00:00Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
00:06My name is Milan Breton.
00:08I was born in Taiwan.
00:10A lot of my inspiration comes from Hollywood.
00:12Very old movies.
00:13A period where women really, really dressed and were very stylized.
00:18The thing that will set me apart from the other designers is raw talent.
00:22You know, it's really, really bad feng shui to have fake flowers in your house.
00:30I'm Michael, by the way.
00:33My name is Michael Knight.
00:34I'm 28 years old and I'm from ATL, Georgia.
00:37The music industry is really big in Atlanta.
00:39So that was my way of striking it into the fashion business.
00:45Project Runway is my chance to become, excuse my French, a mother fashion star.
00:51Where are you from?
00:52Oh, all over.
00:53I'm born in Taiwan.
00:56Yeah, I don't think so.
01:00Bradley, nice to meet you, guy.
01:03I love him.
01:04Hi, Robert.
01:10My name is Laura Bennett.
01:12My background is in architecture, but my passion is in fashion.
01:18I never dress down.
01:21I think that when you're 42 years old and you have five children, it's a slippery slope
01:27into sweatpants and a minivan, so I just don't go there.
01:31Hi.
01:31Hey.
01:32My name is Angela Kessler.
01:34I live in Ohio on a farm in the middle of quote-unquote nowhere.
01:39I think that Project Runway is going to be a platform for visibility in the fashion industry.
01:45What do people do in Ohio, anyway?
01:48I've often wondered what goes on.
01:50Hi.
01:51Hi.
01:52Hi, I'm Laura.
01:53I'm Stacy.
01:54Hi, Stacy.
01:54How many fashion designers does it take to open a door?
02:01My full name is Jonathan Cain Gillespie.
02:03I am co-owner of a prom pageant boutique in Oklahoma.
02:08What is a wire hanger doing in the store?
02:10No wire hangers ever!
02:12I want to prove you can come from all different parts of the country, and you can make it in
02:18the fashion world.
02:20My name is Jeffrey Sebelia.
02:22I'm 36 years old.
02:23I've been a fashion designer, and I'm from Los Angeles.
02:25I have this clothing line called Cosa Nostra.
02:27I make clothes for rock stars like Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Jane's Addiction, No Doubt,
02:32Elton John, Marilyn Manson, Steven Tyler.
02:34There's more, but I can't remember them all right now.
02:36By my standards, I've had a lot of success in the industry, but I haven't reached the
02:40goal of success that I want to reach.
02:43What's your name?
02:44Vincent.
02:45I'm Jeff.
02:46Jeff!
02:52Hello and hello.
02:53Hi.
02:54My name is Keith Michael.
02:55I do menswear, and I've been wanting to do womenswear, but never got around to doing
03:00it.
03:00I don't expect to win every challenge.
03:04I just expect to win in the end.
03:06Hi.
03:07My name is Alison Kelly.
03:09I'm 25 years old.
03:10I started up my own label and started selling in stores.
03:13This is a photo series that I did.
03:15I styled the shoot and designed the clothes and modeled for it.
03:18I've been running like this one-woman show with very little help.
03:22The exposure that you get from Project Runway, that could really boost my career.
03:26My name is Ulrike Hertzner, but everybody calls me Uli.
03:31And I actually grew up in Germany and moved to Miami Beach.
03:36That's where I'm living right now.
03:38My name is Bonnie Dominguez.
03:40I'm 31 years old, and I've been in the athletic and footwear design world for the past 10 years.
03:46I had the opportunity to work with tennis star Serena Williams and designed all of her
03:50outfits.
03:51We got another one.
03:54Hi, nice to meet you.
03:56This is crazy.
03:56You just settled down wherever you want to be.
03:59I'm a really light sleeper, so as long as you guys don't snore, I should be good to go wherever.
04:05We have a note here.
04:07Guys, I'm opening it.
04:08Yeah, what do we got?
04:09What do we got?
04:09Designers.
04:10Welcome to your apartments, courtesy of Atlas New York.
