00:00Some strong comments from Senator Sarah Henderson this morning talking about Susan Lee's leadership
00:08and the party more broadly, saying that she thinks it's the worst position it's ever been
00:12in since she began in Parliament in 2013, saying it's dire, she doesn't support the
00:19way things are going right now.
00:21Of course, the Liberal Party has been facing these ongoing discussions and this internal
00:26battle about net zero, particularly over recent days, of course, since the Nationals, their
00:31junior coalition party, decided to dump the pledge to reach net zero by 2050.
00:38And of course, ever since becoming the leader of the Liberal Party, Susan Lee has really faced
00:42rolling challenges, think Jacinta Nappajimpa-Price and Andrew Hastie.
00:46But nonetheless, these are strong comments from Sarah Henderson this morning.
00:50Take a listen.
00:50We know things are dire at the moment and I can't pretend that things are going well.
00:59And I would be, I would not be speaking the truth.
01:02I would not be authentic if I tried to pretend that things were going OK.
01:07Look, I think there's increasing concern in our party as to the way we are going.
01:12Now, Sarah Henderson did lose her position as a shadow minister under Susan Lee's leadership
01:19and she said at the time when that happened that she was very disappointed.
01:22Now, we've come down here to this Liberal function where they're meeting with various
01:27business groups to speak to some of Susan Lee's comments.
01:30We know that the leader herself is inside, but we haven't actually seen her yet.
01:34But we've seen some of her colleagues, including Angus Taylor, Dave Sharma.
01:39And look, a number of them have sought to hose down this idea that there's any threat
01:44under Susan Lee's leadership.
01:46Sarah Henderson says that Susan Lee is in support within the party room.
01:50Do you agree?
01:51No, I don't think that's right.
01:52Is her leadership still safe?
01:54Yes, it is.
01:55I think Susan is well established as leader and will be with us through the next election.
02:01Are you planning to roll her?
02:03Absolutely not.
02:05Now, as for the next steps for the Liberal Party in terms of net zero, the MPs, the entire
02:11party room are coming back here to Canberra on Wednesday.
02:14They're going to thrash out their position on net zero.
02:17The following day, Thursday, the shadow ministry will meet.
02:20And then on Sunday, they'll hold this joint virtual meeting with the nationals as a coalition
02:26to try and reach some sort of position on net zero.
02:29But of course, as I already mentioned, the nationals have dumped the pledge.
