00:00Have you ever been in a situation where your boss is asked about how things are going with the company
00:03and he decides to out you as the weakest link that works for the entire company?
00:08No? No? Well, that happened yesterday with Woody Johnson and Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields.
00:15Woody Johnson got kind of cornered by some reporters at the NFL fall meetings.
00:20They do them every year.
00:21And a couple of the New York writers want to get Woody's take on the fact that the Jets are 0-7.
00:26And once again, the laughingstock of the league, which they always are, under his watch.
00:32And then one of the questions came up about Aaron Glenn and specifically the quarterback situation.
00:38This is unedited.
00:39This is the owner of the New York Jets throwing his starting quarterback, rightfully so, by the way,
00:45but throwing his quarterback under the proverbial bus.
00:48Listen to this.
00:48You know, it's hard when you have a quarterback with, you know, with a rating that we've got, you know.
00:56I mean, he has the ability, but something just is not jiving.
01:00If we could just complete a pass, it would look good.
01:04All right, so let me start with the first thing.
01:06He came out and said, it's hard to win when you have a quarterback with the rating he has.
01:10To be fair, the reporters did not follow up and ask Woody Johnson,
01:14are you talking Madden rating or are you talking, like, PFF rating?
01:19Right.
01:20Because the New York Jets, quite famously, use Madden ratings to decide whether or not they want to go after free agents
01:27or re-sign their own guys whose contracts are up.
01:29That's a fact.
01:30Yes.
01:30They lean to Madden ratings to make personnel decisions.
01:34So, I'm going to assume he's not talking about Madden ratings, but I honestly don't know.
01:39So, if you're Justin Fields, it's bad enough that you're 0-7, you got benched, rightfully so, for Tyrod Taylor.
01:46And, look, you got $40 million guaranteed, so maybe it doesn't matter.
01:49And I guess some athletes get to that level.
01:52Say what you want about me.
01:53At least I go home to a nice house.
01:54I don't have to work ever again and I'm 25 years old.
01:57All good, but I've never in my life seen an owner come out and basically throw his starting quarterback under the bus
02:03the way Woody Johnson just did.
02:05The craziest thing about it is that he's also right.
02:09Like, if you have a quarterback who literally throws for 35 yards a game
02:14and can't throw the ball down the field and takes the sacks the way he does,
02:18how are you ever going to win?
02:20And how do I judge Aaron Glenn as the head coach if he doesn't have a quarterback?
02:24I would tell you this, if I'm the general manager of the New York Jets,
02:28I'm getting my resume ready on LinkedIn because the owner just said,
02:32why did I waste $40 million guaranteed on a guy that can't play quarterback?
02:36The second thing he said right there, and I hope you heard it,
02:40was if we could just complete one pass, the offense might look a little bit better.
02:45Again, shots across the bow right at Justin Fields.
02:48So, when the owner comes out and tells you that, if you're Justin Fields, it's over.
02:53It's a wrap.
02:53Yes, absolutely.
02:55Like, if the coaching staff at some point now goes back to Justin Fields over Tyrod Taylor,
03:00then you get fired.
03:02And you'd get fired deservingly so.
03:05But it's such a level of incompetence from Woody Johnson,
03:08and the fact that he just matter-of-factly at the owner's meeting comes out and goes,
03:13yeah, my quarterback sucks.
03:15How do you expect me to win football games when my quarterback sucks?
03:19And my response is, you got rid of Sam Darnold prematurely.
03:24He looks like a pretty damn good quarterback right now.
03:27He does.
03:27Oh, you had Aaron Rodgers on the roster who flew from California to New Jersey to discuss
03:34playing for Aaron Glenn, and you fired him on the spot, basically, and cut him loose, right?
03:40Yep.
03:40You could have had Daniel Jones, dare I say it, for a third of what you're paying right
03:45now to Justin Fields, right?
03:48You could have.
03:49You could have had a bunch of guys.
03:51You could have had Matt Jones, who's doing a good job in San Francisco for the Niners while
03:55Purdy's out.
03:56But no, you're the guy that blessed giving $40 million guaranteed when there was no other
04:03offers for Justin Fields to be your starting quarterback.