04:13You have all been voted off.
04:15I'm kidding.
04:15It doesn't say that.
04:16Please unpack and join Tim and me on the rooftop for a celebratory toast.
04:20Love, Heidi.
04:21Woo-hoo!
04:23We're headed up to the rooftop ready to party and have a little champagne.
04:26Mm-hmm.
04:27Let's go.
04:37Hi, everybody.
04:41I'm so excited to see you all.
04:43Welcome to Project Runway.
04:44This is the rooftop of your new home.
04:47This is Atlas New York, Gotham City's luxury apartment building.
04:50And I'm sure you're going to love it.
04:52And I know you're going to love this man, too.
04:54And it's Tim Gunn of Parsons, the new school for design.
04:58And he's going to be your mentor.
04:59Woo-hoo!
05:00Welcome, everyone.
05:02The 15 of you were chosen from several thousand designers from around the country.
05:06You are an extremely talented group.
05:08And I'm thrilled to be working with you.
05:10And I think it's a good idea if we get to know each other a little bit better.
05:13And why don't we open a nice little ball of champagne?
05:16Okay.
05:18Yeah!
05:18Awesome.
05:19Bravo!
05:19Okay.
05:22Welcome, welcome.
05:26So let's have a toast to each and every one of you and to season three of Project Runway.
05:32It's so insane.
05:36You get off the plane and you get to Atlas.
05:39The next thing you do, you're toasting.
05:41It's like, here we go.
05:42I've been doing fashion for 25 years.
05:46I did not know how to handle stress and pressure well when I ran my business in New York.
05:51It was near death for me.
05:54I stopped.
05:55I surrendered.
05:56And now I'm back, cashing out of a 401k.
05:59That'll drive me to be the best designer.
06:01That's how I'm feeling anyway.
06:03I started working at Isaac Mizrahi.
06:05It was one of the best and worst experiences of my life.
06:08Did you say best and worst?
06:09Yeah.
06:09Oh, tell me.
06:10Okay, why best and why worst?
06:11Let's dish the dirt.
06:12Yeah.
06:14Working with Isaac Mizrahi taught me patience above all other things.
06:18Because at times I would want to drive a stake through that man's heart.
06:21The last 11 years of my life have been devoted to designing for a Barbie doll.
06:28With Barbie, you can put her in insanely, you know, sort of drag queen clothes.
06:32She thinks they're great.
06:33She loves them.
06:34Have you bought it with anyone yet?
06:35Pretty much everyone that I've met.
06:37Everyone's so lovely.
06:38I mean, they're friendly.
06:40For now.
06:40Stay that way.
06:42My name is Stacey Estrella.
06:44I'm 40 years old.
06:45I went to Stanford University and then I got an MBA at Harvard.
06:49And after that, I started a couple of companies.
06:52One was a dot com.
06:54And I found that after doing that for several years, what I really wanted to do was get back
06:58to my passion, which really was fashion.
07:03Okay, everybody, please come and gather around.
07:05We have a very important announcement to make.
07:09Heidi and Tim said gather around and there was a little bit of a rush in my heart.
07:13I thought, okay, this is it.
07:15You guys all settled into your new apartments, right?
07:18Yeah.
07:18How do you like your new apartment?
07:20Love them.
07:21Yes.
07:21Love it.
07:22Good.
07:23Because for your first challenge, you must use materials found in your apartment.
07:28Oh, shut up.
07:31Shut up.
07:32This first challenge, like always, is about innovation.
07:36This means that curtains, bed sheets, rugs, wall hangings, lampshades, food, furniture,
07:43all of these are the raw materials for this challenge.
07:46That was shocking.
07:47It was like, you want us to rip up our apartment?
07:49I was really excited because when I was a kid, it would have been my dream to be able to go
07:55around the house and like cut anything and make clothes out of whatever I wanted.
07:59You will create an outfit that expresses who you are as a designer.
08:04Each of you will find a black box on your bed.
08:07It contains scissors, pliers, and a laundry bag.
