IANS Exclusive: From theatre to television, Akshun Mahajan talks about his journey

Mumbai, Maharashtra: Actor Akshun Mahajan spoke to IANS. In the interview, Akshun opened up about his incredible journey from theatre to television. He added, After the theater show, I start working as an assistant director on Shamshera and Tiger 3. He also talked about his previous TV show, "Manpasand Ki Shaadi." The actor concluded the interview with a special message for his fans.

00:00so my journey has been nothing short of enlightening i've had a great time learning behind the camera

00:18first i was working in theater also as an actor i did almost 16 theater shows in mumbai in 2019

00:25a little short film some music videos and then i started working as an assistant director on

00:33shamshera in tiger 3 thanks to karmal utra sir ashu sir and all to giving me for giving me that

00:38opportunity to work and after that i shifted on to tiger 3 as an assistant director i was doing that

00:43under the guidance and mentorship of manis sir adep actually the diet team was too good i learned a lot

00:49from everyone and i saw why actors did what they did in front of the camera what are the looks what

00:55are the viewpoints or how certain technicalities work how body language works or dialects work what

01:01is voice modulation and all which i knew being in theater industry but watching it firsthand by

01:08actors that you've looked up to and you've idolized and grown up watching like salman sir and all uh

01:14ranbir sir uh sanju sir watching everybody perform the way they did gave me a lot of uh insight on

01:23certain performances karmal utra sir and so for me that evolution and then coming and performing in

01:37front of the camera when i did my tv show uh on colors uh manpasandki shadi i was very happy because i

01:43got to culminate the entire uh you know uh the learnings that i've received as an assistant

01:50director and then put them and imply them in the performance that i had in the television industry

01:54it was very good and very a lot of learnings that i got a lot of lessons that i learned as an actor

02:00and they're helping me and right now also i'm still evolving i'm still watching a lot of things

02:04uh reading some scripts and i've started writing my own so yeah

02:08again i've answered this earlier uh i've in on my instagram also i've clarified it on a

02:32uh very i think basic level layman language my show me jise creatively kuch jise required the

02:39development of the story ke liye jise bhi and muja jab pata chala ki ye ho raha hai

02:43maynne koi question nahi kya kyun ya kaise because i myself believe in it i've worked behind the camera

02:49and jisei apne poucha assistant director ka to i've been an assistant director i understand

02:53ki jab story ki development ki zaroorat hai aur cheeze ho rhi hai and again kisi ka agar

02:58point of view kuch hai kisi aur cheeze ko le ker uh to i don't question it i i trust in

03:04the maker's vision i trusted in them and this has happened so terminology to aap kuch bhi

03:10de sakte ho kisi ne chhoda ya replace kia ya terminate kia jo bhi wo terminologies at the end of the day

03:16uh i was performing a character called abhishek diwan which i was i got selected for

03:19ab wo abhishek diwan akshit play kar rahe simple story i had my own flavor that i got to abhishek

03:25diwan similarly akshit apna flavor la rahe jo bhi ne kal dekha by the way episode mein and i found it

03:30to be like fabulous i loved it i loved watching it and i'm still looking forward to watching the

03:34episode today also because i like akshit the way he's playing abhishek diwan he's getting a

03:38certain kind of uh you know body language to it and uh i think it's a very actor technical

03:45technical word that i'm using voice modulation and all the way he's doing it i'm looking forward

03:49to like it it has made me curious and like more excited

03:53uh actually explore the content sub uh i'm being an actor uh i want to perform more and more

04:11characters but at the same time the transition horror uh in general also i love it like there's

04:17a lot of people who get to watch a lot of things on just one television remote whether it's oddity

04:23or tv with all due respect to all the mediums i don't find any difference in any kind of medium

04:28i respect a television medium online medium or like it's a film obviously watching it in a cinema

04:35has a different kind of experience to it but at the same time i believe for an actor to get to act

04:41in a story that moves him individually is something that makes sense and that and if a script excites

04:48me regard regardless of it being on ott or a film or an advertisement or even uh you know like a

04:55talk show of the way they're going to do it i would be very willing to do it and that transition

05:03that you're asking me it makes me happy because nowadays even televisions are seen abroad they

05:10also have ways to watch it and it's not just limited to ott and the versatility as an actor that i can

05:17perform on certain uh certain shows or films is something that i'm looking forward to and it excites

05:22me in a way yeah i believe that any character that i do not just abhishek diwan it's a

05:37characters in life it's a short film or a theater show that i did i've always given my best that's

05:43something that i do because i only thing i think about and focus on in life is performing my

05:49characters the way i'm doing it in acting so the ones that i've been doing right now also the way

05:53i did abhishek diwan also i gave him 100 percent again then the audience the technicians they have

05:59their own viewpoints opinions about it and i respect all the criticism whether it's constructed or

06:03destructive i i love them and i take what i think is correct and i imply them again so i i've given

06:10100 percent but uh if you look at things then again horizon be like endless a lot of things like

06:17there's no end to anything so being uh very truthful to the character is i performed it to

06:23100 percent the way i felt it yeah and uh one thing i want to add my director jalat sir he's

06:31incredibly talented he won't have said okay to any take if i didn't match the character's criteria

06:37yeah okay i am very congruous to all the comments or all the feedback that i receive when i was doing

06:52the show and now that i'm not doing the show still i'm not a social media guy i don't use social media

06:58much so as much uh as many comments that i received and all what i've seen are all positive

07:04and there's one message that i've given to everyone on my instagram as well is that keep

07:10watching the show be more curious about everything that's happening and you know uh i believe in

07:16spreading positivity and love so that's something that i want everybody to do we should never uh limit

07:22ourselves to anything you know always be open to watching and experiencing new things and watching

07:29more things so jitne mujhe abhi feedbacks i comments i i've received love and i'm grateful for those

07:34love and if some if there is any negativity also they have been filtered out i haven't seen it yet

07:40because i again i hardly use it much so yeah

07:44okay there uh in in this one ott i went i've like a lot of my friends are directors who

08:02have uh debut from ott and are making films and shows as well at the same time

08:07and at the same time with all due respect to all the actors who've been through that

08:18i haven't been through that i didn't find any rigid uh there was no rigidness in the way

08:23people have asked me to do certain things there's no rigidness it was always a creative discussion

08:27and i got to perform the way i wanted to at the same time keeping my director's vision intact

08:32because i believe that the director's vision the maker's vision is something we have to live by and

08:37we have to abide by in order for the story to grow and come out and flourish the way it has to

08:43so and i don't believe that and i believe that i don't have the right experience to you know tell

08:51them that no this is how it should be played no i don't i don't believe in that so i'm a director's

08:56actor i just and producer's actor i just keep asking them if this was good or not and actually

09:02i poke them a lot asking them sir so the way they've asked me to perform a character we have

09:08had a discussion about it and i've performed it that way so no there's no rigidness that i felt

09:12personally

09:13the way i've told you in the beginning of the interview there's no such thing as quit

09:32it terminologies and replacement termination uh quit karna exit karna it's a terminologies

09:38reason or coi bold step bhi nahi hain as such a character thar jis ki aayu jitni main endi

09:46me ne ji hai us ke baad ab baqi ki aayu us character ki akshid jira é a apne tariqe

09:51sae so i don't think ni coi bold step kai hai e as such particularly hain its the way that

09:57a character demands certain actor so i think fortyone episodes tak ka saath akshun ke saath

10:04I am very excited that I will show you new projects

10:26when they are released

10:28Besides that, I was already there and I went there

10:35It does not mean that I will stop watching it
