00:00:00the every talent's got everyone wants to win
00:00:04crazy gang have beaten the culture club
00:00:06this is the moment of joy that all professional footballers hope for
00:00:30good evening Halloween may be over but the FA Cup still has plenty of shocks and
00:00:35scares we have got the best of the action from the first round on the way as
00:00:39clubs from the EFL join the long road to Wembley goals from 39 ties to squeeze
00:00:44into the next 90 minutes all in the company of Danny Weber and Dion Dublin the
00:00:49lowest ranked team at this stage are Malden and Tiptree of the Isthmian League
00:00:52North Division they travel to League One Port Vale who were without a win in four
00:00:56in the league so could the jammers create a sticky situation for the EFL side
00:01:00Jonathan Pierce was watching outcome the players into bright sunshine at Vale Park
00:01:07which has seen many a cup upset with Port Vale the winning side over the years
00:01:12today the boot is on the other foot they played against Arsenal earlier on this
00:01:17season and they tried to raise their game and Darren Moore said they need to learn
00:01:22from the example of Arsenal and how to beat minnows that night as they take on the
00:01:28minnows here
00:01:31Darren Moore a wonderful playing career really 668 games made the most of the
00:01:38talent he had Jamaican international that's a poor clearance away opportunity
00:01:43for Cameron James to get the cross in 1-0 to the underdogs and Anisius Lewis puts them ahead
00:01:50poor defending possession turned over very quickly lovely early crossing and Lewis first
00:01:59to react for Kevin Horlock's side it's a lovely whip crossing acres of space in the
00:02:06middle for Lewis 1-0 to Morden and Tiptrick dreamland
00:02:13well this would be the shock of the round Connor Hall another with a Colchester United
00:02:21link
00:02:25it's a decent effort and it's 1-1
00:02:29really good shot on the turn by Rory Payton
00:02:34that's a smashing goal to level it up that'll settle their nerves
00:02:39Irish youth international showed a little bit of class there
00:02:43oh they're glad all over for the moment suddenly the game has a different complexion
00:02:53gonna get the crossing through Marvin Johnson Cole holds it up comes back there to Rhys waters
00:03:01Cole into the box it's two volleying in splendidly by George Hall
00:03:06two goals in quick succession opening up the non-league defence there's the vision of Cole he knew where George
00:03:16Hall was served up a lovely cross
00:03:20they're still in Williams
00:03:24strong in this FA Cup meandering campaign for Morden but they're up against it here now
00:03:31comes to Payton another big giant sidesteps a defender and they're cruising now
00:03:37it's 3-1 and they've scored three and three
00:03:41suddenly gone up through the gears and the Isthmian League Northern Division side can't cope with this
00:03:47Payton holding his run finding the space a little bit of composure fine finish 3-1 Port Vail
00:03:53well they're determined to enjoy the day out he won't though with his defending like that
00:04:01Chessie Debra played international football for Barawa that's the team made up of Somali players this is a lovely move
00:04:11move again comes back to Cole and a really tight finish it's four for Port Vail
00:04:17again exploiting the spaces in the wide positions and once it comes in from that wide position
00:04:24they are finishing in devastating fashion five home league goals before today they've scored four in the opening half of this match
00:04:34Clipped in by Johnson now Rhys Walters
00:04:40Payton shoot shoot by the crowd to George Byers
00:04:45and he gets a shot away and the fingers of Elliot Justin push it out for a corner
00:04:49on the cruise into the Morden and Tiptree half the defensive midfield of the non-leaguers is melting away
00:05:00Cameron Humphries
00:05:05Byers helped it on
00:05:07coming across to cover was Jack call it
00:05:11we're into the last 90 seconds of the half
00:05:15pinged in
00:05:20decent header clear at the near post
00:05:24that's a fine effort and a good save
00:05:26smart stop pressure is still on Payton and he has to save again
00:05:32that's a smart effort on the half turn by Debra
00:05:40it's a decent save and then the follow-up
00:05:43nicked through slight deflection took the sting out of it easier save that one
00:05:46stretchers couldn't get there but held the ball off against
00:05:54the challenge of Dylan Williams
00:05:56and he's on hand now if they can play the ball to Cole
00:05:59little bit head down George Hall
00:06:01picked up by Byers
00:06:03Cole is in at the near post
00:06:04just behind Mo Fowl
00:06:05he's still alive
00:06:07the ball back to Payton
00:06:08and that hat-trick will not come for him
00:06:10deflected wide again
00:06:12he's had eight efforts Payton in the game
00:06:15didn't perhaps catch it as well as he might have
00:06:17he'll take the corner
00:06:19Cole is at the back post
00:06:22area it's in he got the last touch
00:06:24Byers will want to claim the goal
00:06:26but Cole got the last touch
00:06:27it's five
00:06:29and on by Byers
00:06:32and Cole I don't think he knew much about it to be honest
00:06:34just lifted up
00:06:36that left boot
00:06:37came off his calf
00:06:38and it's five for Port Vale
00:06:40they came to enjoy the day
00:06:44I think everyone involved with Maldon Tiptree has done just that
00:06:48but they have been outclassed and Port Vale
00:06:50thoroughly deserve this
00:06:52it's Curtis
00:06:56decent defending by James
00:07:01and that's glued on the ball
00:07:02another corner kick though for Port Vale
00:07:03bunching around the goalkeeper
00:07:08but they have the six
00:07:11and it's Jesse Debra who gets it
00:07:14was the most physical in there
00:07:16wanting it more
00:07:18I think they've had a chat about that
00:07:21goal
00:07:22you don't know what you're doing was a cry from the
00:07:25from the fans
00:07:26Debra's
00:07:27header in stoppage time
00:07:29ruled out for a foul I think
00:07:32I actually thought that the goal probably after six minutes woke us up
00:07:36so it actually woke us up, it woke the arena up, it woke the team up
00:07:39and you've seen the reaction after that for the next probably 20 minutes, half an hour
00:07:43but I said to the players it shouldn't have got to that situation to wake up
00:07:47because we should have managed the situation better
00:07:49so credit to them for scoring the goal
00:07:52but certainly it gave us the jolt that we needed to go and get the goals
00:07:57I thought we had them on the ropes first five minutes
00:07:59but we scored 85 minutes probably too soon
00:08:02we poked the bear and they come alive
00:08:04but it was a magical moment for us
00:08:06and you start dreaming and believing
00:08:08but fair play to them
00:08:09they're a good side
00:08:10and asked a lot of questions of us
00:08:12and we retreated
00:08:13and we got deeper
00:08:14and then obviously their quality showed
00:08:16they scored quick succession goals
00:08:18and it put us on the back foot
00:08:19and then it become a very difficult afternoon for us
00:08:21If we've got an FA Cup game you want to try to get as far as you can in a competition
00:08:24and you know see in terms of if we can get another big draw like an Arsenal
00:08:28or keep progressing on to later rounds
00:08:30but yeah I think you can obviously take the good stuff from these games
00:08:34but all in all it needs to change in the league in terms of the ruthlessness that we had today
00:08:39And Rory Payton had a very good game
00:08:42we'll come onto that very shortly
00:08:4399 league places separating these two sides
00:08:46good evening to Danny and Dion
00:08:48great to see you
00:08:49professional job done by Baudville
00:08:51Yeah and I think he's right
00:08:53they were on the ropes
00:08:54first five minutes they were on the ropes
00:08:56I think Moulding started absolutely fantastic
00:08:58and Darren Moore you know he's an honest manager
00:09:01listen we got caught on the back foot
00:09:03and we needed that bit of a shake up
00:09:05and as soon as they got shook up a little bit you've seen the quality rose to the top
00:09:10Yeah and you have picked out Rory Payton as the star man Danny
00:09:13Yeah I think Rory Payton was everything good about Port Vale in the first half
00:09:16I think he was bright
00:09:17he was on the front foot
00:09:19and took his opportunities
00:09:20you heard in his interview that he really wants to get to the next round
00:09:23he mentioned Arsenal
00:09:24as somebody he sees in his sights
00:09:26but his performance was really good
00:09:27he epitomised the front foot nature
00:09:31that Darren Moore likes in his teams
00:09:33you look at here he's just peeling away
00:09:35trying to find a half a yard
00:09:36and he's got really tidy feet
00:09:38and spins and doesn't think twice
00:09:40puts a great finish past
00:09:42past the goalkeeper
00:09:43and then this one is a run into the box
00:09:44he's got his arm up
00:09:45but it's a great first touch
00:09:46sets him up
00:09:47a little dummy there
00:09:48and has the presence of mind and quick feet
00:09:51and this is a chance shortly after that
00:09:54again in the first half
00:09:55he just snatches at that one
00:09:56and you think after he'd done so well
00:09:58that he'd have taken it
00:10:00but he was bright
00:10:01yeah he got
00:10:03he got ran close for the hat-trick as well
00:10:05because Devante Cole
00:10:06just you know
00:10:07doing
00:10:08what his dad would have done
00:10:10getting in those correct positions
00:10:11I mean yeah
00:10:12now that is
00:10:13that is
00:10:14that's his dad all day long
00:10:15just being in the right position
00:10:16Andy Cole would have done exactly that
00:10:18where's the ball going to bounce
00:10:19you know he's a chip off the old block
00:10:20and they just showed very sort of
00:10:22calmness and professionalism
00:10:24when they had the ball
00:10:25and we have to say Dion as well
00:10:26well done to Maldon and Tiptree
00:10:27they had to win six matches to get to this position
00:10:30their journey started on the 2nd of August
00:10:32when I think the three of us were on a beach somewhere
00:10:34when they beat Buckhurst Hill 5-0 in the extra preliminary round
00:10:38it has been some journey
00:10:40but those opening five minutes as Kevin Horlog said
00:10:42they were in it for those five minutes
00:10:44and what a fantastic start
00:10:45yeah they were
00:10:46and they made a great start
00:10:47I think it was
00:10:48you know Lewis who got the first goal
00:10:50it was
00:10:51a great front
00:10:52again look at that
00:10:53how they're closing down
00:10:54you know Cameron James
00:10:55doesn't think twice
00:10:56puts the ball in the box
00:10:57and Port Vale can't recover
00:10:58they're in good possession
00:10:59but if you just watch
00:11:01here
00:11:02he looks forward
00:11:03Inicius Lewis
00:11:04keeps his eye on the ball
00:11:05it's a lovely cushion finish
00:11:06yeah I think that's the key
00:11:07you liked that finish didn't you?