08:11Use these tools to source your materials.
08:13The designer who touches the object first gets it.
08:17I was irritated that the materials that we would have to use would be bed sheets and
08:22interior fabrics.
08:24I myself prefer better quality fabrics.
08:26You have 15 minutes to collect whatever you can fit into your laundry bag.
08:31And the 15 minutes start now.
08:33So good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
08:35Woohoo!
08:43Everyone was in such a rush that they, it was like cattle trying to get to a feeder.
08:54All right.
08:57I instantly knew what I wanted because I knew everything that was in that apartment.
09:09I immediately went for the fur and the sparkles.
09:12I knew if I had those in my hand, I could somehow create fabulousness.
09:19I knew immediately I wanted the cheese lounge with couch.
09:23It was brown leather with top stitching.
09:26There's a strategy here.
09:28One is offensive, which is find the stuff that you need to make your garment.
09:33But then there's the defensive strategy.
09:35Taking things just because they were still there so that others didn't take them.
09:39Angela looks like she's coming from a yard sale.
09:42Everything but the kitchen sink.
09:49I just feel like there's got to be something I missed.
09:53Oh, sweet.
09:54That was my pillowcase cover.
09:58Well, you touched it?
10:00No, it's just mine.
10:01I brought it with me.
10:02I'm a huge baby, so I travel with my own pillow.
10:06And Bradley took the pillowcase off and he's getting all excited.
10:09And I was like, that's my pillow.
10:11It was sort of irritating just to see how inappropriate people would act.
10:15I'm going to want to live here after this.
10:32I had no idea what I wanted to make.
10:44Absolutely no idea.
10:46Our work is more than cut out for us.
10:49Coming up on Project Runway.
10:56I look around the room.
10:57It's just a blur of remedial, intermediate bullshit.
11:01I want to roll this thread forward.
11:03Where's the knob for putting that?
11:04Using a basic machine is something that all the designers should know how to do, like, instantly.
11:09The challenge is to create a piece of women's wear from all of the elements of the apartment.
11:24I think everyone is having to do some serious editing of the objects they grab from the room
11:30because a hanging plant might not make it into your runway look for good reason.
11:39Hello, designers.
11:41Hi, Tim.
11:41Can I ask all of you to gather around?
11:46Welcome to Parsons, the new school for design.
11:48This is your workspace.
11:51You have until 1 a.m. tonight to finish your look.
11:55Remember to be innovative and show us who you are as a designer.
12:01We have assigned you a model for this first challenge, and that model's measurements are on your work table.
12:06One very important thing, the winner of this challenge will have immunity and therefore cannot be eliminated in the next challenge.
12:15Good luck, and make it work.
12:18Make it work.
12:22Let the drama begin.
12:24I'm completely freaking out about the time limit.
12:27I just basically want to finish a garment, and I'll be thrilled.
12:30I do a ton of pageant gowns.
12:33Normally, I deal with fabrics like silk charmeuse, silk chiffon.
12:36Obviously, a rubber doormat is a little bit of a stretch for me.
12:42I am a menswear designer, so I personally have never made a dress in my life, but I know I have it in me.
12:50I probably have the best taste here, so I think it's going to be really, really hot.
12:55I know construction, like the back of my hand.
13:01I love making clothes, so I'm not really worried.
13:04I haven't figured out who this is going to be yet.
13:08Look at all the feathers around you.
13:10Trying to get at any people who have feather allergies, take them out early.
13:13Strategic.
13:17What are you doing?
13:18You'll see if it comes through.
13:20I started designing about three years ago, so it's the first time I've used industrial sewing machines.
13:32If I want to roll this thread forward, where's the knots for sewing at?
13:35Using a basic machine is something that all the designers should know how to do, like, instantly.
13:41Stacey's like, man, these machines, they're just not working really good.
13:45And it's like, no, you just don't know how to use machines, so.
13:48I started having problems with the sewing machine, so I'm switching to hand sewing.
13:59Hi, everybody.
