00:00You know, I think I've probably spent most of my life staring in the mirror.
00:03I have. But I'm not vain, you see, because I don't stare at myself.
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at Jim Carrey's most iconic impersonations of
00:13famous people, and how spot-on they really are.
00:16Who am I? Why am I here?
00:20Jerry Seinfeld
00:21It's always delightful to watch one legend impersonate another.
00:25When Jim Carrey imitated Jerry Seinfeld for an episode of In Living Colour, he went all out.
00:32When they say warm up the engine, this is not what they intended.
00:37What?
00:39In his classic over-the-top style, the mask actor perfectly highlighted the Seinfeld co-creator's
00:47sing-song cadence. He also captured Jerry's animated expressions, reminding us of his
00:52classic bemused demeanor.
00:54Clap on, clap off. I'm watching TV. Every time someone gets a round of applause, my garage
01:00door goes up and down. Clap on, clap off. I'm watching TV. Every time someone gets a round
01:06of applause.
01:07From the wobbly neck to the toothy grin, Carrey knows exactly how to make his impression recognisable.
01:14The masterstroke is how he mimics his subject's signature setup, asking, what's the deal?
01:19However, at no point does Jim cross over to disrespectful territory, and that's precisely
01:25why we love this act.
01:27What teacher has signed this project?
01:29Looking at the state of it, I hope they're grading on a curve.
01:33Sylvester Stallone. Attempting a sly impression is like a rite of passage for comedians.
01:39The Oscar-nominated actor, who memorably played Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, has distinct
01:45traits that lend themselves wonderfully to impressionists.
01:48I know you're looking for sparring partners, and I just want to say I'm very available,
01:52you know.
01:52I'm sure you are?
01:53Absolutely. Sparring with a chamber of being an honor, and you know what, Mr. Jurgens?
01:57What?
01:57I wouldn't take no cheap shots either, it'd really be a good sparring partner, you know.
02:01In the hands of master impressionist Jim Carrey, they transform into comedy gold.
02:06Carrey imitates his larger-than-life presence and effortless swagger with ease, mixing it
02:11with exaggerated facial impressions for a slapstick effect.
02:15You just want to, you move.
02:17You live.
02:18You live.
02:19Easy, easy, right.
02:20Not too many syllables.
02:21Heck, I'm light-headed there.
02:23Hey, listen, I still got the island tiger, you know that.
02:26His Rocky impression in one of his In Living Colour sketches, where the character is fighting
02:31Grace Jones, is even funnier.
02:34Obviously, it wouldn't be a Stallone impression without a nod to his draw, and Carrey unsurprisingly
02:39nails that part too.
02:41You're not going to be fighting a man tonight, you'll be fighting an animal.
02:44Animals don't scare me.
02:47Yeah?
02:48Well, this one will.
02:51Lance Armstrong.
02:52Can you just go for a ride, or do people, and sort of chill out and just ride your
02:56bike, or does your, you know, do you feel like that competitive nature coming back when
03:01you're riding?
03:02It depends where you ride.
03:02I mean, most of the time I ride at home in Austin, so it's quiet.
03:06You don't really see anybody.
03:07If you rode here in Central Park, you know, you tend to run into some folks.
03:10Carrey's impersonation of the former road racing cyclist was inspired by his likeness
03:15to the disgraced athlete after he shaved his hair off.
03:19So, during an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman, he spontaneously whipped out
03:24a hilarious Lance Armstrong impression.
03:27A lot of people say I look like Lance Armstrong, especially when I do this.
03:34Just by pretending to be on a bike and copying Lance's gestures, Carrey earns a roaring applause
03:39from the audience.
03:40The host can hardly match the comedian's energy, who keeps extending his bit.
03:45Carrey even gets Letterman involved by claiming he's drafting, and throws in some toilet humor
03:50for good measure, bringing the house down.
03:53Around mile 50 is where I break away from the pack by just passing wind.