00:11:08yes it's the key to it
00:11:09me and Dan
00:11:10you know would have done exactly the same
00:11:11it's like a golf shot
00:11:12you just don't look up
00:11:13don't lift your head
00:11:14keep your eye on the ball
00:11:15good connection
00:11:16goal's not going to move
00:11:17it's an old saying
00:11:18they look good for five minutes
00:11:19well done to Port Vale
00:11:22Carlisle United flying high
00:11:24in the National League
00:11:25made the long trip south yesterday
00:11:26to take on League One
00:11:27Reading
00:11:28Patrick Geary
00:11:29picks up the story
00:11:34these two clubs are well used to
00:11:35football's ups and downs
00:11:37Reading have gone from the Premier League
00:11:38to the financial brink
00:11:40while Carlisle United
00:11:41suffered two relegations in a row
00:11:43to drop out of the league last season
00:11:45all set then for a cup tie of
00:11:47wild swings in momentum
00:11:49corner swirled in towards the back post
00:11:53looking to get the head on to it
00:11:54Reading appealing
00:11:55shot goes towards goal
00:11:56Carlisle will try and get out
00:11:57towards the next contact
00:11:58edge of the penalty area
00:11:59swept towards goal
00:12:00and into the back of the net
00:12:01passed home absolutely delightfully
00:12:03Harry Breed
00:12:04Harry Lewis could only watch
00:12:05turn and watch it go
00:12:08crossing position again
00:12:09here it comes right foot
00:12:10in towards goal
00:12:11Epatia Mahan with it
00:12:12oh what a save Harry Lewis
00:12:13absolutely ridiculous save
00:12:15Epatia Mahan got onto it
00:12:16with a really good header
00:12:17really good header
00:12:18and the save was brilliant
00:12:20from Harry Lewis
00:12:24Con Clarke good running
00:12:25into the left-hand channel
00:12:26of the area
00:12:27shot towards goal
00:12:28just beyond the back post
00:12:29elegant excellent
00:12:32ball forwards for Reading
00:12:33trying to find a gap
00:12:34at Carlisle United
00:12:35they've got a bit of space
00:12:36for their winger out on that
00:12:37right-hand side
00:12:38chop back to the man who made the pass
00:12:39here Doyle edge of the area
00:12:40clips into the middle
00:12:41man totally free
00:12:42and it's the second goal
00:12:43Carlisle I don't quite know
00:12:44how Mahoney got so free in there
00:12:46I really don't
00:12:47and it just
00:12:48ranked not good enough
00:12:55ball in towards goal
00:12:56header at the near post
00:12:57managed to get it away
00:12:58I don't know if they've hit the post
00:12:59and then the second follow-up
00:13:00thrash goes over the bar
00:13:01takes the shot
00:13:06breaks towards Lilley
00:13:07big chance
00:13:08scores!
00:13:09Carlisle United on it
00:13:10took a deflection
00:13:11dropped to Lilley

00:13:16of eight minutes
00:13:17timeout and on
00:13:18and we do get the grandstand finish
00:13:22is there another chance left in this game?

00:13:25forwards come Reading
00:13:26Carlisle head away through Hayden

00:13:32has Lilley to the left-hand side
00:13:33the magic man for Carlisle United
00:13:35can he find another
00:13:36shot towards goal
00:13:37it's gone in
00:13:38Regan Lilley
00:13:39some help through the goalkeeper
00:13:4113 goals
00:13:43is it for the season for him now?
00:13:45and unbelievably
00:13:47Carlisle in stoppage time
00:13:49at the end of this FA Cup first round tie
00:13:51have drawn level with Reading of League One
00:13:54little pass round the corner
00:13:56clever from Reading
00:13:57good link up play
00:13:58coming towards the edge of the penalty area
00:13:59stab forwards
00:14:00Sfini cuts it out
00:14:01as Sfini does
00:14:02passed away down the right-hand side
00:14:03now
00:14:04and Carlisle coming forwards with Wern
00:14:05has Con Clarke inside him
00:14:06back post Lilley and Kelly arriving

00:14:37to going through
00:14:39unbelievable
00:14:40ready to Carlisle 3
00:14:41that was Liam Richardson's first game as Reading manager

00:14:52what a comeback for Carlisle United
00:14:54delighted to say
00:14:55that yesterday's hat-trick hero Regan Lilley
00:14:58joins us now live here on Match of the Day
00:15:00Regan good evening to you
00:15:01great to see you
00:15:02you must be absolutely buzzing
00:15:04how are you feeling today?
00:15:05yeah to be honest I'm buzzing
00:15:07I'm still buzzing from yesterday
00:15:09it was a special
00:15:11it was a special
00:15:12three points
00:15:13I mean
00:15:14crumbled
00:15:15crumbled yeah
00:15:16it was a cup game
00:15:17that's right
00:15:18it was the FA Cup
00:15:19yeah yeah
00:15:20don't worry
00:15:21it's live television
00:15:22don't you worry about it
00:15:23don't you worry about it
00:15:24but in many ways
00:15:25it's a fantastic comeback
00:15:27what did Mark Hughes say to you at half time?
00:15:30to be honest I wasn't in there at half time
00:15:32I was out on the pitch
00:15:33but I'm sure he was just getting the lads up for it
00:15:35and he said he was going to make changes
00:15:37and that's what he did and that's when I managed to come on
00:15:39yeah so Mark has said Regan's been doing that all season
00:15:42no surprise anymore
00:15:43the kid's got something
00:15:44as soon as he gets half a yard
00:15:46he's able to get so much power in his shots
00:15:48lovely words from a true legend
00:15:51yeah I'm loving working under the gaffer
00:15:53and obviously playing with the lads as well
00:15:56and obviously scoring a hat-trick against a league one outfit
00:15:59was a special feeling for me
00:16:00obviously Regan you've started the first hour on the bench
00:16:03were you watching from the sideline
00:16:05because we're looking at your movement
00:16:06and you've managed to find space in different ways
00:16:09on each of your goals
00:16:10was that something you saw from the sideline
00:16:12and thought you could bring into the game?
00:16:15I'm a confident player at the moment
00:16:17so if I get opportunities
00:16:18I'm confident that I can take them
00:16:20so I was hoping that I'd get in various situations
00:16:23with full backs
00:16:24with other players as well
00:16:25and hopefully take them
00:16:27and that's what I've done
00:16:28I've managed to score one
00:16:30and once I scored one
00:16:32I spoke to I think Callum Whelan
00:16:34and Chris Conclarty said
00:16:36if you get another chance
00:16:37I know you'll finish that as well
00:16:38and that's what I ended up doing
00:16:40We're just watching your goals now Regan
00:16:42and what I was impressed with is
00:16:45how you kind of leave the space in front of you
00:16:48so the ball can be played for you
00:16:50not to you
00:16:51you never get in that position too early
00:16:53you seem to play on instinct
00:16:55Yeah, I think I do play on instinct
00:16:58I just try, like I just said
00:16:59I just try and get myself in situations
00:17:01and create space for myself
00:17:04and obviously I managed to score three yesterday
00:17:07I feel very old mate
00:17:09because I've played with your gaffer
00:17:11What kind of things have you taken from him?
00:17:15because having played with him
00:17:16I know how good he is as a centre forward
00:17:19I know how good he is as a talker
00:17:21what specifically have you got from
00:17:24a world class striker like your boss?
00:17:28He just tells me to express myself
00:17:31he's always on us as a front four
00:17:33to get in opportunities
00:17:35and create space for ourselves
00:17:36and obviously get as many shots off as we can
00:17:39because the more times you shoot
00:17:41then there's a possibility that you're going to score
00:17:43so that's what we do
00:17:44Dion's made me feel really old
00:17:46he played with him
00:17:47I watched Sparky play for Wales
00:17:48in the 80s
00:17:49in the 80s
00:17:50you make me feel really old
00:17:51but also Regan
00:17:52just before you go
00:17:53you want to go on a good cup run of course
00:17:55who do you follow?
00:17:56who would you love potentially
00:17:57in the third round if you get there?
00:18:01Liverpool probably
00:18:02that would be a big one for me
00:18:04Liverpool, yeah
00:18:05Yeah, and one final question
00:18:06we all want to know
00:18:07where's the match ball?
00:18:08because if we'd scored a hat-trick in the cup
00:18:10in dramatic circumstances
00:18:11we'd have it ready to show
00:18:12the viewers on Match of the Day
00:18:13where is it?
00:18:14I'm going to be honest
00:18:15it's still in my car
00:18:16brilliant stuff
00:18:20well Regan
00:18:21best wishes to you
00:18:22keep it going
00:18:23and say a very well done
00:18:25to Mark Hughes as well
00:18:26give him our regards
00:18:27thank you so much
00:18:28Good luck
00:18:29well done Regan
00:18:30thank you very much indeed
00:18:31congratulations to Carlisle United
00:18:33five other National League sides
00:18:34were looking to get the better
00:18:35of their EFL counterparts yesterday
00:18:37including Gateshead
00:18:38who took on AFC Wimbledon
00:18:39of League One
00:18:40the FA Cup is carved into Wimbledon's identity
00:18:45the crazy gang were the ultimate underdogs
00:18:48so they'd have recognised something about
00:18:50non-league Gateshead's methods
00:18:52defend strong
00:18:53and then when you can
00:18:55spring into action
00:18:56in just a few passes
00:18:57and a few short seconds
00:18:59Kane Adam was away
00:19:01breathless
00:19:02ruthless football
00:19:03in the past quarter of a century
00:19:05Gateshead have had ten cracks at league teams
00:19:07and lost all of them
00:19:09but they've found a formula
00:19:10another break
00:19:11and though Dons keeper Nathan Bishop saved
00:19:14Fenton John was in just the right place
00:19:16to score the second
00:19:18and ultimately down the Dons
00:19:20on a famous afternoon
00:19:22for Gateshead
00:19:27Exeter City made the long journey north
00:19:29and saw a well-travelled defender score
00:19:31a stunning first goal for the club
00:19:33against FC Halifax town
00:19:35he delivers it towards the back post
00:19:37Vrieshans and he's running in
00:19:39Danny Andrew
00:19:40and it's the league one side who take the lead
00:19:43Vrieshans boss Gary Caldwell
00:19:45once lifted the cup with Wigan
00:19:46and his side safely avoided a potential slip here
00:19:49that's a loose pass out of the back from Halifax
00:19:51here's Akeel Higgins
00:19:52fed by Browley
00:19:53back towards Browley again
00:19:54good save by the core keeper
00:19:56Jadon Wimbledon
00:19:57ends it in
00:19:58Exeter enjoyed a cup adventure
00:20:00as far as round four last season
00:20:02they're up and running again
00:20:0644 league places and around 40 miles
00:20:08separate these two Yorkshire sides
00:20:10York took more than 2,500 fans to Oakwell
00:20:13and certainly gave them something to cheer about
00:20:15Banks puts across it to Vapas
00:20:17Stokes to the header
00:20:18and he's got it!
00:20:19Judge Stokes gets his goal
00:20:23York City take the lead
00:20:25they deserve
00:20:27but Barnsley came back to the slight disappointment
00:20:29of the commentator
00:20:30that's a nice ball from Cleary
00:20:32into the penalty area
00:20:33Barnsley man still got it
00:20:34tight angle
00:20:35pulls it middle of the goal
00:20:36gonna shoot and they're gonna score at Barnsley
00:20:37and it was an easy tap in from six yards
00:20:39then they took the lead
00:20:41to Ferugia
00:20:42he'll put a left footed cross in
00:20:43no he keeps hold of it
00:20:44round the corner it goes
00:20:45laid off back to him
00:20:46the edge of the box
00:20:47now he tries to dink it through
00:20:48they're throwing goal
00:20:49and they're gonna score
00:20:50he took that goal really really well
00:20:51the kilo done
00:20:52but his mood picked up
00:20:53here comes Alexan
00:20:54right footed
00:20:55round the wall
00:20:56the goalkeeper
00:20:57oh what a block on the line
00:20:58for Pearce
00:20:59there it is
00:21:00it's the equaliser
00:21:01York City deserved
00:21:02into the roof of the net
00:21:04it's 2-2
00:21:05but the home side
00:21:06would not be denied
00:21:08and it comes now
00:21:09into the penalty area
00:21:10freehead overscored
00:21:11and once again
00:21:12Barnsley have taken the lead
00:21:13in injury time
00:21:18Scunthorpe United second
00:21:19in the National League
00:21:20travelled to Blackpool
00:21:21confident of causing an upset
00:21:23it was a league one side
00:21:24who took an early lead
00:21:25through Ashley Fletcher
00:21:27it was a lead they almost
00:21:28conspired to surrender
00:21:29as panic took hold
00:21:30in a farcical series
00:21:32of back passes
00:21:33poor touches
00:21:34and missed challenges
00:21:35somehow the ball
00:21:36was scrambled clear
00:21:37to ensure back to back
00:21:38wins for new boss
00:21:39Ian Evatt
00:21:40in his pre-match program notes
00:21:45the Boreham Wood chairman
00:21:46harked back
00:21:47to a previous meeting
00:21:48between these two
00:21:49in 2006
00:21:50when his side
00:21:51had pulled off an upset
00:21:52to win in the FA Trophy
00:21:54both have come a long way
00:21:55since then
00:21:56but could they do it again?
