00:03The U.S. Senate works through the weekend as the shutdown hits Day 39.

00:07The Democrat leader's proposal is a non-starter.

00:13There's still only one path out.

00:16It's a clean funding extension.

00:19The House has already passed a clean funding extension.

00:23The president supports one and would sign it into law immediately.

00:28Senate Majority Leader John Thune called for senators to continue working until a deal

00:32is made.

00:33On Friday, Senate Democrats propose a new deal.

00:36The proposal says they'll immediately vote to reopen the government in exchange for a

00:40one-year extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies.

00:43I know many Republicans stormed out the gate to dismiss this offer, but that's a terrible

00:48mistake.

00:49Our offer is not a new policy.

00:51This is not negotiating in a shutdown.

00:53It's simply agreeing to maintain current funding levels.

00:57Senator Lindsey Graham says the plan will cost Americans too much money.

01:00There is a better way.

01:02We're going to insist on that better way.

01:05And to my Democratic friends, we're not going to extend this program for a year because that

01:15would be unfair to the taxpayer.

01:18Following Friday's no vote, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen said Democrats need another path forward.

01:23She added they are working on it.
