00:00This is kind of a crazy thing to say, but is Mbappe the best player ever with a professional brother?
00:04If I see Semenyo coming at me, I'm terrified.
00:06They're going to drop points, disappoint their people.
00:25Welcome to another episode of Five Aside on B in Sports.
00:28And we are heading into a very exciting international break.
00:32We are going into the last two matches of the CAF qualifiers in Africa.
00:36And there's a lot of very exciting storylines that we will be getting into.
00:40So I'm going to pose with y'all a few different true or false questions leading into this.
00:44Are y'all ready?
00:44Yes, sir.
00:45First up, we have Nigeria will turn it around and qualify directly for the World Cup.
00:50True or false?
00:52Absolutely false.
00:53Absolutely, absolutely false.
00:54Not even with the point reduction?
00:56No, because South Africa has easy game.
00:57And so South Africa should win their games, which allows Nigeria to go in second.
01:01But first is they don't deserve it.
01:03They didn't have a good enough qualifying run.
01:04They don't.
01:05And so I don't think the answer is false.
01:08Yeah, false for me.
01:09False for me.
01:09I think too little, too late.
01:11Got the three points closer.
01:12I don't think it's enough.
01:14False, but you see what happened last time with them in the international competition.
01:18They turned it around somehow.
01:19They did.
01:20Final of Apcon, it's true.
01:21For me, it's false.
01:23They're going to drop points, disappoint their people.
01:26All right.
01:26Moving on to the next one.
01:28Denis Bawanga of Gabon will finish as top scorer ahead of Mo Salah.
01:33True or false?
01:34He currently leads with one more goal than Mo.
01:35This is tough because I think Mo is in a place where he needs to turn around.
01:42So I'm going to say false because I think that Salah is going to be looking for goals
01:46because of what has been happening with his form back at Liverpool.
01:48Interesting.
01:49And it's going to be tough to defeat a Salah that's looking to write his form.
01:53I'm going with True.
01:54I think he's going to be the top scorer.
01:56He's top scorer right now in MLS.
01:57He's having the season of his life.
01:59He's the strike partner Aubameyang always wished he had.
02:02He finally has towards the end of his career.
02:03Shout out to him, too, having a great season at Marseille.
02:05But I'm going True with Denis.
02:07Oh, Denis, True, man.
02:08I'm going with Denis as well.
02:10He got Sonny playing with him, setting him up in the States.
02:14Yep.
02:14And then he got Aubameyang back home.
02:17You can't ask for more as a striker.
02:19And lastly, DR Congo will beat out Senegal and finish top of their group.
02:24True or false?
02:26I think false.
02:27I think while Congo has a very, very good squad and they brought in incredible players.
02:34And even seeing Wan-Bissaka switch over to Congo is really cool.
02:39Great to see.
02:40I think the prestige that Senegal has had in recent years will, unfortunately for Congo,
02:45kind of win out.
02:47Football at the end of the day can sometimes just be about heritage and who has the history
02:50and the prestige to take them over the line.
02:52And I think in African football, Senegal is a giant that still is yet to be topped.
02:56And Congo isn't there yet.
02:57Senegal is expected to take that for sure.
03:00Yeah, false.
03:00I'm going with Senegal as well.
03:02I'm going true.
03:03Hey, okay.
03:04Senegal beat them last time in qualifying.
03:07I think Congo, after their performance in the last half, is looking for revenge.
03:11And now's the time to do it.
03:12They're in form.
03:13They'll take it.
03:15All right.
03:15And speaking of Ka'ef, we got to talk about one of the best players in the Premier League
03:20right now.
03:21Your boy, Semenya, who's been absolutely balling for AFC Bournemouth, just bagged another brace.
03:26But how good is he right now in the Premier League?
03:28Is he legitimately the best player in the Premier League right now?
03:31In current form, he gets into any team at the moment.
03:34I agree.
03:35You know, Kloyvord even said he's world class and that just comes down to consistency.
03:38But being able to beat your man at his stature, very quick feat.
03:42You know, very explosive guy.
03:43So, no, he's always talked about his come-up story.
03:46You know, the fact that even when he was coming up, you know, he was denied a lot.
03:50And it's showing now.
03:51He's not being denied anymore.
03:52Definitely not.
03:53I think, too, just what you spoke about his explosiveness and shiftiness on the wing,
03:57to add that in with now an increased goal contribution, and especially in these big
04:01moments, I think it's taken him up a notch.
04:03I don't know if he's the best Premier League player right now, but if he continues at this
04:07current state, he could have a legit shot at Player of the Year in the Prem.
04:10So, that's what I think about it.
04:12I think Semenya right now is undoubtedly the best African player on form.
