Now after Capri and the Amalfi Coast we're going to head up to Northern Italy to visit
02:14
the Dolomites.
02:15
I spent several weeks exploring the Dolomites and I consider it to be some of the greatest
02:20
days of my life.
02:21
One of my favorite places in the Dolomites is Ciceta.
02:24
The green grass slopes contrasted with the jagged mountain ridge makes for one of the most
02:29
unbelievable landscape combos in the world.
02:31
Now to get to Ciceta I took two gondolas up the mountain and made it to the top.
02:35
When I got there the clouds covered half the mountain making it from one of the best views
02:39
I've ever gotten and places like this just really spark your imagination and make you
02:44
feel like a kid again.
02:45
I hope everyone can witness the power of Ciceta at least once in a life.
02:49
Now another magical place nearby is Alpe de Susi.
02:53
It's home to the largest high alpine meadow in Europe.
02:55
The backdrop of the Sassolungo mountain with the farm huts creates a scene straight out
03:00
of a dream.
03:01
Another must visit place in the Dolomites is Trechimi de Lavaredo.
03:05
Now I love this place so much.
03:06
I spent four days exploring the area I mean there's just so much to see here.
03:10
The Dolomites will have a special place in my heart and I hope you all can visit them
03:14
one day.
03:15
Now after hiking the Dolomites we're going to head over to Lake Como.
03:18
Now located at the base of the Alps Lake Como is a sight to see.
03:22
The lake is shaped like an upside down letter Y and it's known for its picturesque scenery
03:27
and luxury villas.
03:28
Lake Como has been named one of the world's most beautiful lakes and I totally understand why.
03:32
Now when you're there you can walk the streets of Bellagio or take a ferry to the other lakeside
03:37
villages.
03:38
Celebrities such as George Clooney have a village here.
03:40
I mean hey if I had the money I'd probably buy one too.
03:43
After Lake Como we're going to head to the coast to visit Cinque Terre.
03:47
Now Cinque Terre is made up of five seaside villages that date back to medieval times.
03:52
The small fishing villages have lined the coast for thousands of years.
03:55
During the middle ages the villages started to be attacked from pirates so fortifying walls
04:00
were built to protect them from any future raids.
04:03
Now the small town of Vernazza is one of my favorites.
04:06
It has the only natural port of Cinque Terre and remains one of the truest fishing villages
04:11
on the Italian Riviera and I just can't get over these colorful houses and the beauty of
04:15
these cities.
04:16
It's just hard to beat the charm of these Italian villages.
04:19
After Cinque Terre we're going to head to the second largest island in the mediterranean,
04:23
Sardinia.
04:24
With some of Europe's best coastline, pristine beaches, and the clearest water I've ever
04:28
seen, Sardinia is the place you gotta go.
04:31
Now one of the most impressive spots on Sardinia is the Boundé coast.
04:35
It's 40 kilometers of coastline that's made up of massive limestone cliffs and secluded
04:40
beaches.
04:41
Now special thanks to my friend The Dronebook for helping out with footage.
04:43
He has one of the best videos on Sardinia and I'll link it in the description below.
04:47
There's so many great places in it.
04:49
Now the Boundé coast isn't the easiest place to reach.
04:52
Most places require a hike or a boat ride so if you go I definitely recommend renting
04:57
a boat so you can see all the coasts.
04:59
Now one of my favorite places is Cala Gororice.
05:01
It has this insane rock formation coupled with crystal clear water.
05:05
I mean I would just do anything, be cruising on a boat there right now.
05:08
I mean it's just a freaking paradise there.
05:10
Now after Sardinia we're going to head back to the mainland to visit Italy's capital
05:14
of Rome.
05:15
Now Rome may be one of the most famous and iconic capitals in the world.
05:19
Its history spans over 28 centuries with its founding taking place in 753 BC.
05:26
Ancient Rome's architecture stands today and draws millions of tours each year.
05:30
One of the most well known structures of the capital is the Colosseum.
05:33
It's this oval shaped amphitheater that was completed in 80 AD.
05:37
It was the largest amphitheater built and could hold anywhere from 50 to 80,000 spectators.
05:42
You can just marvel its structure from the outside or take a guided tour to witness the
05:47
interior.
05:48
One of my favorite attractions is the Trevi Fountain.
05:50
It's a baroque styled fountain that was built in 1762.