00:21:57well they started strongly
00:21:58with just nine minutes
00:21:59on the clock
00:22:00Matt Rush slotted the ball home
00:22:02just a few minutes later
00:22:04a poor challenge
00:22:05on the edge of the box
00:22:06by the Crawley captain
00:22:07Dion Conroy
00:22:08led to a penalty
00:22:09which Zac Brunt
00:22:10calmly stroked into the net
00:22:11the 20-25 version
00:22:13of the upset
00:22:14was on
00:22:15Crawley's miserable
00:22:16afternoon got worse
00:22:17Ryan Loft saw red
00:22:19before half time
00:22:21a lovely curling shot
00:22:22from Abdul Abdul Malik
00:22:24wrapped up a famous win
00:22:25and wrote a new tale
00:22:26of giant killing
00:22:27for their chairman to recall
00:22:28in years to come
00:22:30well over this FA Cup weekend
00:22:35we have seen some cracking goals
00:22:37we're going to pick out some
00:22:38from Boreham Wood
00:22:39I think Dion as well
00:22:40especially from Matt Rush
00:22:41and Abdul Abdul Malik
00:22:42yeah just
00:22:43really calm actually
00:22:44under the pressure
00:22:45of the FA Cup as well
00:22:46just
00:22:47finding your corner
00:22:49not panicking
00:22:50just you know
00:22:51picking your spot
00:22:52keeper had no chance
00:22:53I mean he's only
00:22:54a couple of yards away
00:22:55but he did take his time
00:22:56and this one here
00:22:57I would have finished this
00:22:58in exactly the same way
00:22:59he doesn't think
00:23:00he doesn't think
00:23:01let me take a touch
00:23:02he knows what he's going to do
00:23:03there's a big area to hit
00:23:04you know
00:23:05Abdul Malik
00:23:06just sticks it in the corner
00:23:07keeping no chance
00:23:08really good finish
00:23:09great finish
00:23:10also let's talk about
00:23:11Gateshead as well Danny
00:23:12Kane Aydon
00:23:1310th goal of the season
00:23:147-7 for Aydon
00:23:15he's on a bit of a run
00:23:16yeah he's really bright
00:23:17you know
00:23:18if you look at the goal
00:23:19when it comes in to him
00:23:20you see the clearance here
00:23:22he flicks it on
00:23:23but then it's the intention
00:23:24he runs with
00:23:25he runs
00:23:26sets the intention
00:23:27and nookie points
00:23:28yeah brilliant
00:23:29it sets him up
00:23:30and I think
00:23:31I half think he's going
00:23:32the other side
00:23:33but you know
00:23:34in fairness to him
00:23:35I take 20 of those a season
00:23:36hold on a second
00:23:37it's a big moment
00:23:38on match of the day
00:23:39no
00:23:40and you turn round and go
00:23:41I think he's gone for the other side
00:23:42he's put it in the back of the net
00:23:43you've got to give him his credit
00:23:44you take 20 a season
00:23:45he's on a run
00:23:46great stuff
00:23:47thank you very much indeed
00:23:48well
00:23:49non-league Eastleigh
00:23:50no strangers to a first round
00:23:51giant killing
00:23:52the Spitfires
00:23:53took out the Royals
00:23:54Reading that is
00:23:55at this stage two years ago
00:23:56could they repeat the trick
00:23:57when they hosted
00:23:58League 2 leaders
00:23:59Walsall this afternoon
00:24:00Matty Upson
00:24:01joined Mark Scott
00:24:02in the commentary box
00:24:03for this one
00:24:04Eastleigh boss
00:24:05Scott Bartlett
00:24:06says his side
00:24:07have a great chance
00:24:08of beating Walsall today
00:24:09and he doesn't think
00:24:10a massive upset
00:24:11given the experience
00:24:12he has in his ranks
00:24:13Jordan Cousins
00:24:14a prime example
00:24:15of that
00:24:16the Spitfires captain
00:24:17with over 300 EFL
00:24:19appearances under his belt
00:24:21Walsall have a former
00:24:22Eastleigh man in their ranks
00:24:23in Kenya
00:24:24International
00:24:25Vincent Harper
00:24:26while Kanu
00:24:27and Presley
00:24:28have been blossoming
00:24:29up top for them
00:24:30with both having
00:24:31four goals each
00:24:32for the Saddlers
00:24:33so far this season
00:24:34Evan Weir
00:24:43and here is Kanu
00:24:45Lakin
00:24:49that's behind
00:24:51for a Walsall corner
00:24:53the referees going across here
00:24:56but also there's some
00:24:57treatment needed for
00:24:59Jordan Cousins
00:25:00who's on the deck
00:25:01at the moment
00:25:02looks like they're going to be forced
00:25:04into
00:25:05an early change here
00:25:08with Kieran Evans
00:25:10coming on for Cousins
00:25:11and this is a hammer blow
00:25:13for Eastleigh
00:25:20so taken
00:25:21and all the way across
00:25:22and it's in
00:25:23and Walsall are in front
00:25:27well it was an absolute horror show
00:25:29at the back
00:25:32big ball into the box
00:25:34they're looking
00:25:35for Weir at the back post
00:25:36but it just
00:25:37doesn't get dealt with
00:25:38there's a little bit of holding
00:25:39in there
00:25:40and it just hits Weir
00:25:41and it bundles
00:25:42into the back post
00:25:43really
00:25:44horrible goal
00:25:45to concede
00:25:46so early on
00:25:49Clarke
00:25:52Humphrey's got a boot in
00:25:53and Harris gets it
00:25:54further clear
00:25:55Magookin chasing
00:25:56Flint
00:25:57guides it in a fashion
00:25:58to Evan Weir
00:25:59who has not quite
00:26:00put enough on that
00:26:02well almost an absolute calamity
00:26:04they're still not out of the woods
00:26:05yet
00:26:06that's a good save
00:26:07low down from
00:26:08Miles Roberts
00:26:09to prevent Eastleigh
00:26:10drawing level
00:26:11they've got to apply pressure
00:26:12force mistakes
00:26:13and errors
00:26:14it's a bit of a bizarre day
00:26:15of weather
00:26:16there's wind
00:26:17the sun's in your eyes
00:26:18it's one of those days
00:26:19that anything could happen
00:26:20can easily do
00:26:21what Walsall did to them
00:26:23from this corner kick
00:26:29seems to a pretty useful area
00:26:30Pierre got a piece of it
00:26:31Humphrey's off the bar
00:26:34they nearly did get level
00:26:35from a corner of their own
00:26:38that is a tough one
00:26:39to get over the top of
00:26:40it just didn't come down enough
00:26:42I think the goalkeeper would've
00:26:43certainly saved it
00:26:44maybe just tipped that onto the crossbar
00:26:46spitfires
00:26:48revving up their engines
00:26:50here's an opportunity
00:26:51no
00:26:52taken brilliantly
00:26:53no
00:26:54it looked for all the world
00:26:55as though Harvey Saunders
00:26:56had bent that in
00:26:57and his reaction to Jesse
00:26:59knows that he should have done
00:27:01really good gamble
00:27:03anticipation from Saunders
00:27:04to actually get him for the opportunity
00:27:12Barrett
00:27:16home fans querying
00:27:18that decision
00:27:19likewise Archie Harris
00:27:22that first touch
00:27:23just there
00:27:24the second one comes inside
00:27:25he just couldn't put the brakes on
00:27:26and then that right leg
00:27:27comes out
00:27:29Evan Weir the goal scorer
00:27:31will deliver
00:27:36Townsend
00:27:37oh he's dropped it
00:27:38it's not quite two
00:27:40big big let off
00:27:42after Nick Townsend
00:27:43spilled straight into the path
00:27:45of Daniel Canu
00:27:46and Walsall
00:27:47so close to doubling their lead
00:27:54Weir
00:27:55lovely pass
00:27:56Canu
00:27:572-0
00:27:58real moment of class there
00:28:00from Daniel Canu
00:28:01has put daylight
00:28:03between Walsall
00:28:04and Eastleigh
00:28:05and now
00:28:06it's a tall order
00:28:07for the non-league side
00:28:09first real time
00:28:10seen him get
00:28:11any kind of space
00:28:12and run
00:28:13there's a big gap there
00:28:15between the centre-back
00:28:16and the right-back
00:28:17for Eastleigh
00:28:18but that's a brilliant finish
00:28:19high and into the near
00:28:20pose
00:28:21you can either go across the goal
00:28:22there
00:28:23or exactly where he puts it
00:28:24and it's a brilliant finish
00:28:29Lakin
00:28:31Canu
00:28:32oh lovely touch
00:28:33Canu
00:28:35arguably a more presentable
00:28:36opportunity
00:28:37than the one that he stuck away
00:28:38he has really started to show his quality
00:28:47Presley gets it back
00:28:49and he's inches away
00:28:51from sealing the win once and for all
00:28:52for Walsall
00:28:53well he might not have been motoring up the channel
00:28:56but he certainly nearly just found the far post corner here
00:28:59only a foot wide
00:29:05Rico Brown
00:29:06oh that's
00:29:07a bit casual
00:29:08and they could be in here
00:29:09great save
00:29:11Miles Roberts down
00:29:12with a strong leg
00:29:14to prevent Eastleigh turning it into a one goal game
00:29:21useful
00:29:22Matt might be in here
00:29:27complete air kick from Brindley
00:29:29and it's Jamil Matt to wrap it up
00:29:32which he has done
00:29:34game over
00:29:36Walsall through
00:29:37to the second round of the FA Cup
00:29:40oh the moment Brindley
00:29:42really commits to winning this ball
00:29:45like a flying air kick
00:29:47doesn't make any contact
00:29:49then he knows exactly where that bottom corner is
00:29:51he's been in this situation a few times over the years
00:29:55and he makes no mistake there
00:29:57that's his 141st goal since making his
00:30:01professional debut with Kidderminster Harriers
00:30:03back in 2010
00:30:06obviously it was a really good start to the game for us
00:30:08and I want us to be really competitive from set plays
00:30:10I think it's a big area for us
00:30:12so I was really delighted to get our noses in front
00:30:15and I'm really delighted for Jamil to go and score
00:30:18because there's not many people more that are losing
00:30:20people more that are as respected as Jamil in our levels
00:30:23and he's an unbelievable person
00:30:25we've come up against a really good team
00:30:26really well coached
00:30:28really good individuals
00:30:30we had our moments
00:30:32I thought first half I was as good as we've been since I've been here
00:30:35I thought we opened them up a few times
00:30:37and we made it like we talked about before
00:30:39made it a proper cup tie
00:30:41but we needed to do that for longer really
00:30:43the second goal knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit
00:30:45and after that I thought they were comfortable in the end
00:30:48Yeah, proper assessment
00:30:51that's exactly what happened
00:30:52however, Eastleigh did make it a cup tie Danny
00:30:55I think the difference was the clinical nature of both teams
00:30:58Eastleigh having 64% of the possession
00:31:01created some chances
00:31:03and then you've got Walsall who had 3 shots on target and scored them all
00:31:07so that was the difference
00:31:09but I feel that Eastleigh gave a good account on themselves
00:31:11despite losing 3-0
00:31:12and if they put one or two away he'd have been ok
00:31:15And Dion, Daniel Kanu, 20 years old
00:31:16scored 5-12 for Walsall
00:31:18so he's joining on a season long loan from Charlton Athletic in August
00:31:22what a prospect
00:31:24Yeah, it just looks quite a natural finisher
00:31:27you know, he gets himself a really good goal
00:31:29he could have had 2 possibly 3 as well during the period of the game
00:31:32I think he just
00:31:34he takes the goal really well
00:31:35it's one of those I would have probably put in the stand
00:31:38because it was on my left foot
00:31:39but he just, he swings it and he sticks it in the top corner
00:31:42it's in off the post as well
00:31:43he bends his run
00:31:44what he does, he goes towards the ball
00:31:46and leaves the area to be passed
00:31:48leaves the area so the ball can be passed into
00:31:51and he just, he literally just puts his laces through it
00:31:54and look at him, delighted as well
00:31:55and rightly so because he worked hard for the goal
00:31:57It's a great goal, it's a tight angle that as well Danny
00:31:59It is a tight angle and you're looking at it and you think
00:32:02you've got to hit it there because the defender's coming in on you
00:32:04so you've got to take the shot
00:32:06it's a tough one across because the keeper's angles weren't bad
00:32:08so to put it in at the near post at that height
00:32:10with that pace on it
00:32:12was everything he had to do and he did it really well
00:32:14And Dion, looking at the stats, Eastleigh had 64% of the ball in the game
00:32:1711 shots to Walsall's 13
00:32:19so they did, as Scott said there, they did make it a cup tie
00:32:22Yeah, bright, organised early on
00:32:25surprised them as well
00:32:26I just think it was just a little bit
00:32:30I mean, what they did is this
00:32:33they got the ball out of the danger area early on
00:32:36two forwards, I mean, if he's brave enough there to take a touch and go round the keeper
00:32:40he might get something
00:32:42they did get the bits but that was a very good chance
00:32:45Humphreys again here, alive in the box
00:32:48and at this point it's early on in the game, you're thinking
00:32:50they're taking the game, they're taking the game to them
00:32:51they're taking the game to them
00:32:53this one at the back post, but this is the one for me
00:32:55it was a big chance, big moment
00:32:57Saunders does everything right apart from the execution of the finish
00:33:00the run, you see it here
00:33:02just runs off, off the defender
00:33:04the defender's got his arm up and he's hit it on the half wall
00:33:06he just doesn't curl it, he needs to wrap his foot around it
00:33:08but the timing of it, everything's right apart from the finish
00:33:11Has he just rushed it there, Dion?