04:17That's easy to say.
04:18Now, in terms of whether or not he's the best Prem player, I think in the most, in
04:24the recent weeks, the goals that he's scoring and the confidence that he has puts him up
04:28there.
04:28I think what's easy for me to say is that he's the most confident Premier League player
04:30right now.
04:31Yeah, yeah.
04:31That is something I think that's underrated and not spoken about enough, but we were talking
04:36about fear and fearing players earlier and defenders fearing someone coming at them.
04:40If I see Semenya coming at me, I'm terrified.
04:43That's kind of how I feel right now.
04:44You can tell that he's someone on a mission.
04:45And for Ghana, it's an incredible person to have.
04:49With kudos on the other side, too.
04:51It's the team right there.
04:53And then speaking of a couple other great African players, Mohamed Salah and Ashraf Hakimi
04:57finished very high in the Ballon d'Or rankings, but were unable to win it, which still has the
05:031994 Ballon d'Or won by George Weah, the only one won by a player from Africa.
05:08What do we think these guys have to do to win the Ballon d'Or?
05:11Or do we think they actually can do it and who can be the next one to take on that role
05:15from George Weah?
05:15What y'all thoughts?
05:16So this is an interesting year for African football because African players are uniquely
05:20positioned to have a major international tournament and then the World Cup, AFCON World Cup, which
05:28means that if an African player manages to do very well in AFCON and do very well in the
05:33World Cup, their ballot for winning Ballon d'Or should be weighed very heavily.
05:37A player like Salah or a player like Hakimi has the chance this year to win an unprecedented
05:43amount of trophies, whether it's with their league club teams or with their international
05:47teams.
05:48And I feel like the prestige that's not given to AFCON in recent years is slowly starting
05:52to catch up and people are slowly starting to value the tournament more and more.
05:55If an African team manages to pull off what Morocco did in the World Cup last time and
06:01go all the way to the semifinals.
06:02First ever African team to make a semifinal and then manages to win AFCON, I think on
06:08paper, had Hakimi had the season that he had then and also done reasonably well in the
06:14Champions League, say semifinals, win Ligue 1 and win Coupe de France, Ballon d'Or.
06:20Deserved Ballon d'Or.
06:22And I think if he doesn't win a Ballon d'Or with a season like that or if Salah manages to
06:26win Premier League, do well in Champions League, win AFCON, do quarterfinals, semifinals in
06:31the World Cup, Ballon d'Or.
06:33And if they don't, then there's a conversation that needs to be had about how AFCON is looked
06:36at and how African players are looked at.
06:38Ballon d'Or is obviously always going to be connected to Champions League ball.
06:42So for Salah, I think that's the only thing missing for him.
06:44Speaking about those two players.
06:46Yep.
06:46And he's yet to win AFCON even though Egypt has the most AFCONs.
06:49So, I mean, if he was able to get that and then lead the Ballon d'Or, you know what I mean?
06:52And we've been asking, like, how great does he rank in terms of African players all time?
06:56That would be the cherry on top for me.
06:57The question though is, why didn't Hakimi deserve to win a Ballon d'Or this year?
07:01He's a defender.
07:02Just because he's a defender, he doesn't deserve it?
07:03He's not a...
07:04No, he's just not...
07:05It's the voting, they don't.
07:05He's not the person that the journalists are going to be like, this is the person that's
07:09the most exciting that people want to see on the poster.
07:12But...
07:12Because he's a defender.
07:13Hakimi is a defender that goes forward with a blistering pace.
07:16Of course.
07:17I couldn't agree more.
07:17Scores goals.
07:18I couldn't agree more.
07:18Gets in the middle.
07:19He's not scoring 40 goals in a season.
07:21That's fair, but I do think his play style as a defender, mixed with if he's able to
07:25do who knows a back-to-back...
07:26I agree.
07:27Listen, I'm saying how...
07:28He's not a defender with the best chance.
07:28I'm more saying how he can win it.
07:30You know what I'm saying?
07:30If he does that, a back-to-back trouble, which we've almost never seen, and then that
07:34similar win AFCON semis World Cup, you have to give it to him.
07:38And then speaking of Ballon d'Or candidates, Kylian Mbappe's little brother just scored
07:43an equalizing late goal against PSG for Lille.
07:46Kylian Mbappe himself was actually in attendance as well for this incredible moment.
07:51Doing the same celebration as each other that apparently actually his little brother
07:54made playing FIFA way back in the day.
07:56So just thoughts on kind of that brotherly moment and maybe where these two brothers
08:00can rank all time in Footballing Brothers.
08:02You have the likes of the two Rams right now.
08:04You have the Hazards.
