A cinema remake of the classic sitcom. The Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard platoon deal with a visiting female journalist and a German spy as World War II draws to its conclusion.
Transcript
00:01Captain Mallory, we have discovered something exciting.
00:04The female characters are much stronger in the film
00:08than they were in the original series.
00:10What sort of language is that? German dance.
00:12We really do up the stakes in this
00:14with the introduction of Catherine's character Rose.
00:16She really comes in and messes things up for the guys.
00:21Thank you, Walker.
00:23In comes an Associated Press journalist to do an article
00:27specifically on the Home Guard for Lady magazine.
00:30Us? In a real magazine?
00:32We're going out in a world landscape, eh?
00:34You know, she's incredibly beautiful, she's incredibly glamorous
00:37and the way that she is able to play Mannering and Wilson off of one another.
00:42What a remarkable thing.
00:44So you can imagine these men who are waiting here in Warmington-on-Sea
00:48have some celebrity status all of a sudden.
00:52Always in the stories, you're looking for something
00:54that's going to expose everyone's foibles.
00:57And bringing a beautiful woman in with her own agenda
01:01allows everyone to be exposed in, I hope, very funny ways.
01:06The female characters are very much in the background in the teleseries
01:09and part of the charm is you never really see Mrs. Mannering.
01:12And it's almost sacrilegious, I know, to give her full form.
01:15Attention to detail, ladies.
01:18At the same time, it does push the characters around in a different way.
01:21Wonderful sight.
01:24Man and woman united in common course.
01:27And we've got Mrs. Fox, my lovely new friend Alison Steadman.
01:31I saw that, Jack Jones. You just slipped her a sausage.
01:34I didn't mean nothing by it.
01:36My other lovely new friend, Sarah Lancashire.
01:39It's a joy to be with such gifted people.
