00:00The BMA's proposed strike action is unnecessary, and it is irresponsible.
00:06Unnecessary because there is a deal on offer.
00:09We can, right now, increase extra training places that doctors are crying out for.
00:15We can help resident doctors with some of their out-of-pocket expenses
00:18and some of their exam fees, for example,
00:21but we will not be able to afford that if we're paying the cost of strike action.
00:25So, my message to the BMA is call off these strikes, get around the table.
00:30We can create extra jobs that your members are crying out for.
00:33Otherwise, we're going to be hit with a bigger bill, which is going to be bad for patients,
00:38bad for the NHS, but also self-defeating for resident doctors.