08:05But what do we think about the Mbappe brothers?
08:07Before you...
08:08Are you saying that Ethan created the Mbappe celebration?
08:10He did.
08:11Oh, wow.
08:11He did it while they were playing...
08:12I think FIFA 17 is what Kylian had said.
08:14It's fire.
08:15Yeah.
08:16I like him giving the credit to the little brother because, you know, sometimes the older
08:18siblings don't like to give that credit.
08:19I appreciate that.
08:20As a little brother, I appreciate that.
08:21As an older brother, I would have never told anybody.
08:24You want to say that about France?
08:25It's my celebration.
08:26Yeah.
08:27But yeah.
08:28I think what it shows, at least just from what it shows, is that there has been a little
08:32bit of a bit of negative energy around Ethan because he is the brother of such a famous
08:39player.
08:39Yeah.
08:40The whispers of nepotism, the whispers of do you deserve it have always kind of been
08:44over his shoulder.
08:46He showed that he's one of the players in Ligue 1 that can take it to PSG this season.
08:50He scored a goal against PSG in a big moment.
08:52Like, how many players can say that went through Ligue 1 that they went and scored a goal against
08:58PSG?
08:58But even that is something that no one can take away from him.
09:00And I'll say, this is kind of a crazy thing to say, but is Mbappe the best player ever
09:05with a professional brother next to him?
09:08Off top, in at least the modern era, a player of that caliber, who if we're thinking about
09:12all the records he's breaking, everything he's doing, to also have a pro brother because
09:15Ronaldo doesn't have the brother, Messi, Maradona, Pele, all these guys, Xavi, Ernesto,
09:19et cetera.
09:20That's why I think all time, if Ethan has like a pretty solid career, that's a pretty
09:24crazy brother pairing.
09:25Bound for pound, they could be one of the best brothers.
09:27You know what I mean?
09:28That's what I'm saying.
09:29So, for sure.
09:30Keeping it in Ligue 1, Ansu Fati with two more goals for AS Monaco.
09:35He now has six on the season after returning from injury, all the things that he's been
09:38through in the past.
09:39What are y'all thoughts on Ansu Fati coming back and looking this good?
09:43For me, it just shows the importance of rehab.
09:45Like, we've seen so many players rush to come back and play, get hurt again.
09:50We know of players right now, young players who are struggling in other leagues to come
09:54back because their teams are forcing them to get on the pitch before they're fully ready.
09:58So, I think it's just a testament to Monaco and the whole system that they have over there,
10:02the healthcare system that they have at the team that's actually prioritizing the players,
10:07long-term wellness.
10:09And so, I hope that a bunch of more teams will also adopt that mentality because we're
10:12seeing the fruits of that labor.
10:15To finish things off, though, PSG is the kings of Europe at this current moment, and two
10:21of their largest challengers are having quite a difficult time right now.
10:25Liverpool, three straight games with losses.
10:27Barcelona, back-to-back losses, including a 4-1 demolition by Sevilla, which is something
10:32we definitely didn't expect.
10:33Who do you think of these two teams as more in trouble in terms of challenging PSG to take
10:38that crown?
10:39It's got to be Barcelona.
10:40I agree with you.
10:41At Liverpool, Liverpool is also down bad, but Barcelona, with the injury problems that
10:46they're having, the fact that they can't get their stadium together, the fact that they're
10:50trying to play games abroad and not focusing on what's going on at home, I think they're
10:56just really distracted.
10:57If they don't get it together quickly, I think it can be a very slippery slope.
11:03Yeah.
11:04But Liverpool is not safe either.
11:06A huge loss against Galatasaray a few weeks ago in the Champions League.
11:11Again, showing the strength of the Super League.
11:14So, they're both in trouble.
11:16But Barcelona, I don't know.
11:17They can fall apart really quickly.
11:19I agree with you.
11:20And I think Barcelona's high line is getting exposed now more than ever.
11:23And I was talking about it last season.
11:25Like, you can't keep winning 5-4.
11:27That high line is just getting torched right now.
11:29And I just don't think sustainable.
11:30You add in the injuries.
11:31You add in how they look without Lamine and Rafinha, because they do not have the depth
11:35of the likes of Real Madrid in Spain.
11:36I think Barca's in more trouble.
11:38I go with Barca.
11:38Playing that far up the pitch with injured players, too, is very intense on the body.
11:43Yep.
11:43But, you know, Liverpool had a really good offseason.
11:46But they brought a lot of people, so their system is built to last the whole season.
11:50So, no.
11:50That's all from us this week.
11:51You can catch 5Aside on Being Sports, Being Extra, and YouTube.
11:54And we'll catch y'all next week.
11:55Peace.
