00:00I'll tell you what's happening to me right now as far as I can feel it, right?
00:09It's just this, I am going to really fight today the, I want to own it and I love it,
00:18so I'm going to buy it, relevant to nice little earner.
00:21Once it gets through your gate, you might not want to get out.
00:24I don't need to be coming out.
00:26I'm Henry Cole. That is comfy.
00:31And along with fellow fanatic Fuzz Townsend.
00:34That's a magnificent pair of choppers up there.
00:36We're back on the hunt for vintage treasures in the nation's sheds.
00:41Look at this.
00:42We're going to buy them, fix them.
00:44That is fantastic.
00:46And sell them for a tidy profit.
00:49Welcome to Shed and Buried.
00:56We're off to Southend in Essex.
01:02We are going to revisit Graham.
01:05I know, I know. Now that, as I recall, was a fantastic shed.
01:09That's why we're revisiting, mate.
01:11Yeah.
01:12Do you know what I mean?
01:13Because he changes his stock more than he changes his shirt.
01:16Yeah.
01:17That's good.
01:18There's plenty of opportunities.
01:19He's mainly, he's told me.
01:21Yeah.
01:22The reason why we're going back is because he's got rid of a lot of the cars.
01:26Okay.
01:27And he's getting more and more involved in motorcycle sales.
01:30Excellent.
01:31I seem to recall he had a thing for, um, he had a thing for Hondas, didn't he?
01:36Oh, yeah.
01:37Yeah, he did, yeah.
01:38He had one of those tents full of Hondas.
01:40That's right.
01:41He didn't want to let any of his Hondas go last week.
01:43No, well, that's okay.
01:44There's going to be plenty of other stuff.
01:45Yeah.
01:46Whether we do manage to get a hand on his Hondas, or whether he repels all borders,
01:53who knows?
01:54But Southend, here we come.
01:59Your collection just gets bigger and bigger, doesn't it?
02:02Yeah.
02:03Yeah.
02:04Are you sort of moving towards the motorcycles more in your old age?
02:06Yeah.
02:07Gone back to my youth.
02:08Yeah, gone back to my youth.
02:09Have you?
02:10Yeah, just selling stuff that I was selling 30 years ago.
02:12Really?
02:13I seem to remember you like collecting Hondas.
02:15Now, are you letting any of those go yet?
02:17Yeah.
02:18Those sort of like 60s and 70s?
02:19No.
02:20No, I didn't think so.
02:21Don't be like that.
02:22Come on.
02:23They're really lovely.
02:24If we find something, you might be able to twist your arm.
02:25Yeah.
02:26You're smaller than me.
02:27Yeah?
02:28Yeah, you're right.
02:29He isn't, though.
02:30That's all right.
02:31So there's a few things that are out of bounds.
02:33Yeah.
02:34We might be able to persuade you on a lot of bikes.
02:37Yeah.
02:38Yeah.
02:3975% of it, yeah.
02:40Oh, okay, that's cool.
02:41All right, sounds great.
02:42There's plenty in there.
02:43Sounds great.
02:44But I just can't wait to get here.
02:45Shall we just get here?
02:46Yeah, come on.
02:47Shall we just get here?
02:48Well...
02:50Take any tea with me.
02:51Happy days.
02:52I'll see you in a bit.
02:53You'll let me know, yeah?
02:54You'll see you in a bit.
02:55All right, mate.
02:56It ain't just a shed, it's a cavern, ram-packed full of automotive treasure.
03:09Isn't this a US spec?
03:12Oh, probably because there's the reflectors here.
03:14Oh, right, yeah.
03:15But look, I've got to tell you, mate, these Z650s, they were always the poor man's Z1.
03:20But I've got to tell you, man, over these last few years, they're coming of age.
03:25The Kawasaki Z650 was an air-cooled, 120-mile-an-hour pocket rocket, which, though smaller than the Z1, never had an inferiority complex.
03:40It was a big hit in the US.
03:45There's something quite sort of individual about them.
03:48Well, do you know, I didn't used to like the American spec bars.
03:51I didn't used to like high bars, but now I'm getting that little bit older.
03:55I like to be a tiny bit more upright.
03:58Hey, look, mate.
03:59High bars and electric start as the future.
04:02Yes.
04:03OK?
04:04Because it ain't going to get any better, baby.
04:05Yeah?
04:06That's true.
04:07All right?
04:08We're not suddenly going to grow a new leg that actually kicks things.
04:12It's not going to happen.
04:13Right?
04:14No.
04:15And even if you get a new knee, it's going to absolutely mess it up, isn't it?
04:17We're just decomposing.
04:18Yeah.
04:19OK, so what we've got to do is identify the bikes that will see us through into our 80s.
