00:00Well, here we are, the final event of the competition, and we are with Gabby Dailman,
00:08Senior Women's Champion at the Skate Canada Challenge. Gabby, congratulations.
00:14Tell me about your skates this weekend.
00:16My skates this weekend, honestly, they were a fight. I didn't feel the greatest, but I knew, just come here, get a job done, get a check mark,
00:26one step up, one step close to the Nationals, one step towards the final goal, and I'm definitely ready to go back home,
00:33take a few days, and then regather and get ready for Nationals.
00:36So, it's actually been a while since you've competed at this level. What's been going on?
00:42Stress. It's definitely been interesting. It was nice to be back, having done a Challenge or a Nationals in three, four years.
00:52It's been a long road back, but it definitely feels great to be here.
00:56So, let's talk about that long road back, because besides the physical, there's a mental aspect to coming back to competition.
01:03What have you done to prepare for both, and was one harder than the other?
01:07Honestly, it sounds weird, but the physical was almost easier than the mental.
01:13The mental, the first time around, was just crying every day, like, in the trenches, mental health in the gutter,
01:21and then, second time around, after the second surgery, it was, okay, like, we need to lock in, we have a year out to the games,
01:27you want to be back, you want to go with no regrets, and I just really changed the mindset, and I knew, like, you have the talent,
01:34you love this sport, you love what you do, just keep going, and just have no regrets, don't give up.
01:41So, you've also changed your training location.
01:43I did.
01:44And you are in Barrie now?
01:45No, I'm in Colorado now.
01:47Oh, Colorado!
01:48Alright, and how's that?
01:49It's good.
01:50Definitely, altitude gets me in shape.
01:53It's great, I love training with Amber Glenn, I love my facility, and I have my great coaches in Canada,
02:01and it's just an overall incredible team.
02:03So, your motivation for this year?
02:05Yes.
02:06What was it, or what is it?
02:08I don't like people telling me what to do, really, and I just didn't want my story to end with surgeries or injury,
02:16I wanted to come back, give it everything I got, have no regrets, and just do what I love.
02:21I started this sport loving it, and I wanted to end it loving it.
02:24Did you find stepping away for a little bit, because of the injury, that you realized how much you did love it?
02:30I think I always knew I loved it, I think it just made me realize how much more I loved it,
02:35because the injury happened so unexpectedly, and then that happened again,
02:39so it was just three years of constant, awful injuries that two needed surgery from,
02:43so having those made me just truly appreciate my sport and what I'm able to do,
02:49and how lucky I am to do what I do.
02:51Well, I have to say, it's great to have you back.
02:54Thank you, Debbie.
02:55And to be able to watch you.
02:57I'm looking forward to Gatineau, and everything that nationals has been doing.
03:00I'm excited to be back at my first nationals of four years.
03:02Yes.
03:03Well, we are looking forward to seeing you there, and in an amazing competition.
03:07Good luck with your training, and look forward to seeing you there.
03:09Thank you so much.