04:02How'd you do back there, Dave?
04:03Fine.
04:05That's something lovely to be near.
04:07It's an image.
04:08Pee-wee Herman.
04:09What should we do now?
04:11I know.
04:13Let's go look at my toys.
04:15Paul Rubin's unforgettable character was parodied by Jim Carrey during an episode of
04:20In Living Color.
04:21In the sketch, which aired shortly after Rubin's was arrested for indecent exposure in an adult
04:26movie theater, Carrey did not hesitate to call the actor out.
04:30As always, pull my string and I'll talk.
04:35I have the right to an attorney.
04:38I have the right to remain silent.
04:40And what if I did some charity work instead?
04:43His impression, though caricaturish, is way too accurate.
04:48From Pee-wee's voice to his signature laugh and even the mannerisms.
04:52However, it is the satirical content that makes the audience go wild.
04:56The doll Carrey's Herman attempts to advertise is a lookalike of Rubin's mugshot.
05:02And its features are inappropriate, to say the least.
05:05The new Pee-wee doll comes with Turbo Fest.
05:09So no Pee-wee can beat this drum.
05:14Social commentary aside, the impersonation was masterful and left us wanting more.
05:20Henry Fonda.
05:21Did you know that Jim Carrey auditioned for SNL multiple times and was rejected each time?
05:27The show's creator, Lorne Michaels, later admitted that he regrets not casting the legend.
05:33One of Carrey's audition acts was an impression of Henry Fonda as Norman Thayer Jr.
05:39in On Golden Pond.
05:41That's why I came running back here to you.
05:45See your pretty face.
05:49I could feel safe.
05:50I was still me.
05:51His scene of choice was the one where Catherine Hepburn's Ethel urges Norman to go strawberry picking.
05:57Equipped with a bucket hat, an endearing frown and overly expressive eyebrows,
06:02he takes his impression to the extreme.
06:04Even playing out Ethel's lines as well, before switching to Norman again in a split second.
06:10I'm not sure how to pick strawberries.
06:13It's very simple, Norman.
06:16You just bend over and pick them.
06:21Although his expressions are over the top, he flawlessly copies Fonda's voice,
06:26managing to evoke the pathos of the original scene.
06:29What a genius.
06:30I suppose I could...
06:32Lay down and pick the berries.
06:40Jerry Lewis.
06:42Impersonating the so-called king of comedy is no easy feat.
06:45For Jim Carrey, though, it seems like a catwalk.
06:48He famously did a Jerry Lewis impression during an appearance on Buffalo Bill,
06:53leaving viewers in stitches.
06:54Lewis was known for his characteristic nasal voice and mastery of slapstick humor.
07:10Carey, having the same specialities, was in his element for this impression.
07:15His Jerry Lewis voice is so spot on,
07:17it almost sounds like it was dubbed over by the bellboy actor himself.
07:21The additive was specifically three parts carbon, five parts hydrogen, one part nitrogen, and three parts oxygen.
07:29Which, of course, he is.
07:30The nitroglycerin.
07:31The results were?
07:33Negative.
07:34And?
07:35Noisy.
07:35In a brilliant display of physical comedy, Carey turns the set upside down like an agent of chaos.
07:42The only complaint we have is that his part was too short.
07:45Joe Biden.
08:00Jim Carrey's recurring impression of the 46th president of the United States on SNL has a fandom of its own.
08:06You can't lose your cool just because this joker's raising little monkey dust.
08:12The country's counting on you.
08:14Just stand here.
08:16And look lucid.
08:18The SFX department does a fantastic job of transforming the comedian into a Biden lookalike every time.
08:25But that's the least impressive part about this impression.
08:28Instead of resorting to cartoonish physical comedy at once,
08:31Jim starts with a subtle mimicry,
08:34recreating the former president's mannerisms and quirks.
08:37However, he doesn't end it before jumping into slapstick for a few rare moments.
08:43Where was I?
08:44You said look.