00:33:13No, he hasn't, he hasn't, he's just got it wrong, Dan, hasn't he?
00:33:15He's got it wrong, just opened his foot out a little bit too much
00:33:17he's tried the correct finish because the ball's coming up off the grass
00:33:21just needs to lift it, gets it wrong, unfortunately
00:33:23Well done to Walsall
00:33:25Right, next to last night's match where National League of Brackley Tann
00:33:27now playing at the highest level in their history
00:33:29we're at home to lead to Notts County
00:33:31who won the FA Cup back in 1894
00:33:34what a cracker this is, commentary from Pat Nevin and Martin Fisher
00:33:36and Martin Fisher
00:33:42Notts County, one of eight former winners of the FA Cup
00:33:46involved in the first round this season
00:33:48Brackley looking to reach round two
00:33:50for only the fifth time in their history
00:33:52Brackley welcomed back skipper Gazdine and Zach Lilley after suspension
00:33:56Matt Lowe scored twice in their 6-2 win over Woking in the fourth qualifying round
00:34:01Notts are without regular captain Matt Palmer
00:34:03Ollie Norburn steps in, Tyrese Hall is on a season loan from Tottenham
00:34:09Alessante Jatta has scored four in his last four games
00:34:13Zerula can hit it with his left and will try
00:34:19Pollock in the way, Dean's touch was heavy, out as far as Norburn
00:34:24and now it's Jones
00:34:25Lofsing, good ball, Jatta with the header, Notts County with the lead
00:34:31When those two combine, it usually brings reward for Notts County
00:34:37Wonderful delivery by Jodie Jones
00:34:40and Jatta, the main man, is on hand to power home his sixth of the season
00:34:45I mean you can't do any better than that, it's textbook
00:34:51Well, Chuck Price, Pollock's challenge on Robertson, play on says the referee
00:34:58Jones, time to measure in that cross, he's found Jatta
00:35:03What a challenge that is by Calder, brilliant
00:35:05Well, that's goal-saving, and it could be game-saving in many ways as well
00:35:11If you go two down this early, you just know that if he doesn't get in there
00:35:16Churchill's going to get that on target
00:35:20And right at the other end, Brackley go, and Roberts has been held back by Ness
00:35:25Just the free kick, no yellow
00:35:27So, after that reprieve, can Brackley level here?
00:35:33Price, swings it in, punched away by Roos, only as far as Little
00:35:38What a ball that is, and it's in!
00:35:42It's that man Lowe
00:35:45Roos dealt with the first one, but not the second
00:35:49Tossed in with extra spin by Little
00:35:52And Lowe is there to nudge it home, and Brackley are all square
00:35:57That's a really, really good header there in
00:36:00Well, we've got an FA Cup side on
00:36:05Matlow's fourth goal of the season, and all four have come in the FA Cup
00:36:12Throw-in has gone Brackley Towns way
00:36:15That should be a free kick, looking at that replay, it is
00:36:18Price has to put this into a danger area between
00:36:21Obviously the defence, who are really pushed not quite high now
00:36:24In by Price, up go the heads, and it drops far side, and it's in!
00:36:30Brackley Turner in front, but the flag is up, it won't count
00:36:34There's complaints from various players, but the assessment revenue is very, very quick
00:36:42Tell you what, there's a lot in that
00:36:44Back under way, and it's low
00:36:49Brackley turning the screw here, taking on Bordeaux
00:36:53Pollock attacked it near post, it might drop from Little
00:36:56Ness hacks it clear, not on the edge at the moment
00:37:00Brackley pumped up, another good spell for them
00:37:03What a cracker from Byrne, and what a save from Kela Roos
00:37:06Well right now, Notch County need the half-time whistle
00:37:16Jones has found Grant, who's in, and he's around the goalkeeper and then stumbles, penalty
00:37:22Well, he's been making that run all night long
00:37:30Oh, there's not a lot there
00:37:33Once again, this is close, real close up a little bit
00:37:38Oh, I don't know about that one
00:37:40I don't know either, Max still has been booked
00:37:42And so Jodie Jones now has the chance to beat him from 12 yards
00:37:47His only goal this season was from the spot
00:37:52Beautifully put away by Jones
00:37:54And the League Two outfit back in front
00:37:57With Jones' second goal of the campaign
00:38:00The real confidence about that, but how harsh on Brackley
00:38:04Who felt they should have had a goal just before half-time
00:38:07Zerudu has lost it to Pollock
00:38:12Robert's touch was strong
00:38:14First error there by Ness, and Brackley can go right here
00:38:17It's Little bursting forward
00:38:21Oh, 2-2, is it? Off the bar
00:38:25Now, big call here
00:38:28The dog comes in here, we're going to find out here
00:38:31Didn't go over the line, great header, gets on the end of it and...
00:38:35It's not
00:38:37But how close?
00:38:39He's hit the bar twice, no one moved there
00:38:41Bounce, bar, has it come up and hit the bar again?
00:38:43Yes
00:38:44Only has
00:38:46There are more than a few players out there that are breathing rather heavily at the moment
00:38:51But Brackley Town have given it their best shot all night
00:38:54And it continues here
00:38:56It's Calder
00:38:59Calder's ball in
00:39:01Right away across, it'll drop for Byrne
00:39:04Feels for handball there, strong shouts
00:39:08And the referee gives it
00:39:10Late drama, Oliver Norburn
00:39:13Handball, and Brackley Town get a penalty
00:39:17Two minutes from the end of added time
00:39:19Let the hands in a natural position
00:39:22The referee has got that spot on as far as I'm concerned
00:39:27This to take us into extra time
00:39:33Stewart scores, it's 2-2, and the dream is still on for National League, Brackley Town
00:39:40The FA Cup delivers yet again
00:39:46Up the line for Low
00:39:50Little centre, good one again
00:39:53Shot snatched at by Stewart, and he's wide
00:39:56He's allowed to go for it if he likes
00:40:00Considering he scored
00:40:02A vital goal to keep this tournament going for
00:40:05His team
00:40:08Jasser looks as cool as Custard
00:40:11And hits the bar!
00:40:13I did warn you
00:40:15There would be a few twists and turns to come
00:40:19Stewart scores
00:40:21Roos got something on it, but not enough on it
00:40:27Bennett's for knots
00:40:29Saved, poor penalty, too close to the keeper
00:40:32Brackley now are eyeing up round two
00:40:37It's Zac Brown, if he scores, Brackley Town are through
00:40:42And he does!
00:40:44Brackley Town from the National League
00:40:46Are through to round two of the FA Cup
00:40:50Twice behind during the game
00:40:53Twice they levelled, but they've won it from the spot
00:40:56We value the FA Cup just the same as Brackley
00:41:00But I thought they showed more impetus than we did
00:41:03So that's the real disappointing thing
00:41:05Because the football club, the supporters
00:41:07Everyone surrounding it
00:41:09Deserves a cup run
00:41:11And we failed them
00:41:13So nowhere to hide
00:41:14We just wanted to give a really good account of ourselves
00:41:16We felt like we got the game strategy right
00:41:18I felt like we were the better team
00:41:19We were fully in the ascendancy for most of the game
00:41:21Tonight it was great to get a couple of goals
00:41:23Probably should have had a few more
00:41:24If the referee hadn't have intervened
00:41:26Lots of chances, which is great
00:41:28It's important to create
00:41:30But yeah, we need to use this as a springboard now for the league
00:41:34To turn our performances into results
00:41:36Although they've been okay
00:41:38We think we can do more
00:41:40And then going into the next round is exciting to see, isn't it?
00:41:41This is what, as a boy, I dreamt of
00:41:43And I know all the players are really excited
00:41:45Well I can tell you, Dion and Danny
00:41:47I was there yesterday evening
00:41:49Presenting for Match of the Day Live
00:41:50And it was one of those FA Cup ties
00:41:52Where it was a pleasure and a privilege to be there
00:41:54Because Brackley were absolutely fantastic
00:41:56They won their tackles, more shots
00:41:58More shots on target
00:42:00Crosses in the box, Gavin Cameron really did his homework
00:42:03I mean, watching the game
00:42:05I knew I was watching an FA Cup game
00:42:07You could tell it just had that feeling
00:42:08Was it the same in the stadium, Jay?
00:42:09Absolutely
00:42:10Was it bouncing in the stadium, noisy?
00:42:12The best part was when we had to walk through the home end
00:42:14To get to our presenting position
00:42:16And during one of the controversial moments
00:42:18Two fans were watching our coverage
00:42:20And they went, that goal shouldn't have been allowed, lads
00:42:22That goal shouldn't have been allowed
00:42:24And it made me realise, that's why I love the FA Cup
00:42:26You don't get that in the Premier League
00:42:28And it's nice and close and they're with you
00:42:30Brilliant
00:42:32And I think it's great to be able to go and watch these games
00:42:34And savour these games and experience them
00:42:35They were just fantastic, Brackley
00:42:37Yeah, they were
00:42:38And you can see, even Martin Patterson at the end
00:42:40Was sort of saying, listen, we wanted to go far in the FA Cup
00:42:42So it shows how good value they were, Brackley
00:42:45Their organisation, as Dion quite rightly mentioned
00:42:47And the way they were on the front foot
00:42:49And they never had to say die attitude
00:42:51It was amazing
00:42:53Yeah, let's take a look at some of the big moments
00:42:55And even in the ground
00:42:57And watch the home fans now, Dion, here
00:42:59Everybody puts their hand up to say, that's handball
00:43:00Yeah
00:43:01And I think we were all confused
00:43:03When Ollie Norburn was looking as if to say, that's not handball
00:43:05Yeah
00:43:06He has to, he has to do that
00:43:08He has to get up and play the game
00:43:09But he knows
00:43:10And this is late on, remember
00:43:12It's 96, isn't it?