04:23Well, this is one of them, yeah.
04:24And that means an electric start.
04:25Yeah, this is definitely one.
04:26For something from the same period that's a little less powerful but just as refined,
04:33he's got a parakeet yellow Honda 404.
04:38Isn't that just utterly stunning?
04:41It is.
04:42That's a beautiful bike and a great layout, a great format.
04:46Four cylinders, for me, is really the pinnacle when it comes to a bike.
04:52At least four gives you that smoothness and gives you that power even out of a 400.
04:58Yeah.
04:59What a brilliant piece of engineering that is.
05:01The major problem with these is the bank of four carburettors.
05:04Yeah.
05:05Once they're cleaned and beautifully sorted out, then they'll just run forever.
05:09He'd ride that to Scotland now if the carbons were done.
05:13Graham's collection is not exclusively Japanese.
05:17He's got a Ducati Paso, a yellow Triton and a nice looking Harley.
05:24But it's the Japanese bikes that we keep on coming back to because they bring back so many memories.
05:32I used to have one of these until Guy wrote it off by hitting a tree when I was at school.
05:36Yeah.
05:37This is a lovely thing.
05:38So, hold on.
05:39What?
05:40DT400.
05:41Yeah.
05:42What age are we looking at here?
05:43They're 70s.
05:44Yeah?
05:45You know?
05:46So, yeah, 74, 75.
05:47Yeah.
05:48Why is it not on its stand?
05:49Why is it leaning up against them?
05:50Perhaps there's something wrong with it.
05:52But I've got to tell you, man, these things, if they're not set up right...
05:55Oh, here we go.
05:56Yeah, look.
05:57What?
05:58Oh, that's broken.
05:59Yeah, okay.
06:00Well, if they're not set up right, they're really difficult to start, these things.
06:04Yeah.
06:05Oh, my God!
06:06Now, these are a formidable looking bike.
06:14No, look, please.
06:15Let me just take it in.
06:17So, my favourite bike of all time, I have two of these at home, GSXR 750.
06:22Probably the super bike that changed the world.
06:29Introduced in 1985, the GSXR 750 revolutionised motorcycling.
06:35A production bike, which was almost identical to Suzuki's race bikes.
06:41It was fast, light and rode as beautifully as it looked.
06:46This thing won everything when it came out.
06:49It was a total game-changer.
06:51Like the 750 Honda in 68.
06:53Yeah.
06:54In 85, this came out and changed the world.
06:57This is on a C, but this isn't a British paint job.
07:00Can I just tell you, there's a fuel gauge.
07:03That is a Japanese import.
07:05Well, in that case, it's 54,000 kilometres, isn't it?
07:07Yeah.
07:08So, what's that?
07:0930,000 miles?
07:1035,000.
07:11Yeah.
07:12I mean, it's still quite a lot of mileage, but at the same time, it's got a Yoshimura exhaust
07:14pipe, and it's got a Japanese original colour scheme that is very, very rare here.
07:20There's something about it that I think is great.
07:23It could take a bit of detailing, and yeah, it could take a bit of rest, though, as well.
07:27Yeah, it could.
07:28But with careful detailing, you've got a very original bike here.
07:33Yeah.
07:34And with that, you've got value, I think, in the future.
07:37Oh, yeah.
07:38I don't like it a lot.
07:39Okay, we've got a bit of a knocked-up fairing, so it looks like it's had a bit of action, hasn't
07:43it?
07:44Yeah, we've got issues.
07:45There's a lot of issues, actually, fairing-wise.
07:46Yeah.
07:47There's a big crack here.
07:48That's a shame, man.
07:49I think it's been sideways.
07:50I think it's been sideways.
07:51I think it's been on the floor as well.
07:53Yeah.
07:54So a thoroughbred, but one that's got obvious issues.
07:59And for something even bigger and equally iconic, you couldn't get better than this huge Honda.
08:07CVX six-cylinder.
08:09Yeah.
08:10This is the Z model.
08:11But they are a monster of a bike, aren't they?
08:13They are.
08:14And six cylinders on a bike is an incredible feat, really, isn't it?
08:18And rare.
08:19Yeah.
08:20Oh, my God, the smoothness of the engine is a delight.
08:24I can believe it.
08:25The power delivery is divine.
08:26Yeah.
08:27Is this a Henry bike?
08:28Yeah, of course it is.
08:29Or is it a SPQR?
08:30It's a Henry bike.
08:31Yeah.
08:32We do need to find ourselves a nice little earner, though.
08:36So is it going to be a Kawasaki, a Honda, a Suzuki, or even...
08:43I tell you what, looking at that FZ, that is lovely.
