We talk with co-founder of Coolhaus ice cream Natasha Case about Coachella 2015!
Transcript
00:00Welcome to Cool House.
00:09So, architecturally inspired ice cream.
00:12What is that?
00:13It's a couple different things, but my background is in architecture.
00:15So, I really wanted to make architecture fun and accessible for people.
00:19The name of the company after Rem Koolhaas the architect and Bauhaus.
00:22And we do like Mies Vanilla Rose, our chocolate chip vanilla, and mintamalism.
00:26So, we have fun with the wordplay.
00:28And then questioning different things about how things that we take for granted are done.
00:32For example, packaging.
00:33Our sandwiches come in edible paper when they're served from our trucks and our stores.
00:37So, you can eat that when you're done.
00:39You don't leave a mess.
00:40And we can brand that paper with edible ink.
00:42And this is your, how many years have you been at Coachella?
00:44This is our seventh year.
00:45So, how has it changed over the seven years?
00:47It's been a revolution.
00:48I mean, first we were the only truck at Coachella the first year we went in 2009.
00:52They didn't allow trucks.
00:53We had to be in the campground, which was actually great because it was a captive audience.
00:56And we could build a following over the days.
00:59Now, it's overloaded with fashion and content, culture.
01:02I mean, it's just mayhem there.
01:04But it's awesome.
01:05For us even, you know, before we've just done ice cream sandwiches, this year we've got our Stumptown coffee.
01:10Cold and hot brew.
01:11So, we could do affogados.
01:12We have pop shop popsicles and flavors like avocado vanilla.
01:16We've never sold them before.
01:17So, we have even some very different things in our own booth that you wouldn't normally be able to get.
01:22Who would you want to see?
01:23This year, definitely Kai'Sa.
01:25Definitely, there's some of the Wu-Tang, I think.
01:27Some of the Wu-Tang clans perform, which will be cool.
01:29ACDC will be awesome.
01:30Drake is going to be awesome.
01:32There's so much, you know, amazing spanning the generations of music.
01:36We've actually made sandwiches for artists that are performing.
01:39So, for Santa Gold, we made Santa Gold strawberry with edible gold flakes.
01:43For Group Love, we did Scoop Love, which was salted caramel.
01:46We've done a Gary Clark Jr. Whiskey Lucky Charm sandwich.
01:49Someone picked up sandwiches for Snoop one year.
01:51So, we've had a lot of them, you know, come and experience the truck.
01:55And, you know, it's coming from the inside, too.
01:57Coachella has curated these restaurants.
01:59They go out and they find the partners they want to be there.
02:01It's not just like a random, whatever, festival food.
02:04It's like, here's who we want to represent us at Coachella as far as food is concerned.
02:08So, give us some other tips of who to make sure to check out in addition to you guys while we're there.
02:13We have, okay, we have a friend.
02:14I know he's got his beef jerky out there, Three Jerks Jerky.
02:16You know, Roy Choi's got some great stuff going out there.
02:19You guys are, I think, going to talk to Beer Belly, he said.
02:22That's very cool.
02:23So, a lot of the Asian fusion food that's going on.
02:25Just a lot of good stuff.
02:27Well, I'm so excited.
02:28We're going to eat this all weekend.
02:29I think this is all I'm going to eat.
02:30Yeah.
02:38meaning it's all right.
02:39I very much.
02:40This is theND.
02:41It's all right.