14:01Vincent.
14:03Do these pockets look too much like cartoons?
14:07I dig this with this.
14:09I think it's a crazy match.
14:10All right, look, if you believe in your moments, that's fine.
14:14I don't know.
14:14Poor Vincent, man.
14:15The guy is, you know, he's obviously nuts.
14:18I'm trying to work in this crazy hat, but I don't know if it works.
14:21Well, I think the basket on its own isn't enough.
14:24I had more change.
14:27Wow, good idea.
14:28It's working.
14:34So, Jeffrey.
14:35I spend most of the time with the most difficult piece at first, which is this jacket.
14:40I want to make something that isn't just different, but better than what everybody else is making.
14:46Well, I've got to get the dress, because you can't just wear a jacket.
14:49No.
14:49I don't know.
14:50I feel like this is competing with that.
14:53I just question it.
14:55All right.
14:55Carry on.
14:56Keep doing it.
14:57I had some sewing machine problems.
15:05I'm just putting this on so you can at least try to get some idea of it.
15:09When Tim came around, I was still in the middle of sewing a lot of the pieces, and he was very quiet.
15:18I don't know about those.
15:20Yeah, you think it's kind of trappy?
15:21It looks like you just want to use them.
15:23You know, the other thing I could do is possibly work them into this sash.
15:27Actually, that could be quite neat, too.
15:29Oh, that's quite special.
15:36That's not a good Tim face.
15:37Don't think you have to add just to take it over the top.
15:41Okay.
15:41Yeah, you've got to make it work.
15:43Carry on.
15:44Okay.
15:44All right?
15:48Hey, what was this?
15:50This is a bet sheet.
15:52I'm playing the part of the judges.
15:55Is it so close to fabric that this wasn't really an innovation challenge for you?
16:00I know of the people that will be judging, and some of them, I don't particularly respect their, you know, style.
16:09So, if they have criticism, maybe it'll be good, and maybe I'll just dismiss it.
16:14We'll see.
16:16I mean, I try it.
16:20Okay.
16:21At least try it.
16:25All right, everybody.
16:29You have an hour.
16:30Try to get the lion's share of what you need to get done, done tonight.
16:34I'll see you in the morning.
16:44I look around the room.
16:45It's just a blur of remedial, intermediate bullshit.
16:49I don't see any design in the room that inspires me, aside from mine.
16:54I think Jeffrey's garment is that sort of mistake of wanting to do too much, when you really need to sort of focus on the strengths and edit out what might be weak.
17:03I'm hoping to do a second layer of this skirt, but I'm just having to kind of shift my design around recognizing the time constraint.
17:22The most important thing is just getting a finished garment so that it can be walked down the runway tomorrow morning.
17:29This was our first really long, hard day of grinding work in the workroom.
17:35We were all exhausted and ready to lay down.
17:40Hello.
17:41Damn!
17:42The room is still...
17:45Are you serious?
17:46Something told me to grab that damn comforter.
17:51Oh, man!
17:51That's so f***ed up!
17:53Ridiculous!
17:54I thought that by the time we returned to the apartment, things were going to be cleaned up.
18:01I was totally pissed off.
18:03It's like a f***ed blanket!
18:05I have no quilt!
18:07Oh, my God!
18:08I have my gown!
18:09Oh!
18:11Man, I can't believe I trashed my bed.
18:13Is this going to be the whole time?
18:15Nothing had been changed or cleaned up, but I was so fried.
18:19I just wanted to sleep.
18:20I think it all sucks.
18:25Coming up on Project Runway.
18:27Let's look at this kooky hat, yeah.
18:29Vincent's model has this crazy hat on that looked like she was trying to get beamed up to Mars.
18:35Beautiful.
18:36I have a pretty strong feeling that I'm not going to be eliminated today, and I can't wait to meet my model.
18:56Models in runway shows are always the cherry on the cake.
19:00Going into the first elimination show, I feel confident.
19:03I have my own style, and it's very different than everyone else's.
