00:00Google adds a warning for scammy phone calls on Android.
00:04Google is rolling out a new safety feature for Android users,
00:07and it basically acts like that friend who whispers don't do it
00:10when you're about to buy something questionable online at 2 a.m.
00:14The feature?
00:15Expanded in call scam protection,
00:17designed to keep people from getting conned mid-conversation
00:20with someone pretending to be their bank,
00:22or a concerned Amazon security specialist
00:25who somehow always sounds suspiciously like a YouTuber with a voice changer.
00:30Here's how it works.
00:31If you're on a call with a number that's not saved in your contacts
00:33and you open a banking or payment app,
00:36Android will now flash a giant warning that says,
00:39essentially, something sketchy is happening.
00:41Want to stop?
00:42With one tap, you can hang up or stop any screen sharing.
00:46If you ignore it, the system forces a 30-second wait before you can proceed,
00:50giving your brain a chance to override panic mode.
00:53And remember that real banks do not ask you to just quickly open Cash App.
00:57The feature works on phones running Android 11 or later,
01:00which means most modern Android devices are covered.
01:03Google says this will protect against one of the most common scam playbooks,
01:07callers impersonating trusted institutions
01:09while rushing victims into transferring money or exposing sensitive apps.
01:15There's a strategy behind that forced pause, too.
01:18Scammers rely on pressure and urgency,
01:19and 30 seconds is apparently just enough time to go from,
01:23oh, no, my money, to wait.
01:24This seems shady.
01:25Google also claims Android users are already falling for fewer scams than iPhone users,
01:31a very subtle flex in the ongoing Apple versus Android rivalry.
01:36The feature first launched in the U.K. earlier this year,
01:38where Google says it prevented thousands of potential fraud attempts.
01:42Now it's rolling out in the U.S.,
01:44starting with big names like Cash App and JPMorgan Chase,
01:46with more financial apps joining soon.
01:55Google says before you are saying that there are tests that are
02:15just coming from saying it will be true.
