00:00U.S. President Donald Trump says he'll be meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in
00:06Hungary to discuss the war in Ukraine. Trump announced the meeting in a post on his social
00:11media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday. In his post, Trump shared that a high-level meeting
00:18involving his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will precede the summit meeting with Putin.
00:25The news came after what the White House described as a long and quote,
00:28very productive phone call between the two presidents. Speaking to reporters shortly
00:34after Trump's post, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said the U.S. President is
00:39optimistic he can make a face-to-face meeting between himself, Putin, and Zelensky happen in
00:46the near future. I think he thinks it's possible and he would of course love to see that happen,
00:52but right now there were discussions and plans are now being made for the Russian side and our
00:59folks, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to meet and then for President Putin and President
01:05Trump to perhaps meet again. But I don't think the president has closed the door on that at all.
01:10The announcement arrived on the eve of Trump's third White House meeting with Ukraine's President
01:14Volodymyr Zelensky. The two leaders are expected to discuss on Friday ways to ramp up pressure on the
01:21Kremlin to end its almost four-year invasion. The meeting between Trump and Putin, which a date
01:27has yet to be set, would be the second time the pair convene since their last meeting in Alaska in
01:33August. NATO and the EU are working on the formation of a so-called drone wall which is key to Europe's
01:42future defense and deterrence capabilities. NATO's top military officer, the Supreme Allied Commander of
01:48Europe, or SACUR, and NATO allies say the drone wall is urgent, given the growing spate of Russian
01:53jets and drones into several NATO countries' airspace, including Poland and Romania. NATO defense
01:59ministers met this week to discuss the drone wall as well as how best to react to airspace violations.
02:05In addition, growing number of allies committed money to the newly formed Pearl Initiative, designed
02:09for Europe and Canada to purchase weapons from the U.S. to deliver to Ukraine.
02:14Colonel Martin O'Donnell, Chief Public Affairs Officer for NATO SACUR, says protecting the eastern
02:19flank of Europe is the highest priority right now. NATO obviously working with the EU, working with
02:27all allies, right, to shore up their air defenses all along the eastern front. And for the Supreme
02:33Allied Commander of Europe, he views the eastern front not simply as those countries that border the
02:39east. He views that from the high north all the way down to the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea,
02:44and beyond, and at depth. As the NATO Secretary General has said, we're all eastern flank nations.
02:50One of the issues coming into this meeting was how and whether to shoot down Russian jets or drones,
02:54that there wasn't a uniform rules of engagement. How has that changed or evolved during this few days?
02:59So I think one of the most important things to mention is the fact that SACUR, Supreme Allied
03:07Commander Europe, with all forces that are assigned to him, assigned to NATO, has the authorities at the
03:13moment to act. And we saw that with the incident in Poland and Estonia recently, where NATO had the
03:23authorities to and acted appropriately.
03:26There's been a lot of reports that there's been quite a sudden and sharp decrease in military
03:31spending and military support for Ukraine amongst allies, over 40%. I mean, what's your response to
03:36that? Is that worrying, obviously, now coming into the winter?
03:39There was momentum from all the nations on contributions, not just to, per se, bilateral
03:46contributions from a nation to Ukraine, or multilateral contributions, but also for initiatives such as
03:53the pearl or the prioritized Ukraine requirements list. Very, very good response. I believe you
03:59heard that from the Secretary General, right? More than half of NATO allies have expressed
04:04commitments to contribute. And I think we'll see here more announcements very, very soon.
04:09Now, we know that Donald Trump is obviously going to make a decision on Friday about tomahawks
04:13and the use of tomahawks. But what's your own impression of the impact of this discussion?
04:18Well, I think there's a number of things worldwide, right, that potentially make the movement towards
04:25peace more possible. We saw recent developments in the Middle East, right, that President Trump drove.
04:31We'll see what happens on Friday, and we'll see what happens from Friday.
04:45For a few more in time, we'll see what happens.