19:08So, the rest will have to see what happens.
19:18All right.
19:19The night before, Tim had asked me to maybe incorporate more stuff from the apartment into the dress.
19:31So, I put, like, a placemat on it and these little ringlets.
19:34And then I slept on it, and, like, I just couldn't wait to tear that all off and go back to the original design.
19:43Sorry, Tim.
19:43I wanted it to look like a beautiful dress.
19:46I hate it.
19:47I hate it.
19:55That jacket looks so hot.
19:58It makes me think of, like, Clara Bow or something, you know?
20:01Yeah, I'm about to glue on the glamour now.
20:06All right, here it goes.
20:08I think my work is elegant.
20:10It's restrained.
20:11It's glamorous.
20:13It's very New York.
20:14Hot glue this.
20:15I swear.
20:16You don't have time.
20:17How do you want?
20:17Yeah.
20:18I'm the mirror.
20:19I needed to finish my garment so that it would be ready by the time the model arrived.
20:25Still some work to do.
20:26You think of coffee and you think gross.
20:29Like, I think gross.
20:30I think gross, too.
20:31But you look at this and you think beautiful.
20:33This looks soft and like it would smell like Febreze.
20:37Hi, everybody.
20:38Hello.
20:39How are you?
20:40I just want to make an announcement about the next three hours.
20:45Your models are going to be coming in momentarily.
20:48You will be going to the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room, the Tresemme Hair Salon, and use the
20:56Macy's Accessory Wall as well as you can.
20:58When your models come in, they are going to find you.
21:02And we're sending them in now.
21:08Welcome.
21:09Yes.
21:09Hi.
21:10How are you doing?
21:11Ken.
21:11Oh, my God.
21:13I would do that.
21:15Okay, hold on.
21:16I don't know what to do.
21:20Double-sided tape and lots of it.
21:24It is really, really sheer.
21:27Ay-yi-yi.
21:28The skirt was far too sheer to send down the runway.
21:31It would have been a little bit too provocative for my taste.
21:34So I'm adding just a nice little coquettish, sexy underwear that go underneath the skirt.
21:42Yeah, you know what?
21:42That's going to be fine.
21:44Okay, now let's look at this.
21:46Let's look at this kooky hat.
21:49Yeah, I like that.
21:51And I like these a lot.
21:52Let me look at these.
21:54I'm looking for it right now.
21:55Vincent's model had this crazy hat on that looked like she was trying to get beamed up to Mars.
22:04Liking those glasses.
22:05Let's go to the mirror, me and you.
22:06The hat just ruined the whole style and I wanted to say something to him, but he was so proud of that hat.
22:13Oh, it's a last minute touch.
22:17I have to, I don't know, I should just do this, I think.
22:19I had the makeup artist do sort of a 80s new wave makeup and then I had the stylist sculpt Jay's hair into this mohawk.
22:37I ended up being very happy with her.
22:44Now, just release her hair for me and show me something what they would look like.
22:49Just, just give me, give me, give me a quick, a quick view on this.
22:57I think that's it.
23:01It's, it's doing it.
23:02Yeah.
23:06Oh my God, yeah.
23:08Designers, can I have your attention?
23:10Yep.
23:10This is your first runway presentation and we are ready to go.
23:18So, bring your model and follow me.
23:25Coming up on Project Runway.
23:29There's a lot going on.
23:31Very unflattering fit on top.
23:33I couldn't get past the feathers.
23:35It seems a little messy.
23:36You're wondering how many drinks did she have?
23:40Welcome to the runway.
23:49As you know, in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
23:53There are 15 of you now.
23:55Three will make it to Olympus Fashion Week,
23:57where one of you will be named the winner of Project Runway.
24:01The winner will receive a spread in Elle magazine,
24:04a mentorship with Inc.
24:06International Concepts Design,
24:07a year of representation from Designers Management Agency,
24:12a brand new 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,
24:15and $100,000 to start their own line,
24:18furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
24:21Your first challenge was about innovation.
