00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:19Today, we're all about the 2025 VW Golf GTI and why the American version has slightly less power than its European counterpart.
00:27The Golf GTI recently received a facelift in Europe, which, among other things, brought a power boost to 261hp.
00:35But in the USA, it will remain at the previous 241hp.
00:40We asked VW why this is the case.
00:43According to Mark Giles, Volkswagen's press spokesman, the decision is due to the stricter emissions regulations in the USA.
00:50In order to offer the additional 20hp of the EA 880 engine there, VW would have had to completely rework the exhaust system.
00:59An expense that the company did not consider justified.
01:02That's why the US version of the GTI will remain at 241hp, while Europe and other markets can look forward to the more powerful version.
01:11But that's not all.
01:15The Golf GTI Club Sport with a whopping 296hp and 400Nm of torque will also not make the leap across the pond.
01:22This more powerful model with its exclusively built 7-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive is reserved for European roads.
01:32There is a small consolation in the US in the form of the Golf Air, which is now just as powerful as in Europe with 328hp, but is also only available with a DSG transmission.
01:45It is also interesting to look into the future of the Golf.
01:49The current 8th generation could have an exceptionally long lifespan due to the EU's plans to ban the sale of new cars with combustion engines by 2035.
01:59At the same time, it has already been confirmed that the next generation will be released exclusively as an electric car.
02:08This means that the combustion engine Golf and its electric successor will share the stage for several years.
02:14In the US, however, the range remains limited.
02:19Apart from the GTI, there are only the Golf A variants such as the practical Golf A estate or cheaper versions with smaller engines, diesel or hybrid drives, which are still available in Europe, but you will look in vain for them.
02:33Even the 6-speed manual transmission is still available for some European models, while the DSG remains in America.
