Acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos returns to the big screen this fall with Bugonia, a dark sci-fi comedy set for U.S. release on October 24, 2025. The film stars Emma Stone as a powerful tech CEO who becomes the target of two paranoid conspiracy theorists, played by Jesse Plemons and newcomer Aidan Delbis. Convinced she’s an alien intent on destroying humanity, the duo kidnaps her in a misguided attempt to save the world. What follows is a tense and surreal exploration of truth, delusion, and the fine line between heroism and madness.
Joining the cast are Alicia Silverstone and comedian Stavros Halkias in supporting roles, rounding out an ensemble primed for Lanthimos’s trademark blend of unsettling humor and offbeat storytelling. Known for his critically acclaimed films The Favourite and Poor Things, Lanthimos appears to be diving deeper into genre territory with Bugonia, tackling themes of mistrust, media-fueled hysteria, and the absurdities of modern belief systems. With a unique premise and a stellar cast, Bugonia is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated — and most bizarre — releases of the fall movie season.
