00:00MCA's efforts to keep Barisan National from cooperating with DAP stem not from principle,

00:07but from a desire to secure its political survival, an analyst says.

00:12Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani Ahmad Sabri of Global Asia Consulting said MCA had only two parliamentary seats,

00:20placing it in a precarious position following the internal agreement between BN and Pakatan Harapan

00:25to maintain seats for the party that won them in the last election.

00:30He added that if BN continues to work with DAP, it means MCA will have no room to contest elsewhere.

00:36He pointed to APCO's experience before the Sabah state election,

00:41saying it would have missed out on its desired seats if it had remained aligned with PH.

00:47Zaharuddin also said MIC and MCA are using the same approach,

00:51threatening BN because they want seats and they want to contest many seats,

00:56winning many more votes and hence more influence.

00:58He was commenting on a resolution which MCA passed at its annual General Assembly on Sunday,

01:05rejecting any form of cooperation with DAP in the 16th general election.
