00:00In 2020, Burger King launched one of the dumbest ads that almost destroyed the entire company.
00:05Because Burger King was trying to show people that unlike other fast food chains,
00:09their burgers contained zero artificial chemicals and preservatives.
00:13This was also a shot aimed at McDonald's,
00:15whose burgers can be seen online not rotting or decomposing even after being left out in the open for years.
00:22So to prove this point, Burger King released an ad showing a time lapse of their Whoppers
00:26slowly growing mold and decaying over 30 days.
00:29And they flooded the streets with posters and videos of the rotting Whopper making it impossible to ignore.
00:35The ad was a complete disaster at first after Burger King realized that they just spent millions of dollars
00:40just to promote a rotten Whopper with their name stamped on it.
00:44Because instead of highlighting their fresh ingredients, the campaign just grossed people out and hurt sales.
00:49But after some research and press coverage, people understood the message
00:53and Burger King's sales actually went up by 30%.