08:45Here's the deal.
08:46Oh, right.
08:48Look.
08:50Here's the deal.
08:53Nope, lost it.
08:55Come back to me.
08:56Parodying Biden's meandering delivery,
08:58Carey oscillates between avuncular charm and unhinged rage.
09:02Most strangely, his Biden seems to be fond of rhymes.
09:06But hey, we're not complaining.
09:08Still, I will win.
09:10Because I'm a baller.
09:12Just ask my running mate, Kamala.
09:25Clint Eastwood.
09:26You've got to ask yourself one question.
09:28Do I feel lucky?
09:31Well, do you, punk?
09:32The Dirty Harry megastar is an inimitable artist, but that doesn't mean he can't be impersonated.
09:39Then again, not everyone can mimic him, not like Jim Carrey can.
09:42He focuses on the eyebrows, recreating Eastwood's intense, smouldering gaze.
09:47Vocally, he emphasizes the actor's breathy draw and measured delivery,
09:52but ensures that his impression is both accurate and hilarious.
09:56The Truman Show actor has performed this impression many times over the years.
10:00He did it on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson,
10:03then took it to Letterman,
10:04and even included it in his own comedy special, Unnatural Act.
10:09The funniest one, however, was when he imitated the man to his face
10:13at his AFI Life Achievement Award tribute,
10:17making him laugh out loud.
10:19Clearly, it's Eastwood approved.
10:21He just said to me,
10:24I love that tape.
10:33And I show it to all my friends.
10:36Matthew McConaughey
10:37Sometimes you've got to go back.
10:39To actually move forward.
10:45And I don't mean going back to reminisce or chase ghosts.
10:49I mean going back to see where you came from.
10:52We'd recognize the interstellar actor's signature southern drawl
10:55and deep, smoky voice in our sleep.
10:58That is, unless Jim Carrey was impersonating him,
11:00in which case, we'd probably mix them up.
11:04Sometimes you've got to go back to actually move forward.
11:07And I don't mean go back and reminisce or chase ghosts.
11:12I mean, take a big step back.
11:15Like go from winning an Oscar to doing a car commercial.
11:18Kerry, being an extraordinary dramatic actor himself,
11:22has no difficulty convincingly mimicking McConaughey's brooding expressions.
11:26However, the real knee slapper is how he imitates his voice,
11:30delivering hilariously cryptic dialogues with mock seriousness.
11:34From parodying the Oscar-winner's pensive Lincoln commercial to playing him in a 2015 Celebrity Jeopardy sketch on SNL.
11:43Kerry never fails to crack us up with this impression.
11:46Free will is an illusion.
11:50Life is a game that plays us.
11:56So you don't have an answer.
11:58At this point, I didn't know if I was dreaming him.

12:18Jack Nicholson
12:19Haven't you ever heard of the healing power of laughter?
12:25No one loves Jim Carrey's impression of the shining actor more than the star himself.
12:31The comedian copies Nicholson's trademark arched brows,
12:35wicked grin and raspy tone without breaking a sweat.
12:38He also zeroes in on details like his controlled pacing and wide eyes,
12:43especially when impersonating his Joker.
12:46Carrey's posture during those bits, confident and unpredictable, is unmistakably Nicholson.
12:52Wait till they get a load of me.
12:54Wait till they get a load of me.
12:57He once imitated the multi-Oscar winner while he was in the audience at Meryl Streep's AFI Live Achievement Award tribute.
13:05And the older actor couldn't stop laughing.
13:07That's how you know Jim hit the nail on the head.
13:11I can't believe I ate the whole thing.
13:16Who would you like Jim Carrey to impersonate next?
13:19Tell us in the comments.
13:20It's pleasure.
13:25You owe me.
13:26You owe me.
13:29You owe me.
13:30You owe me.
13:30You owe me.
13:32You owe me.
13:33You owe me.
13:34You owe me.
13:35You owe me.
13:36You owe me.
