00:00Vintage Russell Wilson showed up in Jerry's world.
00:03The moon ball was in full effect.
00:05He went 7-4-11 for 264 yards, three touchdowns,
00:09one interception on deep passes.
00:11Those are passes with 20-plus air yards.
00:14The 264 yards, well, that's the most deep passing yards
00:18in a game since next-gen stats started tracking back in 2016.
00:23What did we learn about year 14 Russell Wilson
00:26in week two versus week one?
00:28When Russ had time, he didn't check the ball down.
00:31He let it fly.
00:32Three of his biggest plays you can see here in blue,
00:35a moon ball to Malik Neighbors for six,
00:37a strike to Wondell Robinson for six,
00:40and a clutch dime delivered to Neighbors for six
00:44that we thought was going to be game.
00:46So let's break down the protection and the pass on those plays
00:49to show how when given time, Russ can still cook
00:52and the moon ball is still alive.
00:55All right, first play was that 29-yard dime
00:58to Malik Neighbors for a touchdown.
01:00Hell of a catch by Malik Neighbors.
01:02But you know what?
01:03Shout out to the O-line for the protection.
01:05Let's break this thing down.
01:07All right, what we're seeing here is a four-man rush.
01:10The Commanders did the exact same thing in week one,
01:13but the Giants' offensive line struggled.
01:16Sounds very basic in terms of some of the things
01:18that we're going to see and I'm going to talk about,
01:20but look how much he is protected and how he can step into the throw.
01:26If you're looking at this, and we'll rewind this back right now,
01:29take a look at the offensive line.
01:30Up top to the left, that left tackle, that's rookie, Marcus Bowe.
01:34He came in and held his own when James Hudson III got benched for,
01:39we don't even need to go there.
01:40But look how in the middle, the interior pressure,
01:43how they're able to hold up against this interior pressure.
01:46So when you see the motion here, they're only going to rush four again.
01:54Russ snaps it, pause it.
01:56Clean protection.
01:58Again, Marcus Bowe, one-on-one, holds his own.
02:02You can see John Runyon Jr. kind of scan to see if there's any blitzers,
02:07and then he goes over and he helps Bowe out.
02:09JMS, John Michael Schmitz has his one-on-one.
02:13He's got his guy stalemate.
02:14And then you've got Van Roden and Illuminor both on their one-on-ones
02:18getting somebody up out the club.
02:20If you're able to protect Russell Wilson,
02:23he is going to throw the football down the field
02:26and deliver moon balls like he's been doing for 13 years in the NFL.
02:31All right, second play is fourth and four here.
02:33This is one of the biggest plays of the game
02:36until the biggest play of the game.
02:3832-yard touchdown pass to Wondell Robinson.
02:42Check out the protection here
02:43because the protection held up just enough
02:46for Wondell to run clean up the side.
02:49Now, if you're watching this, all right, you've got four.
02:52They're rushing four again.
02:54There's nothing special there.
02:55But again, that's something that they struggled with a week prior.
02:59You've got five offensive linemen and a running back
03:01in protection to protect five.
03:03Look out to protect against four.
03:06Look how clean this pocket is.
03:07The right tackle, Jermaine Illuminor, runs his pass rusher right by Russ up the field.
03:13Big point here to watch.
03:15Van Roten, the right guard, gets beat.
03:19But look how the center, JMS, John Michael Schmitz, helps him out.
03:24He helps him enough to hold that rusher so Russ can kind of step into this throw.
03:29That was a big point of emphasis going into this game from week one to week two.
03:37How these guys are going to handle double teams, how these guys are going to handle stunts.
03:41If you look to the left side here, left guard, John Runyon, he handles him and Marcus Bowe,
03:47a rookie, in his first real action.
03:51Look how they handle their one-on-one and look how they handle the stunts.
03:54Russell Wilson was getting his face knocked off last week against the commanders.
04:00Look, when you talk about getting better and going from week one to week two,
04:05the protection was the biggest thing that we were talking about.
04:11And when we're talking about week one to week two, how teams or NFL teams get better,
04:17that's when you have the biggest jump.
04:19And for the Giants, I believe the biggest jumps were in the protection for Russell Wilson
04:23and being able to push the ball down the field vertical.
04:27It only happens if Russ has time to cook.
04:31Obviously, it's the last play and the biggest play of the game for the Giants
04:35in terms of positive play of the game.
04:38One thing about football, you need time to throw a dime.
04:41And that's exactly what the offensive line allowed Russell Wilson to do here.
04:46We'll start with the left tackle.
04:47Marcus Bowe, up top here towards the left, handling his one-on-one, the interior.
04:54They handle a stunt and all that action and that mess up the middle.
04:59Again, Jermaine Illuminor stonewalls his edge rusher.
05:03And in the biggest moment of the game, when you know that Dallas is coming after him,
05:09Russell Wilson has the ability to step into the pocket.
05:12And the pocket is the cleanest it probably was all game.
05:17This man puts the ball almost 60 yards in the air and delivers that signature moon ball
05:24against double coverage.
05:26You see him step.
05:27Look at the pocket there.
05:28I could probably throw the ball a clean 30 yards down the field into the bucket.
05:34This is what Russell, when Joe Shane and Brian Dable brought him in,
05:38this is why they brought him in, to push the ball down the field vertically.
05:45Giants fans were just as excited as Wondell Robinson after that catch.
05:49And I would be too, because his boy Malik Neighbors finished with a buck-o-five
05:53and two touchdowns on deep balls.
05:56Wondell Robinson, who's usually a slot guy who averaged, what,
06:00around seven to eight yards per catch last year,
06:03he had a buck-o-seven on deep balls and a score.
06:06Russ is building real chemistry with these young weapons.
06:10And, yeah, he threw a pick over time.
06:13That ended it.
06:15But he also silenced all of that Jackson Dart noise
06:18and the critics who said that he was washed up.
06:21The Giants gave up one sack, one QB hit, and seven pressures throughout the day.
06:27So shout-out to the offensive line,
06:28because that was good enough for Russ to finish the day 30-for-41
06:32for 450 yards, three TDs, and the INT.
06:37If the Giants' offensive line can protect them,
06:40defense is better back up,
06:42because the moon ball is still dangerous,
06:44and danger Russ is still the moon ball.
06:47So we'll explain to Britain for
06:56Djund ģƒ brake artists
06:59in a column.
07:01Check this out for equipment
07:04andŠ¾Š²Š°Š½Šøя,
07:05we'll see
07:07if they didn't kill him specifically
07:08if they kill him
07:10and they didn't kill him physically,
07:12so that they weren't real.
07:13This oneaktor was against him