00:43:13It's amazing
00:43:14And it's Callum Stewart who had the courage to, you know, make it look easy
00:43:18And fair play to them
00:43:20They got into the shootout
00:43:21Johnny Maxted
00:43:22Johnny Maxted there
00:43:23Just guessing correct
00:43:24It wasn't a great penalty to be fair
00:43:26You know, Bennett missing that one
00:43:28But I just believe that sometimes
00:43:30You get that little bit of luck you deserve
00:43:33When you put the amount of effort that Brackley put in
00:43:36I think it's, it was deserved in the end
00:43:39And Zac Brown there going to the away fans
00:43:41To celebrate
00:43:43Yeah, big mistake
00:43:45But it was, it was just a cracking cup tart
00:43:46And I tell you something, at home, at St James Park
00:43:49League teams will not fancy that
00:43:50Yeah
00:43:51It was a really intimidating place last night
00:43:53Yeah, and you've got to make it that way
00:43:55I remember when I was at Salford
00:43:56You have to make it hostile for whoever comes to your manor
00:44:00And make it a difficult place
00:44:01Is that the cup tart you scored in?
00:44:02I think so, yeah
00:44:04I knew he'd get that
00:44:05It's the screamer from two yards
00:44:07Right, six games from
00:44:09Right, enough of that
00:44:10Six games from Saturday now
00:44:11With more non-league teams
00:44:12Dreaming of that big EFL upset
00:44:14This is just the second time the modern day Hemel Hempstead have made the first round
00:44:21Never have they made it further
00:44:23Nicknamed the Tudors because of the town's association with Henry VIII
00:44:27They were looking to make a bit of history
00:44:29But the 2013 cup winners Wigan looked to stamp their authority on the game early
00:44:34Here's a chance from Mullen across the face of goal and it's gone in
00:44:38And it's turned home by Callum Wright
00:44:41His second goal for the club
00:44:43The complexion of the match changed midway through the second half
00:44:46Matt Smith pulled Miller-Matthews-Lewis back when he was in on goal
00:44:50A penalty was given and he was sent off
00:44:53And this is Joe White
00:44:56And he scored it
00:44:58Well, are we in for an upset?
00:44:59Sadie tries one
00:45:03It falls to Mullen
00:45:04Can he do it?
00:45:05He goes down
00:45:06Here's an opportunity for Wigan Athletic
00:45:08And he goes down
00:45:09Is that the penalty for Wigan Athletic?
00:45:12Paul Mullen stepped up to take the penalty
00:45:15And he misses it
00:45:17It hits the stanchion and goes into the south stand
00:45:20Where there's nobody there to retrieve it
00:45:22The Tudors very nearly won it at the death
00:45:25Adiola with an opportunity
00:45:26Oh, he's headed off the crossbar again and it's blocked!
00:45:30Extraordinary scenes at the brick
00:45:32It was still 1-1 after extra time so it went to penalties
00:45:36Adi Aziz
00:45:38And it's saved by Sam Tickle
00:45:41That left Morgan Fox to take the decisive spot kick
00:45:44Hemel's manager Lee Allenson had promised to have a commemorative tattoo done if his side won
00:45:50Instead he'll have an occasion that's etched on the memory
00:45:52Seventh Tears St Auburn City had not enjoyed ideal preparations for their big day in the cup
00:45:59They lost their manager in the week and within 60 seconds they lost track of Burton Albion too
00:46:06They come Burton again, ball played into the penalty road
00:46:08Tyrese Shade said he was being pulled back
00:46:10It doesn't matter, he scores!
00:46:12Tyrese Shade the scorer for the lead one side
00:46:14Perhaps it couldn't get any worse for the Saints
00:46:17And for a while it didn't
00:46:19No more goals before half-time
00:46:20And then just after it
00:46:22A moment that might have changed things
00:46:24Harrison Smith with a big
00:46:26What if?
00:46:27Almost immediately it became
00:46:29What now?
00:46:30An in-fashion long throw
00:46:32Found its way to Charlie Webster
00:46:34To make it two
00:46:36Webster started out at Chelsea
00:46:38And was once thought of as one of the best young prospects around
00:46:43St Auburn's were about to see why
00:46:46He's going forward, driving towards the edge of the area
00:46:48Shoots!
00:46:50What a goal from Charlie Webster
00:46:52A goal that underlines the fact that there are four divisions between these sides
00:46:56St Auburn's needed shelter but later on they found only Shade
00:47:00Who worked space and angles superbly
00:47:03That was four
00:47:05After celebrating Shade came off
00:47:07Jack Newell came on
00:47:09And remained undetected by the St Auburn's defence
00:47:12He laid on the fifth for Fabio Tavares
00:47:16St Auburn's had conceded on average
00:47:18Just over five goals in their last six cup ties
00:47:21Against league sides
00:47:23And this would end up on trend
00:47:25Tavares again 6-0
00:47:26And this would end up on the field
00:47:27But now being through
00:47:33Spenny-Mortan from the National League North were playing in the first round for only the second time in their history
00:47:38With their fans doubtless hoping for a knees up at Brewery Field against League 2 Barrow
00:47:43Playing up the famous slope, the Cumbrian side took the lead thanks to Elliot Newby's clever chip
00:47:51Ball over the top, a lovely one looking for Wickley
00:47:53And it's 2-0 for the visitors
00:47:57Spenny-Mortan boss Graham Lee once reached round five as a player with Knox County
00:48:02But the FA Cup dream is over for his players this year
00:48:06It's been more than 16 years since Chester had a league club
00:48:11Now struggling in the sixth tier, they still brought 1,200 fans to Cambridge United
00:48:14Hoping to see their League 2 opponents slip
00:48:17Instead the U's stumbled into the lead inside ten minutes through Cillian Kwasi
00:48:25Deep towards the far post, arriving at the far post, he's fallen in
00:48:29If there was an element of accident about that goal, then Kwasi's next trick was very much on purpose
00:48:35Two team mates screamed for the pass, Kwasi chose neither of them 2-0
00:48:40Chester had their moments but this was all done before half-time
00:48:46This time Kwasi did play the pass to James Brophy
00:48:50Who hammered in Cambridge's third of an impressively efficient Cup victory
00:48:55Gondel Park was the scene of the biggest Cup upset of the season so far
00:49:02With Grimsby knocking Manchester United out of the League Cup
00:49:06This time they were the Giants, Ebsfleet were looking to do the slaying
00:49:10And they started well
00:49:12Oh for the first time, ball round the corner by Gene Kennedy
00:49:14Picks out Charlie Seaman, chance maybe to play through, will he have a go?
00:49:17Yes he does, blocks, oh and into the back of the net
00:49:19Goodness gracious me Ebsfleet, they're ahead!
00:49:22But in added time at the end of the first half, the fleet's chances headed south
00:49:27Ben Chapman, he's got in studs up, into the knee of Lewis Walker
00:49:30The referee is taking his time to make this decision
00:49:33I've not got a good feeling about it though, and it's a straight red for Ben Chapman
00:49:37In the second half, Grimsby took control
00:49:39Lovely cutting ball, finds Harvey Rodgers inside the 18 yard box
00:49:43Squared perfectly, into space, can't get a shot away
00:49:46Oh it's an air shot, second chance and into the back of the net
00:49:49And there it is!
00:49:51Edge of the box, still Grimsby have it, Sven Thorsen
00:49:55Now back out to Vernon
00:49:57Now into the middle of the box, blocked away and again saved on the line
00:50:00It's an end to the back of the net
00:50:01Nice cross from Harvey Rodgers, headed away into the chest of Kohli
00:50:08As he tries to get it away, there's Churi
00:50:11Oh it's taken a touch, off Ola Gunju and into the back of the net
00:50:14Big shout out to all our commentators as well from our BBC local radio teams
00:50:20Fantastic stuff, right goals from 25, more first round ties on the way
00:50:23But first a reminder, the Champions League returns this week
00:50:26The UEFA Champions League is back on the BBC
00:50:31With highlights of every single match
00:50:34All the goals and all the unmissable moments
00:50:37It's what everybody's talking about
00:50:39Remarkable
00:50:40What a night that was
00:50:42Match of the day, UEFA Champions League highlights
00:50:44Wednesday night on BBC iPlayer
00:50:47Before then Chappers is your host for Match of the Day tonight
00:50:50With highlights of West Ham United against Newcastle United
00:50:53And Manchester City against Bournemouth
00:50:56Or of course you can listen to commentary of the big clash in the NFL tonight
00:50:59As the Chiefs take on the Bills
00:51:01That's BBC Sounds from 9 o'clock
00:51:03Seven all non-league ties from Saturday now
00:51:06Starting with the Essex dust-up between Chelmsford City and Braintree Town
00:51:14Just 13 miles and one division separate Chelmsford City and Braintree Town
00:51:17They'd never previously faced each other in the FA Cup proper
00:51:21So this was an eagerly awaited Essex derby
00:51:24Braintree had only ever won one of their ten matches in the first round
00:51:28And it was Chelmsford who took the lead through Jason Adigan
00:51:31The upset was on for the National League South team
00:51:35When veteran striker Lyle Taylor struck a second
00:51:37With local pride as well as a place in round two at stake
00:51:43Braintree mounted a fight back
00:51:47Jesserun Uchegbulam quickly restored the host's two goal lead
00:51:52What a moment!
00:51:54Jesserun Uchegbulam
00:51:56He's only officially been a player for an hour and 40 minutes
00:52:01What a story!