05:53
I mean there's just so much to see in Rome.
05:55
I hope you can all visit it one day.
05:57
After Rome we're going to head south to visit the region of Puglia.
06:01
Now located on the boot hill of Italy, Puglia is a region famous for its whitewashed towns
06:06
and magnificent coastline.
06:07
One of my favorite places in Puglia is Pugliano Amare.
06:12
It's a stunning town right on the Adriatic coast.
06:14
What I love about it is how the city is built right on the sea cliffs.
06:17
I mean they're just on there so perfectly that it looks like they're going to fall off.
06:21
There's some restaurants built into the caves on the sea cliffs.
06:24
I mean it's just such a cool spot.
06:26
One of the most famous places in the city is Cala Porto.
06:29
It's probably the most recognized place in all of Puglia.
06:31
It's a stunning beach that's surrounded by cliffs coupled with crystal clear mediterranean
06:37
water.
06:38
I mean just pure paradise there.
06:39
Afterwards we're going to head to the island of Sicily.
06:41
Now Sicily is the largest island in the mediterranean.
06:44
It's just full of culture and fascinating history.
06:47
One of the most impressive places on the island is the valley of the temples.
06:51
Located in the town of Agrigento, it's one of the world's most stunning examples of
06:55
Greek architecture.
06:56
There were seven temples built here by the Greeks in the 5th century BC.
07:01
Unfortunately they were burnt down by the Carthaginians but rebuilt by the Romans 4 centuries later.
07:06
One of the most well preserved is the temple of Concordia.
07:09
It features the classic Greek pillars.
07:11
I mean it just makes you wonder what this must have looked like when it was first built.
07:15
While we're still in Sicily we're going to head over to the city of Catania.
07:19
What's crazy about Catania is that it lies at the base of the massive Mount Etna volcano
07:24
which is 3,326 meters tall.
07:27
It's one of the world's most active volcanoes.
07:29
I mean just wild to see the ash shooting out the top.
07:32
What a crazy yet beautiful city.
07:34
Afterwards we're going to head up north to the incredible region of Tuscany.
07:38
Now located in central Italy, Tuscany is known for its landscapes, history, and artistic legacy.
07:43
I mean I've been obsessed with Tuscany ever since I've seen the gladiator.
07:46
It's a land full of rolling golden hills dotted with countless little hilltop towns.
07:51
I mean it would just be so cool to retire here and live on a Tuscan farm.
07:55
One of my favorite cities in Tuscany is San Gimignano.
07:57
Now San Gimignano is a stunning medieval city perched upon a hill.
08:01
One of the most iconic features of the city is the medieval watchtowers.
08:05
Currently there are 14 watchtowers still standing but during its prime there were over 72 towers
08:10
with the highest being 230 feet tall.
08:13
The towers were built as a result of competing families who wanted to build the tallest and
08:17
most grand tower.
08:18
I can't imagine how it must have looked like back then.
08:21
I guess you could say it was the Manhattan of the middle ages.
08:24
San Gimignano's medieval vibe has been a touch throughout time and has become one of
08:28
the most popular medieval locations in all of Italy.
08:31
After San Gimignano we're going to head to the capital of Tuscany to visit the iconic
08:35
city of Florence.
08:36
I have to say that Florence is my favorite city in all of Italy and considered to be the
08:41
birthplace of the renaissance.
08:43
One of the most impressive buildings is the Florence cathedral.
08:46
When you look at it you just can't believe how big it is.
08:48
It was completed in 1436 and it just amazes me that they were able to engineer such a big
08:54
dome back then.
08:55
The Ponte Vecchio bridge is another historic site as it crosses the Arno river.
09:00
I mean I just can't say enough good things about Florence.
09:02
It's such an incredible city.
09:04
Well that is it for my Italy top 10 and there's just so many places in Italy.
09:08
I could do a top 100 list.
09:10
Hopefully I can spend some time there this summer so be expecting a part 2.
09:14
Let me know where your favorite place in Italy is in the comments below.
09:17
I also star a relaxation channel where I post hour long films with calming music to bring
09:22
some peace and nature in your life.
09:23
I just posted a relaxation film on Italy and it's one of my favorites.
09:27
You can find me on Tik Tok and Instagram at shirley.films.
09:31
It's Ryan and we will see you later.
09:33
I will see you later.