24:24We asked you to create a garment
24:25that expresses who you are as a designer,
24:28using materials found in your apartments.
24:31Let's meet the judges.
24:32First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
24:36Hey, guys.
24:38Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
24:42And sitting across from you is our guest judge,
24:45designer Kate Spade.
24:48We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
24:52The designer with the highest score will be named the winner.
24:55The winner will receive immunity for the next challenge
24:58and cannot be eliminated.
25:02Let's start the show.
25:11The runway show was surreal.
25:14Your heart is pounding.
25:15It was amazing.
25:17My entire body was smiling.
25:19I've never had a garment go down a runway.
25:33It was, like, really, really emotional for me.
25:36It was awesome.
25:37I almost cried.
25:43I thought my dress was really the prettiest dress.
25:46Mine was, like, a real dress.
25:48All the others were costuming.
25:59Everything came together so perfectly.
26:02It was just completely serendipitous.
26:04I felt like a five-year-old on Christmas Eve.
26:08I probably changed the bottom of my dress about three or four times,
26:20but I ended up making it work,
26:22and I feel really, really good about my garment.
26:24I thought that maybe the art elements of the design might be misperceived.
26:38I think I started shaking for the first time in probably 15 years.
26:43When I saw my garment coming down the runway,
26:53the only thing I could think of was,
26:55oh, my gosh, I hope her boobs don't fall out.
26:57But it looked great on her.
26:59I felt confident about my garment,
27:08but I never know what they were going to think.
27:10They could just think it was horrible.
27:11It was a lot more nerve-wracking than I expected it to be.
27:15All I was thinking was,
27:25I'm going to win a challenge, damn it.
27:27I'm going to have only a piece on that wall of fame.
27:38I don't want to go out on the first run.
27:42I was grooving on my thing.
27:43I thought it was cool.
27:44I set out to do something, and I got it done,
27:46and that's important to me.
27:57I was really thrilled, actually,
27:58with how everything turned out.
28:00So, after all the hard work and stress,
28:04it was actually a reward.
28:14I was ecstatic because I thought she just looked beautiful,
28:17and so you could see the sheerness of the skirt,
28:19and it was just so ethereal and romantic.
28:22She really just wore that dress perfectly.
28:24I was thrilled.
28:33There's not really anything that I would have changed.
28:36It came out pretty much exactly as I had hoped.
28:38When I saw my garment walking down the runway,
28:48I was really, really happy with the results,
28:50and also Katja really helped to pull it off.
28:54I think my garment is going to say,
29:06I'm a forward-thinking designer.
29:08I expect to win.
29:10I know that I'm going to win.
29:11I came to win.
29:12We've scored your designs.
29:34Will the following designers please step forward?
29:40Alison.
29:42Bradley.
29:47Angela.
29:50Kane.
29:53Milan.
29:56Bonnie.
29:58Catherine.
30:01Michael.
30:04Uli.
30:07If I have called your name,
30:10congratulations.
30:11Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
30:16Please leave the runway.
30:29The six remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores.
30:34One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
30:42Let's bring out your models.
30:43I would like to start with Laura.
30:59I first would like to know just what were the materials.
31:01I mean, I'm assuming that is the color for a rug?
31:04Um, yes, the collar and cuffs were made from a rug and the leaves came from a chandelier.
31:10It's chic and it's wearable.
31:12It's tailored nicely.
31:13I can kind of see you wearing that.
31:15I mean, it's a bit noisy.
31:17It is noisy.
31:17It's noisy.
31:18It's not for a wallflower.
31:20No.
31:21It's for the gal who wants to stand out.
31:22That's right.
31:26Vincent, I would have done it without the hat, I have to say.
31:30Can we see it once without the hat?
31:32Do you mind?
31:33I don't mind at all.
31:34I think actually the hat threw me off a little and I don't think I even looked at the dress
31:39as much as I should have.
31:40I see it much more now.
31:41I think the hat is taken away from how cute the dress is.
31:44Did you feel the hat was innovative?