00:52:03Soon after, Taylor had his second
00:52:05There was no coming back for the National League side
00:52:08A win over your local rivals
00:52:11There is nothing better
00:52:13Chelmsford City
00:52:15Who beat Braintree Town
00:52:17By four goals to one
00:52:18Three to one
00:52:21Through their troubled recent history
00:52:23Southend United have found little escapism in the Cup
00:52:26They'd won only one in nine first round ties
00:52:29And soon were up against it again
00:52:31Ben Goodliffe adjudged to be denying a goal scoring opportunity here
00:52:35Red card, only 17 minutes gone
00:52:38And around two of them had passed
00:52:40Before Wildstone made it tougher still
00:52:43Olufela Olamola with his first goal since rejoining the club
00:52:46Some robust individuals have been on Wildstone's books over the years
00:52:51Stuart Pearce and Vinnie Jones among them
00:52:53And they stood firm against the Shrimpers
00:52:56Leon Chambers Perillon tried the spectacular
00:52:58But Southend fell to a familiar fate
00:53:03As giant killings go, this might not be the most eye-catching
00:53:07But Slau currently sit in the relegation zone in National League South
00:53:10Not that you'd have known it
00:53:11On as an early substitute and making his debut for the Rebels
00:53:15And Sujena volleyed home the opener
00:53:17Victor Makowski doubled their lead
00:53:21Sliding the ball in after a great cross from Tyrese Dice
00:53:26They nearly got a third, the woodwork denying them
00:53:29But they went in at half-time, 2-0 up
00:53:31Alteringham were better in the second half
00:53:34And got a goal back through James Gale
00:53:36But Slau hung on to claim the win
00:53:38Helped in no small part by their player manager Scott Davis
00:53:41Who was at the heart of their defence
00:53:43Sun United had been eliminated in four of the last six first-round ties
00:53:48And were in no mood to make it 5-7 against AFC Telford United
00:53:54One league below them
00:53:56David Ogbonna flicked home junior Eccleston's ball
00:53:59As they hit the front before half-time with a spring in their step
00:54:02After the restart, it was Ogbonna with the assist for the sliding Ashley Naderson
00:54:07To make it 2-0
00:54:09Telford were playing at this stage for just the sixth time
00:54:12And at least had an FA Cup memory to take home
00:54:14Ricardo de Nanga stooping, if not to conquer then at least to console
00:54:18As Sutton saw the game out to progress to round 2
00:54:25The Aldershot manager John Coleman could be forgiven for not knowing much about his own team
00:54:30Let alone the opposition having only taken over last week
00:54:33Not that you'd have known it as they took the lead through Kibben Rye
00:54:36They held on to that lead until the 84th minute
00:54:38When Edmund Lewis scrambled the ball home after Luke Coulson's free kick had been cleared
00:54:43It finished 1-1 and into extra time they went
00:54:46The Seagulls manager Scott Rogers taught before the game of making the town proud
00:54:51James Waite's winner certainly did that
00:54:53And for just the second time, they're in to round 2
00:54:58Goals have always followed AFC Tottenham in their short FA Cup history
00:55:03Their only two ties yielded a remarkable total of 16
00:55:06Just saying
00:55:08They made the long journey north from Hampshire to Macclesfield
00:55:10And must have wondered if it was worth the trip
00:55:12After max striker Danny Elliott headed his side in front
00:55:15After just 6 minutes
00:55:17But there were no signs of travel sickness when Tottenham responded almost immediately
00:55:21Tony Lee's towering header brought them level
00:55:24Macclesfield are managed by Wayne Rooney's younger brother John
00:55:28Both would have celebrated Elliott's movement and persistence in notching his second
00:55:32The celebration wasn't bad either
00:55:33Back came the visitors
00:55:36Striker Scott Rendell used all his years of experience to outfox his marker and make it two each
00:55:42His second of the game was even better, a brilliant volley with a match still only 27 minutes old
00:55:48Mac's turn and that man Elliott again plundering a first half hat-trick
00:55:51Remember that thing about Tottenham's goals
00:55:553-3 and not yet half-time
00:55:57Tottenham are managed by Jimmy Ball, son of England World Cup winner and twice FA Cup finalist Alan Ball
00:56:03But wouldn't have liked the space afforded to Paul Dawson to fire the home side 4-3 in front
00:56:08Still the goals came, sadly for the National League team, all in their own net
00:56:12First, Rollin Menayese stabbed a fifth to provide some breathing room for the Silkmen
00:56:19Eleven minutes from time this breathless cup tie was over as a contest
00:56:23Lewis Fenson rifled in a sixth to send Mac through and Tottenham on a four-hour road journey back to the New Forest
00:56:291928 was the last time Chatham town made the first round, this 97-year high point took them to the peak district
00:56:40Convinced they could keep climbing
00:56:43He's gone for a goal and what a strike by the Chatham striker
00:56:47His fifth goal in their FA Cup run and the perfect start to the second half of the side from Kent
00:56:52Buxton of the league above were in a scrap and when it came to it, they showed they had the appropriate minerals
00:56:59Tate Campbell grabbed the equaliser midway through the second half
00:57:03But they couldn't find a winner in normal time, so the tie was extended into the Derbyshire evening
00:57:09About time someone took charge, thought Buxton's captain Connor Kirby
00:57:13The shot from Rage is an absolute worldie! Oh my word! Connor Kirby with probably the best goal he would have
00:57:20And that could be the goal that sends Buxton into the FA Cup second round
00:57:28Right, of all those great goals we've just seen, which one do you think we're going to pick out?
00:57:34I wonder, I wonder
00:57:36Let's go for Captain Kirby, I mean look at this for a strike
00:57:40When you wake up on an FA Cup morning, you dream of this
00:57:41Yeah, you just, you dream of getting chances, but I mean he just nudges it to his team-mate
00:57:48Team-mate nudges it back, he makes sure he keeps hold of the ball
00:57:50I'm thinking just, you know, find a team-mate, no
00:57:53Find the back of the net, 30 yards on the angle, brilliant!
00:57:56Unbelievable, he took a knock just before it, since the anger that he puts through the ball
00:58:00He just puts his foot through it, the technique was unbelievable
00:58:02Look at the celebrations!
00:58:03Look at everybody!
00:58:04The celebrations!
00:58:05Just brilliant!
00:58:06Look at that!
00:58:07That's how much it means, that's how much it means to the players that get a chance to play in the FA Cup
00:58:12Everything!
00:58:13Yeah, and remember, they were 1-0 down, so Buxton showed a lot of bottle
00:58:17Put a spring in your step!
00:58:20Very good, very good!
00:58:22Let's talk about the Braintree red card, this is Aidan Francis-Clark, Dion
00:58:26Why are you coming to me?
00:58:29Why are you coming to me?
00:58:30That's unfair!
00:58:33It's just pure frustration, it's pure frustration
00:58:37He's being pulled back, he's being pulled back
00:58:40And then he just thinks, look, there he is, look, one, two, three
00:58:44And he thinks, I can't do any more, what can I do, and he just
00:58:47I mean, you just cannot do that
00:58:49It's out of character, because he's a good player
00:58:51He's doing well this season for them in the National League
00:58:53But it's out of character for the young man
00:58:54But also, that was a bit of a tasty game anyway, wasn't it?
00:58:57Yeah, well, it's what you expect
00:58:59You know, big, big rewards
00:59:01You know, big rewards, everybody wants to do well
00:59:03And, you know, it's a platform for those players as well
00:59:05Good stuff guys, thank you very much indeed
00:59:07Right, non-League South Shields, who are second in National League North
00:59:10We're at home this lunchtime to Shrewsbury Town
00:59:12Who are at the wrong end of League Two
00:59:14This one had all the makings of an upset
00:59:16Commentary from Simon Brotherton
00:59:17Trying to pick the pass through midfield
00:59:25It was aimed towards Marquis
00:59:28Not picking him out this time
00:59:30Maybe an opportunity for South Shields to venture forward for the first time in the match
00:59:34With Blacken into the penalty area
00:59:36And just wide of the post
00:59:38Off the boot of Sedwyn Scott
00:59:40Well, there's an early shot across the bowels for Shrewsbury
00:59:44Bit of space, this is Bainbridge, the looney from Sunderland
00:59:54Bright start, two good efforts on goal inside the opening five minutes for South Shields
01:00:06Caviar looking to get the better of Bainbridge and he has
01:00:09Tinklers header away
01:00:11Come on Chris, have a word son
01:00:18Back with Caviar once more
01:00:20Having quite a tussle with Oliver Bainbridge
01:00:24Corner for Shrewsbury Town
01:00:32Stabs in Anderson now from the back in the heart of the six yard box
01:00:35Player down inside the penalty area and the referee points to the spot
01:00:46Penalty for Shrewsbury Town
01:00:48It's Mal Benning who went down
01:00:50Watch the number three there as he runs into this edge of the six yard box
01:00:55Gets a little shove from Caden Kelly
01:01:00Shrewsbury Town finding a golden opportunity to take the lead
01:01:03And it's a lead that they have thanks to Anthony Scully
01:01:09And all the good work of the opening 22 minutes for South Shields
01:01:14Suddenly goes out of the window Shrewsbury Town have the lead on the road in the FA Cup
01:01:19Rare touch of the ball in this first half for Will Brook, the goalkeeper for Shrewsbury
01:01:24Now a chance to break, Ismail Caviar
01:01:29Nice ball into John Marquis
01:01:33Pressure, second goal
01:01:37Scully at the double
01:01:38And it's turning into a tough afternoon for South Shields
01:01:44And Ismail Caviar on loan from Arsenal was the creator here
01:01:49But look at Scully in the middle
01:01:52Heading into the danger area, got there first
01:01:562-0 to Shrewsbury
01:01:57To Shrewsbury
01:02:00Robbie Tinkler finding Caden Kelly
01:02:05It was a bit loose there by Luke Woolston
01:02:08Chance now for Shrewsbury to break away here with Tommy McDermott
01:02:13Support arriving in and around the penalty area
01:02:15Could be a goal for number 10 Tom Sang
01:02:223-0
01:02:24With half time rapidly approaching
01:02:27And that could be game set and match for Shrewsbury Town
01:02:31Well they haven't had much to shout about so far this season
01:02:35Only two places off the bottom of the Football League
01:02:39But 3-0 up on the road in the FA Cup
01:02:42Mal Benning, only his third appearance of the season with the throw
01:02:49Tommy McDermott with the shot, brings the save
01:02:52Back out it comes, the shot from Luca Hall
01:02:57The substitute only just onto the field on the follow-up
01:03:00But here Tommy McDermott letting fly
01:03:03Almost midway through the second half here now
01:03:09Here's the substitute, Sean McGurk
01:03:11Lovely play from McGurk
01:03:14Ball takes a deflection and into the net
01:03:17And South Shields are on the board
01:03:19And at last the home crowd have something to cheer about
01:03:22Woolston tried to pick his spot
01:03:24The little deflection just carried it out of reach for the goalkeeper I think
01:03:28It's South Shields 1, Shrewsbury Town 3
01:03:32And a little glimmer of hope perhaps
01:03:35For the National League Northside
01:03:37Kabya still full of running
01:03:44Ismail Kabya now
01:03:46One on one with the keeper
01:03:48Good block made by Jasper Sheik
01:03:51Well Shrewsbury
01:03:53Close to scoring a fourth goal there
01:03:55But Kabya
01:03:58Denied by the South Shields keeper
01:04:00Yeah, it was always going to be a tricky tie wasn't it, Dion for South Shields?
01:04:06It was, but they did well
01:04:08They did really well, they started well
01:04:10I'm going to say they had the majority of the ball in regards percentages and they passed it really well
01:04:16They tried to play the game in the right way
01:04:18It was just their lack of quality in the final third
01:04:21Getting to good areas, choosing the wrong pass, not hitting the target
01:04:26That's what let them down
01:04:27I want to talk about Anthony Scully
01:04:28He scored his first brace in four years
01:04:30In scoring twice for Michael Appleton when he was at Lincoln
01:04:33So they know each other
01:04:34That was a 5-1 win at Cambridge in League One in September 2021
01:04:37But took his chances?
01:04:39He did take his chances, he was good Anthony Scully
01:04:41The first one being a penalty, obviously a pressure moment in the FA Cup
01:04:45You see it here, takes his deep breath and just executes that one really well
01:04:49And then the second one was, you see him on the far side of the pitch there
01:04:55But he's got to get in there first, he's got to make the run, get ahead of the defender
01:04:59And then get him where it hurts and he's there with the instinct
01:05:02And it looks difficult, but all the work's been done prior to that
01:05:05And then this was really important
01:05:07Ball comes to him here, just knocks it out of his feet
01:05:11Gets a strike away and then Tom Sang is on the spot
01:05:14And that's not an easy finish for Tom Sang either
01:05:15He's got to lift it, there's people on the line
01:05:16But he was really bright Anthony Scully
01:05:18Yeah, he was in the right place
01:05:20Shrewsbury's second away win of the season
01:05:22Their only other win, Dion on the road
01:05:24A 3-1 winner Barnett in League Two in September
01:05:26So they'll be delighted to put that
01:05:28Torrid away form in the league
01:05:30Away to one side in the Cup
01:05:32I think this will help them because
01:05:34You'll be buoyant, the training ground will be happy plays
01:05:37They'll be harming on the training ground
01:05:39Let's take that into the league now, continue that form
01:05:41And the confidence that we've shown
01:05:43Yeah, you often say that don't you?