08:45It looks good enough to be in somebody's collection, doesn't it?
08:48Oh, yes.
08:49OK, so look.
08:50We've got the FZ 750.
08:51We've got the slab side out there.
08:53We've got the yellow 404.
08:55Yeah.
08:56Should we go and see where else?
08:57Yeah.
08:58OK, let's get some prices.
08:59You never know.
09:00Might be able to afford more than you know.
09:07Do you know what?
09:08I even thought about buying the Ducati Paso.
09:10That's how confused I am.
09:12Really?
09:13I really don't know where to start.
09:16So the thing that has caught my eye is that little Honda 404, the yellow one.
09:21Oh, yeah.
09:22Yeah.
09:23So is that for sale?
09:24Yeah.
09:25Yeah?
09:26That's the sales one, yeah.
09:27What sort of price would you like for that?
09:29Yeah.
09:30It's got to be close to 5k.
09:31What about the Gixxer, which does need a little bit of work?
09:34Yeah, no, that is a little bit.
09:35Oh, the slab is, yes.
09:36That is a little bit.
09:37Mint ones of those, as you know, they're six, seven grand.
09:40Three grand.
09:43Running, riding, need a little bit of fiddling.
09:46That CBX seems to be on its own.
09:48Yeah, it's not for sale.
09:49Yeah, I thought so much.
09:50Yeah.
09:51That DT400 over there.
09:53Yeah.
09:54What's the damage on that?
09:55It does need the side stand repair.
09:57I was going to say it's got a little issue with that.
09:59That's why it's leaning up against that part.
10:01Yes.
10:02But because of that, three grand.
10:04And the FZ 750?
10:06Yeah, very rare.
10:092,700 quid.
10:11There's just so much to choose from.
10:14Two and a half for that.
10:162,750.
10:18Cheapest slab side you're ever going to buy.
10:212,700.
10:22Two and a half for that go.
10:24See.
10:25Yep.
10:26That's right.
10:27We're done in Essex with Graham and his huge collection of Japanese superbikes.
10:35He wants three grand for a slightly troubled GSXR slabby, but can we get it for less?
10:43$2,750.
10:46Cheapest slab side you're ever going to buy.
10:48to buy two seven yeah there we go brilliant all right mate look it is a
10:57very cheap slabby you're right yeah I mean you know look man I think we can we
11:01can do some cosmetics on it and sort it out and have it as a rolling restoration
11:05for someone to go next you know I mean yes exactly yeah lovely time yeah can we
11:09come again yeah bring your checkbook you can come every time
11:14you're coming out very sheepishly why what would you imagine a dog house to look like because I'll
11:29tell you what mate I'm in it this is a lovely jigsaw it is that's the good news yes the bad
11:36news is is that the fairing is in quite a bad state of repair like there oh yeah and screens broken I
11:42didn't tie it down very well in the van ah that's why I'm in the doghouse right hasn't
11:50broken the levers hasn't I don't know quite how it did it but I opened the back of the van and it's
11:54on its side that's good well this side's broken anyway isn't it okay all right okay all right all
12:01right well thank you for being so understanding but I have to tell you mate I think you could
12:05describe I think I might be flagellating myself emotionally before we do anything we should
12:11see if we can get it running and also it should sound an absolute dream yeah shouldn't it yes
12:19after a sarni and a cup of scorch we get a slabby into the shed
12:23right let's put some fuel in don't put too much in in case it goes everywhere are you gonna stand on
12:33that and pour fuel don't fall off and do your ankles break your leg knock the bike over same way now
12:41coming out the bottom not yet so far so good right ready yeah come on baby it runs just about but it's
12:56not happy it sounds very much like a block pilot jet doesn't it does sound like that when you twist
13:07the twist grip it dies which is a pilot jet block but we don't know if we've got fuel flow to the
13:13carbs we need to eliminate that first before we condemn pilot jets okay all right Alan drains the
13:21first call it's a bit yellow it must be the old fuel in the car it's going white now which is a new
13:28feel so it's definitely flowing yeah quite the other possibility is a gunked up spark plug
13:34one of the cylinders sounds particularly feeble
13:41just warming up spark plugs try and burn off some of the carbon because the carbon is causing a short
13:50so it's sparking down the side of the electrode rather than between the two gaps so I'm just trying
13:54to recover the spark plug by heating up the blowtorch and the electrode gets red hot and burns off all
13:58the carbon hopefully kills a problem so hopefully that knackered plug might be our root cause
14:16yes that is rideable all right there that's very good I cannot say one other thing that's
14:35mildly exciting it was I'm mildly excited which is probably the first time today but that ain't the
14:42only good news just had a little rummage this is from that other jigsaw that we restored and this
14:48one's new but it was just black rather than I wanted the clear one but that works quite nicely
14:53no straight on yeah that fits so that's lovely so that's great we don't have to buy one of them
14:57that's so good as well isn't it so do you think we need to take the fairing and stuff off or should