04:48We'll see what happens on Friday, and we'll see what happens on Friday, and at the time the
04:53phase will be joined on Friday. So I think the unfortunate conflict that there are
04:58both年前 being rotated on holiday. We said, even though we're vist転します, we had the
05:03illness on holiday markets. We were even slag about the Second Geongress, which was
05:09wasted,iosa miles where people don't get backatie.
06:13The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy is seeking to complete the tender to conduct hydrocarbon exploration missions in four new areas in Peloponnese and Crete by the end of the year.
06:23The Greek Energy Minister says they're awaiting a court's approval before it can be passed for a parliamentary vote in early 2026.
06:32Officials hope to begin exploration next year and expect missions to take three to five years to assess the availability of exploitable deposits.
07:12There are currently eight active hydrocarbon exploration and production contracts in Greece
07:22involving major investors such as ExxonMobil, Hellenic Energy and Energen.
07:27The Prinos area is in the production phase, Catacolon is in the development phase, while six other areas are in the exploration phase.
07:36Three marine areas in the Ionian Sea, two marine areas in Crete and one onshore area, Ioannina, which is also in the most mature phase.
07:44Another important project that the Greek government is working on is the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection cable.
07:51We have a conversation with the government of Crete for the various technical issues on the level of rhythmism,
07:57which we have had to be addressed as important for the project.
08:02We are in a very good conversation.
08:03We have already some announcements from the Crete for the spread of the Crete for the spread of the ADIs in the ADIs.
08:09It was one of the indicators that we had.
08:12We have other issues.
08:13We have a conversation with a discussion.
08:14so that we can close it one-on-one so that we can be able to cover this area
08:19that has been created among the two parts of this project.
08:23The European Commission expects a commitment towards faster implementation
08:27of the electricity interconnection, noting that any further delay hurts outside.
08:33Athena and Lefkosia remain for the importance of the project
08:36in the removal of energy safety in the Middle East.
08:39However, the scenes around its implementation have improved.
08:43At this time, it is unknown to what will be the next steps and how it will be.
08:48And this is a certainty that causes a threat in the Greek-Cyprian relations.

08:59An exhibition in Berlin depicts Hamas's attack on the Nova Music Festival
09:04on October 7th, 2023.
09:07At 6.29am, the music stopped, drowned out by rockets, gunfire and panic.
09:13Roy Drey was at the festival with friends.
09:16The rockets just kept going for a while, more than usual.
09:22I remember looking at the sky and seeing all the lines from the smoke of the launches of the rockets.
09:28And there were so many of them, dozens.
09:30And we had to run from terrorist shooting at us.
09:33What I had in my mind in those moments is looking at my brother and having eye contact with him
09:39to know he's fine.
09:43And he looked at me and I'm fine and we are coming home alive.
09:48There is no other way for us.
09:50He managed to escape with his brother and drive back to their hometown of Bir Sheva.
09:56But not everyone in his group of friends made it.
09:59I had a responsibility on me to the families of my friends
10:03because I got to tell them the story of how I'm here
10:08and their sons that I was with in the festival are not.
10:12Ariel Barok from Tel Aviv lost his sister Anita and her boyfriend Segev that day.
10:18Contact with them was lost at 7.30am.
10:21It took a while for us to understand what happened.
10:24We discovered through a video clip on Telegram.
10:27In this video we saw Anita and Segev shot dead in their car.
10:32What helps him now is talking about the loss of his sister.
10:36You know Anita, you can see she and Segev, they were like very happy people, always smiling.
10:43And for me, waking up each day, trying to do my best to live life to the fullest
10:52and always smile because this is her will and this is what keeps me on going.
10:56The exhibition pays tribute to the return of the last living hostages,
11:0111 of whom were kidnapped from the Nova Festival.
11:04The day of their return marks a turning point.
11:08I think it's a real mark in our lives as a community.
11:14For us it's October 8th because October 7th was two years ago, now it's October 8th.
11:19We can have more room now to breathe.
11:22We can have more room now to concentrate in the healing journey
11:26and to tell the friends that I lost the story
11:28because this is what I want to do for their families and for them
11:32and my own way to keep them alive in some way.
11:36See you next time.