01:05:44A Cup run can affect your league form
01:05:45You get into training on Monday, you look forward to the draw
01:05:48And suddenly you want a decent run in the league
01:05:50Yeah, I mean, Daniel telling the same thing
01:05:52If you get a win in the Cup, it's huge as well
01:05:55When you are a smaller club in stature
01:05:57You get to that, you know, the promised land of third round
01:06:00It's very, very important
01:06:01Yep, absolutely
01:06:02Right, yesterday there were eight teams from League Two
01:06:05Looking to get the better of their League One rivals
01:06:07Including Salford City were at home to Lincoln City
01:06:12Instead of a pot of gold, Salford and Lincoln were merely searching for a place in the second round
01:06:17When they met at the Peninsular Stadium
01:06:19It was the League One side who struck first
01:06:22Eric Ring picking up the ball in his own half
01:06:24Before driving his way through the Salford defence
01:06:26Before finishing in the bottom corner
01:06:27It was all a bit too easy
01:06:30They very nearly hung on
01:06:32But three minutes into extra time
01:06:34Salford's Kelly and Mai equalised
01:06:36Taking it into extra time
01:06:38There were no more goals
01:06:40So it went to penalties
01:06:42Lincoln's Tom Bayless saw his hit the crossbar
01:06:46Then Mark Howard saved Connor McGrendle's effort
01:06:49Leaving Daniel Udo to send Salford into round two
01:06:55Worth a picture for posterity
01:06:59With these two never having met before in a domestic cup competition
01:07:03Hats off to Ian Holloway
01:07:05Who's taken Swindon to second in League Two
01:07:07And bang in the middle of a promotion race
01:07:09They fell behind though when Sam Nombe
01:07:12Weaved his way through to goal inside five minutes
01:07:14The home side weathered heavy pressure from the visitors
01:07:17Until an equaliser finally came in the second half
01:07:19Well-travelled striker Ollie Palmer sweeping Swindon level
01:07:24With extra time beckoning Holloway's side were reduced to ten men
01:07:29Aaron Drinan reacted rashly to Dan Gore's challenge
01:07:33And saw red
01:07:37The game was settled four minutes from the end of extra time
01:07:40A classy winning goal from Darren Oldacre sent them through
01:07:43And suggested Swindon might well be rubbing shoulders with Rotherham more regularly next season in League One
01:07:53Harrogate's manager Simon Weaver welcomed a cup break with his side on a four-match losing streak in the league
01:08:00They could take confidence from the fact they'd already beaten Mansfield in the EFL Trophy this season
01:08:05But another shock looked unlikely when the home side took the lead after just four minutes
01:08:10Regan Hendry slotting home Stephen McLaughlin's cross
01:08:14But Harrogate Towns stayed in the game and midway through the second half a ball over the top put Jack Muldoon in space
01:08:20He held it up well before assistance arrived and he set it up for Stephen Duke McKenna to do the rest
01:08:26Stagg's substitute George Marris put them back in the lead his 20-yard shot taking a wicked deflection and looping over the head of the Harrogate keeper
01:08:35Again the League Two side came back Anthony O'Connor heading home from a Reece Smith corner
01:08:41But three minutes later the decisive goal Marris with his second of the game taking Nigel Clough's side through
01:08:47Look at the numbers and Chesterfield had one of the toughest tasks in the first round away at Stevenage
01:08:59Unbeaten at home in the league above them and yet Dan Sweeney's act of passing charity gave the spy rights the break they needed
01:09:06From that mistake they won a penalty and from that penalty Lee bonus put the League Two side in front
01:09:11Chesterfield like Stevenage have hopes of promotion fuelled by talent such as Dylan Markande who so nearly made it two
01:09:20Either way Chesterfield are into the second round for the fifth season in a row
01:09:28Tranmere Rovers had won their last two games against Stockport County in all competitions scoring six and conceding none
01:09:34But the dynamic League One leaders went ahead at Prenton Park Jack Diamond with a sparkling run and shot in front of a big travelling contingent behind the Tranmere goal
01:09:45There was a touch of good fortune about the home side's equaliser
01:09:48Amari Patrick's goal bound effort took a big deflection to bring his side level
01:09:53Ollie Norwood put the League One team back in front with a smart free kick
01:09:57Reviving memories of his days in the Premier League with Sheffield United
01:09:59The Hatters put the game beyond any doubt when Nathan Lowe lobbed the keeper and bamboozled the scrambling defender
01:10:06Stockport County might just be good value for a decent run in this year's competition
01:10:13This was the first meeting in the FA Cup between these two sides and one that Graham Alexander and his side would like to forget
01:10:20The decisive moment in the game came just two minutes in
01:10:23A free kick for the home side
01:10:24The shrill sound of the whistle saw many of the players stop
01:10:28But not Isaac Hutchinson who headed in
01:10:31There was consternation among the Bradford players
01:10:33And even the Cheltenham manager Steve Cottle said after the game he could understand their frustration
01:10:38So much for playing to the referee's whistle
01:10:43Bradford threw everything including their goalkeeper at Cheltenham
01:10:46But couldn't find an equaliser
01:10:47Crew Alexandra might well have been anticipating a minor upset against Doncaster Rovers in this their first FA Cup meeting in over half a century
01:10:59Hopes were even higher when skipper Mickey Dimitriou put them in front with an excellent long-range strike just before half-time
01:11:05There's no truth in the suggestion
01:11:12Doncaster striker Billy Sharp featured when these two last met in the 1970-71 season
01:11:17But the striker who seems to have been around forever
01:11:20Knocks the latest FA Cup goal of his long and illustrious career to bring Rovers level
01:11:24Then in stoppage time a late, late winner for the visitors
01:11:28Mellon kills a lovely ball and goal
01:11:32Terrific ball for Owen Bailey the captain of the Doncaster Rovers
01:11:37And he's more or less won the tie now
01:11:40At the start of this season Oldham's well-travelled manager Mickey Mellon signed a striker he knew well on loan from Burnley
01:11:49He happened to be his son
01:11:51But if there were any accusations of favouritism
01:11:52Michael Mellon was about to turn all that on its head spectacularly
01:11:57Mellon with a peach to put Oldham in front against League One Northampton Town
01:12:02And just a minute later he was in again to score again
01:12:06The Latics had been in uninspiring form in the league but here everything bore fruit
01:12:11And Michael Mellon into an empty net
01:12:17Michael Mellon's hat-trick, Oldham 3, Northampton Town 0
01:12:22Northampton had been bystanders but then they hadn't won a first round tie in six years
01:12:27And Cameron McEhan's goal wasn't going to change that
01:12:30Oldham and the Mellons march on
01:12:32In fact there's a brilliant quote from Mickey Mellon I want to read out to you
01:12:38He said, take the dad part out of it, take the guy who loves football out of it
01:12:42You want to watch football for these moments and these types of goals live
01:12:45And anyone who gets the opportunity to see it back
01:12:47I think you want to watch it over and over and over again
01:12:50The way he's executed his top draw
01:12:52Lovely words from Dad
01:12:54Yeah, exactly
01:12:56And that's, you know, even though he said, you know, I'll take that apart
01:13:01He's proud, he's very, very proud that his son's played as well as that
01:13:05Scored goals with quality like that as well
01:13:08I mean the first one, Dan, I'd have brought me back
01:13:11Unbelievable, if you look at him in here and he's, at this point, an overhead kick's not in his mind
01:13:15It's an instinctive finish but he spins and that's unbelievable
01:13:18Really, really is a great finish
01:13:20Wonderful technique, isn't it?
01:13:21Yes, fantastic
01:13:23Yeah, the hard thing about the overhead kick is his preparation
01:13:26Again, look at him, he's just, you know, he's on the go
01:13:28He's thinking, that might just go into that area
01:13:30Again, instinctive, he just lifts it over for the keeper
01:13:33Which is possibly the hardest finish he could have, could have gone for
01:13:36This one, keeper's in no man's land, but, you know, you deserve that
01:13:39When you've scored the first two goals, you deserve that little bit of fortune
01:13:42He's gone for the all three there as well, look
01:13:44Yeah, just let him ever be, no, that's it, that's his third and quite rightly so
01:13:46Lovely stuff, lovely
01:13:48What a proud moment for the Melons as well
01:13:49Yeah, very, very, I'm pleased for them, I really am
01:13:53And I'm pleased for Mickie as well, you know, he deserves a little bit of a smile on his face for the weekend
01:13:57Well done
01:13:58Yeah, how far can he go do you think?
01:13:59I think he can, you know, obviously, if you're scoring goals like that and you've got someone who can score that kind of goals, you can go a bit further
01:14:07Well done lads, thank you
01:14:09Right, two big name managers went head to head on Friday night
01:14:12New Luton Town boss Jack Wilshere, he enjoyed his first league win in senior management last weekend
01:14:16Whilst Robbie Savage made the move to National League Forest Green Rovers in the summer
01:14:21Commentary from Cameron Pope
01:14:27They've done it before, can they do so again?
01:14:30Forest Green Rovers looking to dish out a fright tonight on Halloween
01:14:34Welles
01:14:35Now then
01:14:37With a cutback for Faner
01:14:39And Luton Town lead
01:14:41It's Lamine Faner with the goal
01:14:44Kengli couldn't get the ball clear and then came the rapid wells
01:14:47It's a brilliant finish from Lamine Faner
01:14:54It's coming Bramall
01:14:56Saved by Targel
01:14:57Oh he strikes it
01:14:58And McKee Wells has scored
01:15:00A moment to forget
01:15:02For Fia Klagel
01:15:04And it's a long way back already for the National League side
01:15:10One back by Jones
01:15:12Pemberton lost it
01:15:16Couldn't find a way through it
01:15:17Might fall for Faner again
01:15:20And another
01:15:22For McKee Wells
01:15:24A shake of the head from Robbie Savage
01:15:26And a mess of Forest Green Rovers' own making
01:15:30Given away by Trey Pemberton
01:15:32And it falls slightly fortunately into the path for Faner
01:15:36He couldn't put it home
01:15:38And McKee Wells could
01:15:41But Yabu
01:15:45Options in the middle for Forest Green
01:15:47Oh, might not need them
01:15:49Oh, it's in
01:15:51And maybe there is life in them after all
01:15:56He had a lot to do from there
01:15:58Turned inside Lombeke
01:15:59And bang!
01:16:01Stick it!
01:16:02Help him!
01:16:05Fourteen was for McAllister
01:16:07Oh, now look at this then
01:16:08Whitwell
01:16:10He's in behind
01:16:12Penalty
01:16:14And he's there, Forest Green is ticking back into this cup tie
01:16:18What a lifeline
01:16:22Kyle McAllister
01:16:25Scores!
01:16:273-2
01:16:29This is what the Cubs all about
01:16:31You thought they were out of it
01:16:33McAllister right in the corner
01:16:37Pemberton's pass
01:16:38Daesh trying to hold it up for McAllister
01:16:41He's got it back
01:16:43It's Aidan Daesh
01:16:45Looking for Whitwell
01:16:47But a little bit too wide
01:16:49Found the cross anyway
01:16:51Nobody can put it home
01:16:53But Daesh is there!
01:16:55And Forest Green Rovers
01:16:58From 3-0 down
01:17:00Have got themselves back to three goals apiece
01:17:04And what a moment for Aidan Daesh as well
01:17:06Three hundred travelling support is expected
01:17:12Oh!
01:17:14Six inches of steel work away from FA Cup Magic
01:17:18He mainly thought he'd scored
01:17:22Now Luton coming alive again
01:17:26Savile forward this time
01:17:28Korya
01:17:30Yates
01:17:31Gideon Korya
01:17:33And Luton are back on track
01:17:34It took them until added time
01:17:38But this fight that they've been in
01:17:40It might just come to a happy ending for Jack Wilshere
01:17:44Just seem to find their feet at the right side
01:17:47But you have to say
01:17:49It's crawled on Forest Green
01:17:51In it goes from McAllister
01:17:54Surely now the final chance
01:17:56It's Daesh!
