West Yorkshire leaders have committed to a new, flagship economic approach following the approval of six “Cluster Action Plans” at the most recent meeting of the WYCA.

00:00West Yorkshire has just launched one of the UK's most ambitious growth plans,
00:06a multi-billion pound vision to supercharge the local economy
00:09and create tens of thousands of jobs in the process.
00:13At the heart of the plan are six newly approved cluster action plans,
00:17the first major step from strategy to delivery
00:20under the region's £7 billion local growth plan.
00:24Backed by the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracey Brabin,
00:26the initiative brings together public and private partners
00:30to build the infrastructure, investment and support
00:33that local businesses need to thrive,
00:35from access to finance and skills,
00:37to workspace, innovation and global markets.
00:41The sectors in the spotlight include advanced manufacturing,
00:44with the region already home to the north's largest manufacturing workforce,
00:48producing parts for global industries from aerospace to construction.
00:52Then there's financial and professional services,
00:55As England's second biggest financial district,
00:58major institutions like the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority
01:01are now anchored here.
01:04Health tech is another focus,
01:05with the region aiming to be a global leader in health innovation,
01:09boosted by Europe's largest teaching hospital
01:11and a £160 million investment programme.
01:15Digital and technology and the creative industries
01:17are two other main sectors alongside the green economy.
01:20Building on momentum from a recent trade mission to Nashville,
01:23Mayor Brabin will now champion these sectors globally,
01:27flying the flag for West Yorkshire as a region where opportunity lives.
