Are Melissa McCarthy And Sandra Bullock Friends

00:00When you're an actor, you usually have to build some sort of rapport with your co-stars.

00:05After all, you need the right chemistry on screen, even when you're working around the clock,

00:09often in grueling conditions. And while some movie stars have been involved in some very bitter feuds,

00:14other actors have become super close as a result of their work.

00:18Such is the case for Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, who both starred in the 2013 buddy cop

00:23comedy-action film The Heat. The two played best friends on screen, which then translated

00:29into a real-life bond. According to The Heat director Paul Feig, McCarthy and Bullock's

00:34friendship is a rare feat in Hollywood. He later told Parade,

00:38"...they were inseparable. Normally after movies, those friendships go away. Theirs blossomed."

00:43This might seem like a surprising development, considering how McCarthy and Bullock weren't

00:47even friends prior to filming. They had mutual friends, sure, but they had never met each other

00:52before. McCarthy told People magazine,

00:54"...when people found out we were doing this thing, I got between 12 and 15 calls saying,

00:58you're about to meet the greatest girl in the world."

01:01And during their first encounter, she confessed to being a nervous wreck.

01:04McCarthy remembered,

01:06"...I was like, oh my god, I'm going to get a call from Sandra Bullock,

01:08and I was still saying first and last name. I could only say Sandra Bullock."

01:12The two ended up hitting it off, however, and the rest, as they say, is history.

01:16Shortly after the film's release, McCarthy remembered how much fun she'd had on set with Bullock

01:21during an interview on Good Morning America.

01:23"...it was so fun every day. It's like we're just torturing each other but

01:27laughing at the same time. And she's so funny and so nice. Yeah, every day was kind of a real treat."

01:33It seems like the reason why McCarthy and Bullock were able to click right away is that they're

01:37pretty much the same person. Bullock claims that they even have the same hobbies and interests

01:42outside of acting. In an interview with Look magazine, she said,

01:45"...our rhythms are different, but we worked so well together. We made so many connections.

01:50Every day was heaven. One minute we were taunting each other, and the next we were having great fun.

01:55It was fireworks, because we are really similar."

01:57And their favorite form of bonding? Home decor and playdates, apparently.

02:02Bullock added,

02:03"...we have similar obsessions, like renovating, so we were comparing design tips."

02:07Even their kids are friends, as they would often set playdates among their youngsters.

02:11And McCarthy and Bullock have also taken their kids trick-or-treating together.

02:15In the same interview, Bullock revealed,

02:17"...my son is three and her youngest is the same age. The kids got along so well from the start."

02:22Bullock's son Louie and Melissa's two daughters, Vivian and Georgette, have since built a friendship

02:27that replicates that of their famous mothers. McCarthy herself even described their children's

02:32relationship as something special. In 2013, she told E! News,

02:36"...Louie was my Georgie's first friend her own age. And all three of our kids, my two kids and her boy,

02:42they still play together. They have a special relationship."

02:45But it doesn't end here. Since McCarthy's kids are both girls,

02:48Louie would sometimes come to their defense. When Paul Feig pointed out that Louie was very

02:53protective over the girls, McCarthy added,

02:55"...he literally does this straight arm and pushes you away and puts his hands up and backs

02:59the girls up." Apparently, he once did this with some paparazzi lurking around the set.

03:04Feig joked,

03:05He punched out two paparazzi during filming. And McCarthy agreed,

03:09"...you're not going to want to mess with Louie. He's a tough cookie."

03:12Of course, a fun bonus to all this is that The Heat itself became a box office hit,

03:16earning almost $230 million worldwide. It's arguably thanks to McCarthy and Bullock's

03:22genuine bond that it turned out to be a global success, too. Speaking about the film, Bullock said,

03:27"...I think this ended up being a very, very sweet love story. I mean, every movie is a love story,

03:33but this one just happens to be amongst friends."