15:01we just run it I think we should I think we should get it up and running and riding and then take the
15:07fairing and whatever else body work off take the tank off and drain the fuel out
15:11happy days man that's it next day it's still a little inclement so skin starts on the bodywork
15:20we've got to obviously replace the screen but also I want to try and repair this crack in the
15:26fairy so I'm actually gonna remove the fairing remove the screen glue the crack bolt the screen back
15:33on and hopefully fit it on again what could possibly go wrong motorcycle fairings are a relatively recent
15:44innovation only becoming commonplace after World War two initially they were steel or alley before they
15:52went plastic in the 1970s right the next major job on this is to glue this split together first of all I'm
16:02gonna put this powder in into the crack and then I'm gonna drip the glue in and the second it hits
16:07this it more or less goes off straight away skids using Q bond two parts super glue which is both strong
16:16and flexible do you know what that looks quite strong I think we'll just let that go off I might put a
16:23bit more of the gray on this just hardens it you're just building up layers soon as this contacts the other
16:29stuff it goes like rock I may upset Henry by using the whole tube but if it works it's a cheap fix
16:37that doesn't look bad and if it is as strong as everyone says that will do with our slabby capable
16:50of over 140 miles an hour a windscreen is pretty much a necessity after a bit of a battle that is back
17:01on and it is glued together so it's a late night I'm going home next day skid reveals the fruits of his
17:11labor he's repaired the front fairing but left the side panels off I've had the fairing off right I've
17:19glued it back together here right fitted new well nuts and then new screen you had it's been very
17:24industrious it's all done look it's rock solid I'll tell you what right yeah the first time in a very
17:30long time we've got something right mainly because I have been on the phone to chopper Roy yeah okay
17:36Chopsicle says don't worry about the fairing because he'd like to buy it with the fairing to
17:43be done by the next owner I mean save him a couple of quid on the purchase exactly I quite like them
17:49like this without the fairing anyway do you know that in the summer naked I mean why not very popular
17:54back in the day so look I've agreed with him a price right of three two happy days so quick 500
18:00quid mate yeah lovely we don't have to send the fairing off and the body panels and all that kind of
18:05stuff he'll take those okay so look Roy's gonna come over but before he comes you know to have a
18:11look at his goods because he's only seen a photo of it yeah I think we should take it out for a
18:16light that's not a good idea did you think definitely and we're away Alan's on his Honda pan-european skids on a Kawasaki
18:31GT-R Fowl and I'm sitting pretty on our new slabby the noise is sublime
18:44immediately just brings me straight back to being 21 again blimey do you know what it's 40 years 40 years
18:53but I'm still riding and I'm still alive and I've still got some friends so that's gonna be good right
19:01the slabby was the first in a long line of race replicas inspired by Suzuki's race-winning
19:10XR 41 when you get on to a faster road you can really feel the power
19:15the slabby remains one of the great sleds of the 1980s
19:37the only problem with this ride out it's just too short
19:41hey what a lovely ride sounds nice following you it's not does it out it just gave me that little
19:58bit of a lift that I needed this morning I mean that's what motorcycling is all about
20:01mate you could do some miles on that right now and for 3,200 quid chopper Roy's in clover man
20:08well I think he is there's got to be room in it it's ran faultlessly hasn't it there's no smoke no rattles
20:13it's lovely it's such a lovely thing
20:15next day the man himself arrives
20:20now chops I do worry when we do a deal on the phone together right that it's not quite what you
20:29want but anyway look there is languishing in the sunshine hey boys chops is here
20:34does sound nice because it's got the yoshi muir on it
20:40yeah there is a bit of repair needed yeah there's no point is there but there is no point the new owner
20:54can do that or if they want to keep this paint job then obviously they can have this repaired and then
21:01just respray the whole thing but I think it's nice sort of naked you know I like them like this with
21:06the fairing on without the lowers because in the summer it's nice not having the lowers yeah see the
21:11engine as well I can't you which is nice see the engine yeah I've got just the man for this there'd be
21:15no point mending them all right okay mate okay well look as we agreed three two yeah yeah happy very
21:21happy yeah shake hands deals a deal thank you boy that's really nice so look I gotta tell you mate seeing
21:27is you're part of the firm anyway we bought it for two seven yeah yeah so I've made 500 quid yeah happy
21:33yeah everyone's happy everyone's happy everyone's happy everyone's up for a nice little earner
21:57yeah you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you're right you
