00:11The actor jumped into the Insta fray late Thursday and racked up over 2 million followers within just a few hours.

00:18Depp began by posting a photo of himself in what appeared to be a candlelit cave,

00:22where he explained that he was filming something for his fans.

00:24Within hours, he was back with an 8-minute video in which he further explained his decision to join the social platform.

00:30Now is the time to open up a dialogue.

00:34The actor explained that the open dialogue is in response to the immeasurable tragedies and damage the pandemic has caused.

00:40The Pirates of the Caribbean actor urged his new followers to take care of one another during this ongoing pandemic

00:45and to keep active and inspired.

00:47We cannot and must not succumb to shutting down and giving in to what feels like hellish quarantine monotony.

00:54Depp also offered advice on how to stay positive during these dark times.