01:17:57Oh!
01:17:58He's put it wide!
01:18:00Into the right area
01:18:02And it was on a plate
01:18:04And Aidan Daesh
01:18:06How we will wish he could have that again
01:18:08How his manager will wish he could have that again
01:18:11Happy to be through
01:18:13And credit to Forest Green Rovers
01:18:14What they were excellent
01:18:15Their attitude was excellent
01:18:16They never gave up
01:18:17Before they liked Robbie
01:18:18And they showed that
01:18:19So credit to them
01:18:20They encapsulate what I do
01:18:21I'm proud of them
01:18:22They work hard
01:18:23They run hard
01:18:24They're in it together
01:18:25Listen it was a bit emotional after the game
01:18:27Knowing how much they give
01:18:28And see Aidan Daesh coming on scoring a goal
01:18:29Missing that chance at the end
01:18:30He was in tears
01:18:31And made me emotional
01:18:33Because that's what they want
01:18:34They want to do it for me
01:18:35And for the football club
01:18:36We've put a show on to everybody tonight
01:18:39To see what team spirit
01:18:40What togetherness we have
01:18:41And a team that fight for me
01:18:44Well well done to Robbie
01:18:45And to Jack
01:18:46Because Danny
01:18:47What a cracking cup tie that is
01:18:49That's FA Cup
01:18:50That is exactly what you want to see
01:18:52The spirit
01:18:53Robbie mentioned it
01:18:54But the spirit from Forest Green
01:18:55To come back
01:18:56From 3-0 down
01:18:57Where you'd feel
01:18:58Okay we're playing against a League One team
01:18:59Looting
01:19:00Just been relegated from the Championship
01:19:02You could just fold
01:19:04But they didn't
01:19:05They came forward
01:19:06They showed a lot of character
01:19:07And you know
01:19:08It's moments like this
01:19:09That can pick up the whole team
01:19:11And it was Tom Knowles
01:19:12Who you know
01:19:13He picks up the ball here
01:19:14Didn't really have a right to score
01:19:15But he's determined
01:19:16And that execution is brilliant
01:19:18Dion isn't it?
01:19:19Yeah it is
01:19:20He's going nowhere
01:19:21He should never even get anywhere
01:19:22Near on his right peg
01:19:24He just fumbles his way through
01:19:25He gets a deflection as well
01:19:27I mean
01:19:28Daesh here
01:19:29Just getting himself into good position
01:19:32Just floating around
01:19:33Where he's hoping the ball might land
01:19:34His mirroring is always on
01:19:36Looking to try and get any bits and bobs
01:19:38And he just
01:19:39Again he fumbles it in
01:19:41But the spirit
01:19:42Of Robbie Savage
01:19:43And the effort
01:19:44And you know
01:19:45The grit
01:19:46And the work rate
01:19:47Comes from the manager
01:19:48And they get themselves back in it
01:19:50Yep absolutely
01:19:51And Jack Wilshere
01:19:52Won the FA Cup twice
01:19:53As a player with Arsenal
01:19:54In 2014
01:19:55And 2015
01:19:56Let's also talk about
01:19:58Aidan Daesh
01:19:59Because that miss
01:20:00He will be
01:20:01Thinking about this
01:20:03Forever
01:20:04It's a moment
01:20:05That you dream for
01:20:06As it lands to you
01:20:07You're thinking
01:20:08Yes this is my moment
01:20:09You've already had a
01:20:10You know you've come back
01:20:11You've gone 4-3 down
01:20:12And then you see it
01:20:14Probably saying everyone get up
01:20:15Just get in the box
01:20:16Everybody
01:20:17You know a chance could come
01:20:18And here it is
01:20:19And you don't make connection with it
01:20:20And the feeling
01:20:21Is awful
01:20:22You can see it
01:20:23You can feel it
01:20:24The fact that he's wounded
01:20:25It's your big moment
01:20:26Your big chance
01:20:27And after scoring
01:20:28He'd have been confident
01:20:29And he doesn't quite make it
01:20:30And there you go
01:20:31You know what
01:20:32In that moment
01:20:34He's thinking
01:20:35Just hit the target
01:20:36He's actually concentrating too much
01:20:38Too much
01:20:39He's gone with the side foot
01:20:40Myself and Danny
01:20:41Would have gone laces
01:20:42Would have just gone laces
01:20:43Just put your foot through it
01:20:44Lots of power
01:20:45He's trying to be too careful
01:20:46And he gets it wrong
01:20:47And he'll be
01:20:49He'll be thinking about it now
01:20:51And tomorrow
01:20:52And the next day
01:20:53I'm just thinking
01:20:54When I see Robbie there
01:20:55And obviously
01:20:56We've all worked with Robbie
01:20:57When he's standing there
01:20:58At the touchline
01:20:59Obviously very proud of his team
01:21:00Whether he's thinking
01:21:01Goodness me
01:21:02It's easier doing the punditry you know
01:21:04It's less stressful
01:21:05Doing the punditry
01:21:06Or doing Radio 5 Live
01:21:08That's for sure
01:21:09But in terms of Jack Wilshire
01:21:10Potential to be a cracking manager as well
01:21:12Yeah he's new to the job
01:21:13But he's gone away
01:21:14And done his yards
01:21:15In the under-21s
01:21:16You know
01:21:17Age groups and so on
01:21:18And he's serious about it
01:21:19You can see that
01:21:20And his team
01:21:21His team are now putting
01:21:22A good bit of form together
01:21:23And they're responding to him
01:21:24Yeah well they've won
01:21:25Three of their four games
01:21:26Under Jack
01:21:27Thank you very much
01:21:28Right let's finish
01:21:29With the rest of Saturday's
01:21:30All Football League ties
01:21:31Starting with Huddersfield's
01:21:32Trip to Bolton
01:21:33Two former FA Cup winners and two teams who'd rather not be starting this early
01:21:42Bolton in particular have a poor recent record in the first round
01:21:45But they were given enough time and space for Ibrahim Sissoko to think
01:21:49Play an accidental 1-2 with a defender and score his first goal for the club
01:21:54That lead stayed intact until just after the hour mark when Ruben Roskens cross tempted Bolton keeper Tyler Miller to wander allowing Bojan Radulovic to equalise
01:22:05In the league game last month Bolton snatched it right at the end this time they made sure earlier Richard Taylor like Sissoko scoring his first Wanderers goal his proved to be the winner
01:22:17Cardiff City travelled to Peterborough United fresh from reaching the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup in midweek
01:22:27They hadn't been beaten in the first round of the FA Cup since 1994
01:22:31Peterborough took the lead when Jimmy J Morgan in space found Harry Lennard who produced a crisp finish
01:22:37Cardiff had plenty of the ball but rarely tested Posh
01:22:40Desperate for an equaliser keeper Nathan Trott was pushed forward
01:22:44And bizarrely even engineered a rare attempt on the Peterborough goal with a final action of the match
01:22:49This though was a sweet victory for Peterborough manager Luke Williams in his first match in charge
01:22:57With neither side flying in the league you might have expected this to be a bit closer
01:23:01But it was a dominant win for Wickham with 20 shots to Plymouth 4 over the course of the game
01:23:06The only surprise was that they had to wait till midway through the second half to finally break the deadlock
01:23:11A clumsy challenge, a penalty given and Corley Woodrow calmly converted it
01:23:16They didn't have to wait too long to double the score
01:23:19That old adage of if at first you don't succeed try try again worked out
01:23:23Woodrow eventually getting his second as the ball squirmed under the keeper
01:23:27Though they had Connor Taylor sent off from the dying minutes this was very much Wickham's day
01:23:32It's fair to say the regulars at Hayes Lane won't have seen Bromley win at home in the FA Cup proper
01:23:40The last time they did it was 1938
01:23:43And Bristol Rovers were intent on further denying them the pleasure
01:23:47Swiss forward Fabrizio Cavain worked an angle magnificently
01:23:51Just three minutes later Rovers were in a game
01:23:55This time Cavain signed from Vaduz in Liechtenstein spotted Joel Cottrell
01:24:00And he made it too in the 79th minute
01:24:03It seemed that would be that
01:24:06But Bromley had a late tilt against their unfortunate history
01:24:09Jamiya Umolu squeezed a goal back
01:24:12Seven minutes of the 90 to go
01:24:14Game back on
01:24:15Into stoppage time
01:24:17Bromley free kick
01:24:18And another header from Omar Sawunmi
01:24:21Seem to have taken this to extra time
01:24:23But no
01:24:24Foul given
01:24:25Bromley furious
01:24:26Their unhappy home cup run goes on
01:24:33Promotion chasing Milton Keynes Doms manager Paul Warne brought his side to Colchester United
01:24:38Looking to continue some of that hungry warrior spirit that has taken them to 4th in League 2
01:24:43But it was Colchester who took a 26 minute lead
01:24:46When Micah Mbick spotted keeper Conal Truman coming off his line
01:24:50And found the net from 30 yards
01:24:52MK Doms equalised when Aaron Namani's pass found Roushian Hepburn Murphy
01:24:57And his shot deflected in off goalkeeper Matt Mason
01:25:01Colchester no respecters of reputation restored their lead
01:25:05Harry Anderson the provider for Mbick's opener
01:25:08With a strictly footwork and finish for 2-1
01:25:11Hepburn Murphy was at it again for the Doms
01:25:14Neatly collecting Nathaniel Mendez Lang's pass
01:25:17And finishing smartly
01:25:18This was the first ever FA Cup meeting between these League 2 rivals
01:25:22And on a day for sharpshooters Joe Tomlinson grabbed the winner three minutes from time
01:25:27To make light of having twice been behind
01:25:29Sitting 10th and 12th in the League there's not much between these sides
01:25:37So maybe it wasn't surprising some quite special goals were needed to separate them
01:25:41Fleetwood's opener from Zek Medley was good
01:25:44Their second late in the second half was really good
01:25:49A thumping volley from Harrison Holgate
01:25:52Barnett's goal a minute from time was probably the best of the lot
01:25:56Callumstead's curling shot into the top corner
01:25:59It made for a nervy end to the game
01:26:01But the Cod army march on
01:26:03Rodney parade has been a gloomy place of late
01:26:09Newport County bottom of League 2 without a home win since March
01:26:13So when Gillingham chasing promotion in the same division
01:26:16Took the lead through Elliot Nevitt
01:26:18A dark deja vu could have set in
01:26:20And yet later in the half a Newport corner caused sufficient confusion
01:26:25To give Cameron Evans the space he needed to equalise
01:26:28The Jills are having a dip themselves recently
01:26:31And in extra time County pounced
01:26:34Cameron Antwi's strike seemed to have given them the win they'd long waited for
01:26:38But with Newport just now there's always time for something to go wrong
01:26:42Their former lone striker Cameron Palmer Holden smashed Gillingham level
01:26:46In the final minutes of extra time
01:26:48And so to penalties where the Jills ran out of puff
01:26:51Romeo Hutton and then Sam Vokes missed
01:26:54Giving Ben Lloyd the chance to send Newport through
01:26:57This was the kind of night they have so sorely needed
01:27:01And big thanks to Damian Johnson, Tania Arnold and Patrick Geary
01:27:06For rounding up all the FA Cup stories first tonight

01:27:48Colin Addison who's passed away at the age of 85

01:27:57Also led the Bulls into the Football League for the first time in the club's history
01:28:01The thoughts of everyone at BBC Sport are with Colin's friends and family
01:28:07A wonderful man
01:28:11I worked with him at Merthyr Tiddeville Football Club
01:28:13And I watched his Newport County side in the early 80s
01:28:16A real football man with a brilliant football incentive