31:46Is that why you added the accessories?
31:48I felt that I am very clean, classic driven, but I want to try to keep it interesting.
31:56Well, with the hat, you're wondering how many drinks did she have?
31:59To be honest with you, I'll tell you the truth, I was in question of the hat.
32:03I was in question.
32:04I truly was.
32:05Because I was, I'm not trying to get out of this.
32:08Whatever.
32:09I'm having a good time here, you know?
32:10I just, you know.
32:11I think sometimes less is more.
32:13Perhaps you're right.
32:14Keith, the first thing I thought when your dress came out, I thought it was really well
32:20made.
32:21What is it exactly?
32:22It's bedding and home accessories, but my bag was full of stuff.
32:29And like these two images came into my head.
32:32Gone with the Wind and The Carol Burnett Show.
32:36My favorite episode.
32:37Okay.
32:38You know what I'm talking about, right?
32:39And to me, the innovation here is that you can be totally broke and need to go out and
32:46look totally hot.
32:47And that's what Scarlett O'Hara did.
32:50But then like when Carol Burnett did it in the show, she looked like she was wearing
32:54a curtain rod.
32:55And I didn't want her to look like she was wearing a curtain rod.
32:58Can I see the back?
32:59Good job.
33:00And tell me about those buttons.
33:01The buttons are from a duvet cover.
33:04Adorable.
33:05This looks very believable.
33:07I think it's very chic.
33:08There's no joke to it at all.
33:09Exactly.
33:10Thanks.
33:11Stacy, what is your design aesthetic?
33:18What is your personality?
33:20I mean, as a designer, I first look at the silhouette.
33:22That's very important to me that there's something that's sensuous about it.
33:26And I made a little panty so that there is that provocative little flare.
33:31I have to say it makes it a little naughty, but then it's how-
33:34I never like that.
33:35But then how wearable is it?
33:36Why are you wearing?
33:37Now, do you really want people to see your big step in briefs?
33:40That's what I'm saying.
33:41It's not really that wearable then.
33:42People think it's a mistake.
33:43To me, it kind of looks like you ran out of time and couldn't figure it out rather than
33:49making something look believably finished.
33:52It was an ambitious undertaking.
33:54I mean, I think the idea is nice.
33:56The idea of the execution.
33:57It's the execution of it.
33:59I mean, I think it seems as though it was a little-
34:01A brush.
34:02A little messy.
34:03And it's a very unflattering fit on top.
34:06It fits her like the pillows are still in the pillowcase.
34:12Robert, do you want to tell us a little bit about your dress?
34:15Certainly.
34:16It's made out of a duvet cover, fitted bed sheets, and some silver wall hangings.
34:22And I transformed it to the straps.
34:24And it's a little bit of a Maria from West Side Story.
34:27If she had, like, wall hangings.
34:29Can we see from the back?
34:30Mm-hmm.
34:31So pretty.
34:32The back is really pretty.
34:33I like sort of surprise details like that, too, where from the front coming, she's one
34:38way, and from the back, it's sort of-
34:39Yeah, it's very three-dimensional.
34:40And you don't have to wear any jewelry.
34:42You're already done.
34:43You're done.
34:44Have jewelry.
34:45We'll travel.
34:46It's charming.
34:48Jeffrey, tell us a little bit about your outfit.
34:51I don't even know where to begin.
34:52There's a lot going on.
34:53There's a lot going on.
34:54Yeah.
34:55You're like, I don't even know where to begin.
34:56Start at the outer layer and work your way down.
34:58There's a lot going on.
34:59Start with the feathers.
35:00I was a production designer for a long time.
35:01Yeah.
35:02I like shows.
35:03I love putting on shows.
35:04I actually think the feathers, strangely enough, distracted from the outfit.
35:07Absolutely distracted.
35:08I feel like both pieces together, there was a lot going on.
35:13I started in this business making jackets, so I thought, I'm going to make a motorcycle
35:20rock and roll cut jacket.
35:21And I wanted to show you all a dress doing this reconstructed thing.
