Residents call for Prince Andrew Street to be renamed

00:04having his title stripped due to controversies do people here in Kent

00:08think the name should be changed? I do yes I'm I'm moving back in I've been

00:13away for a year so today I've been phoning gas people electricity water and

00:20of course I asked your address and I have been a bit embarrassed. You can still

00:24leave the name the street name in his name because the controversy has

00:31happened it has happened for me for the fact they are doing something about it

00:38you know maybe giving him a query or other things you know the the name of the

00:45street can still remain you know for me it doesn't bother me it doesn't mean

00:51anything to me yeah changing the name now we bring a sort of confusion to some

00:59people. Do you think the Prince Andrew Road street name should be changed? Yes I do

01:04Why? Well because when I went to buy something even yesterday and you have to

01:10give you a dress and the man who was selling it to me said that's not a very

01:14nice address to have is it why can't they change it to just not Prince just

01:20Andrew. I spoke with many other residents about the street name who did

01:24not want to appear on camera some said it was just a street name and changing it

01:29could be confusing especially for some older residents while many others said

01:33they would like it changed as a sign itself often sees graffiti and vandalism. A

01:38spokesperson for the Thanet District Council said that street names are

01:41usually decided by developers and go through a street naming process. Any change

01:46Joe's street name must be agreed by 100% of that street's residents as changes can

01:51incur costs to individuals. In the event of an application to change the name of

01:56Prince Andrew Road and Broadstairs the request would most likely be made via the

02:00parish council to the Thanet District Council street naming and numering

02:04department. To date the council has not received an application to do so. While

02:08opinions remain divided on whether or not to change it the Prince Andrew Road
