00:00President Trump is looking to reassure foreign investors following an immigration raid at
00:05a Hyundai plant that ended with hundreds of South Korean workers being detained.
00:13The president posted on his Truth Social account letting foreign investors know they're still
00:18welcome in the U.S. He wrote, quote, I don't want to frighten off or disincentivize investment
00:25into America by outside countries or companies. We welcome them. We welcome their employees.
00:31And we are willing to proudly say we will learn from them and do even better than them at their
00:37own game sometime into the not too distant future. Well, I think he's trying to do damage control
00:43and project a more welcoming attitude towards foreign direct investment
00:54by international companies coming into the United States.
00:57I found it to be a welcoming response or welcoming message. I'm emphasizing a position that the
01:07president's long held, which is that international companies are a critical part of the U.S. economy.
01:13The South Korean workers came to the U.S. to build a $7 billion plant in Georgia that would reportedly
01:20employ thousands of Americans. The president wants foreign companies to train Americans to do the
01:27work, but that may not be as efficient for those companies. So the Korean experts have done this
01:34back in Korea. They've gotten the kinks out. They can't anticipate problems that might arise,
01:40fix those problems. Following the immigration raid, the South Korean workers returned home.
01:46Meanwhile, construction at the plant has been paused until 2026.
01:51These Korean companies, for example, are reassessing the extent to which they want to make large
02:00investments into the U.S. given the uncertainty with respect to tariffs, with respect to immigration
02:09for their skilled employees. And he's trying to work around that and trying to make sure these companies
02:17aren't scared away. We covered the raid when it first happened. You can find those details and