35:26To see the dress without the jacket, I have a better understanding of what you were
35:31going for.
35:32Together, it made it seem messy.
35:33Yeah.
35:34Together, it was like-
35:35I couldn't even tell what it was to be honest.
35:36Yeah.
35:37There was a lot of different lengths.
35:38In the front, it was really long.
35:39It was shredded, short in the back.
35:41I just think that's sexy.
35:42I kind of like, from the side, I really, and this is the reason that I did her hair
35:47this way, I just kind of, maybe some subconscious influence of animation that I'm into or whatever
35:54it is, but when I looked at the design of it, I just really like the way it looks.
35:58You have to explain a lot for us to understand what it all meant.
36:01I had a lot going through my head.
36:03I think you have to be careful.
36:05If you do put a lot of layers into the clothes, which obviously you do, you don't have to
36:10go in for the overkill.
36:14Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
36:16We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back onto the runway.
36:21My favorite was Keith and Robert.
36:38I mean, I will say that, you know, Robert's dress, I thought was very charming.
36:43The back was really pretty.
36:44Really, like, modern.
36:46And it fit amazing.
36:47It fit beautifully.
36:48The necklaces were heaven.
36:49Keith's overall presentation.
36:50The hair with the beads.
36:51The whole thing.
36:52I love the buttons in the back.
36:53Yeah, yeah.
36:54The minute she turned the corner, she turned you on.
36:55Yeah.
36:56It was emotional.
36:57So let's talk about Laura.
36:58Oh, I love that coat.
36:59Yes, she thought about it.
37:00It was her personality.
37:01She did get creative using the rug.
37:02The funny thing is, as soon as she walked out, I said, oh, that's so her.
37:19Yeah.
37:20Vincent.
37:21I have to say, when I walked out, the hat took me so off, I think I focused more on how
37:28much I didn't like the hat.
37:29much I didn't like the hat when he said well I was afraid it would be boring you've got to just go
37:34for it because he ended up sticking that crazy basket on her head Stacy's it was all over the
37:43place her idea I kind of understood where it was going it could have been very pretty I just don't
37:47think she executed it well I look like she took this white sheets from her bed and just I mean
37:51yes she did and she took the shower curtain but I couldn't really tell then a big boy short on
37:56it is like oh yeah you're alluring wearing your grandma's panties Jeffrey first when I saw him I
38:05was like oh no we have another sentino someone that does everything shredded and undone I mean
38:11I have to say when I initially thought I thought it seemed just messy I never understand this whole
38:15thing about dresses short in the back and long enough I didn't get that either we know what
38:23we're doing yeah let's call them back out the six of you represent the best and the worst one of
38:39you will be named the winner and one of you will be out the six of you represent the best and the worst
38:53one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out Laura you're in you can leave the runway
39:09thank you
39:39this was the first dress that I've ever made and I won it's cool come on give it up
39:47Robert you're in
39:56Vincent you're in you can leave the runway
40:04Stacy
40:16Stacy
40:16Jeffrey one of you will be out
40:21Jeffrey you tried to do too much the result was distracting and unfocused and the two pieces did
40:33not go together Stacy you didn't choose innovative materials you could have saved it with execution but you
40:46you failed there too
40:47Stacy you're out
40:48Jeffrey that means you're in you can leave the runway
40:53Stacy you're out Jeffrey that means you're in you can leave the runway
41:01Stacy Stacy you're out
41:03Steeds suicidal
41:05Stacy you're out of my way
41:14Stacy I really don't stand my dislike
41:19ัั‚ะฒะฐ
41:20yourself
41:21feeling was the design that I made was absolutely true to who I am as a designer and that's what I
41:27wanted to send down the runway. Somebody had to go and it was really tough. Stacey, you need to
41:33go up to the workroom and clean up your space. What's next for Stacey Estrella? I don't know.
41:38I believe that there are no accidents. Every experience you have takes you to the next one
41:45and you don't always know what doors it's going to open.
