Maresca on Chelsea's 5-1 champions league win against ten-man Ajax
Transcript
00:00Enzo, lots of records set tonight, Chelsea the first club to have three teenagers
00:28scored in a Champions League game, Guiyu then Esteval became the youngest goal scorers
00:34for Chelsea in the Champions League and Reggie Walsh the youngest player ever. How proud
00:38are you of a team that young achieving that kind of result?
00:43Very proud. It's a special night for the club, for the young players. I think Guiyu already
00:58scored for Chelsea, 5-6 goals last year in conference. Thay already scored also in the
01:03Premier League, Esteval exactly the same. I think overall it was a great night,
01:09especially for these young players and for the club.
01:14Enzo, how important is it that the club constantly use young players and show that you will give them
01:20chances in sort of big Champions League matches? How important is that for the club
01:24and the strategy of the overall club? It's the strategy of the club. We have so many
01:32young players. I think already last season we were the youngest squad in the history of the
01:37Premier League, so this season we continue in the same way. We changed tonight from Forest's game,
01:4710 players. It's not easy, you know, from Premier League to Champions League to change so many
01:52players, but we need to do that otherwise they are going to struggle because many games we need to
01:59protect some of the players and tonight I think was also good because we could, you know, rotate
02:04players, especially with the red card. Gary?
02:10Hi Enzo, congratulations. Thank you. You're now just, only by goal difference, not in the top eight,
02:21same points as Barcelona, Liverpool. What does that say? I know it's early, but what does that say tonight,
02:28that result, that performance about Chelsea's prospects are going deep into this Champions League
02:35competition this season? We always said the same, but at the end it's because it's true. We go always
02:43game by game. I think tonight was good to win, to continue to, you know, the momentum.
02:51But now, you know, in 48 hours we have one more game that is very demanding, Premier League game against
03:00Sunderland. I think it's good for everyone, for the club, but it's a win and personally it doesn't
03:08mean too much in terms of the season. It's just to continue to play games, to try to win, to try to
03:15improve players and this is the main thing. And four wins now on the bouts in all competitions, what does that
03:21do for momentum and confidence, particularly as we've spoken about, the young players in the squad?
03:26Yeah, yeah, we need to, you know, we need to continue on that, knowing that Saturday it's a tough game
03:34against Sunderland, they are doing very well. But, you know, we're going to try to prepare the game
03:42with the same intention that we had since day one, that is try to win the game, and then we'll see.
03:47Davida.
03:54Ciao Enzo. One word about Esteval. He was trying to score, trying to create something,
04:02even 5-1 up. What do you think is his best quality?
04:09With young players, most of the time you are a little bit worried, because they play one game,
04:13two games, good game, they score and they think that they are already top players. The good thing
04:18about Esteval is that we don't need to be worried about that, because he's very humble,
04:23he's very polite, he wants to work hard. He has fantastic family, that they are very close to him.
04:32And for me personally, it's fantastic, because he's a special player, but at the same time,
04:38you don't have to be worried to say, OK, now he's going to play one game, two games, you know,
04:43score, and he's already thinking that he knows how good he is. But the good thing is that it's
04:48a very simple guy, simple boy. Jacob?
04:53Enzo, you were kind of puffing your cheeks out on the touchline when Esteval almost scored that
04:59at the head kick. I mean, is it just a bit of a joy for you as a manager to watch what these kids
05:04are willing to try? Absolutely, I feel very lucky to be his manager, because he's, you know,
05:11it's exciting, you can enjoy. I think, we said many times, I think the fans at the end, they pay
05:16the tickets to see players like Cole, like Esteval, this kind of player. So it's nice that,
05:22you know, we can have players like Esteval, like Cole, like them.
05:27Are they kind of surprising you with what they're ready to try and do, these kids at times?
05:36I work with them every day, I know what they can do, I know also that, you know,
05:43we're going to have moments where we struggle a little bit more, for sure, but I think the good
05:48thing about them is that they want to learn, they want to improve, and I think it's good.
05:54Okay, thanks guys. Thank you.
