A fan-favorite figure from season two will have a much greater role in the third iteration of the Netflix breakout.

00:00Things are about to get even stranger.

00:09Netflix just revealed the first new cast members for season 3 of Stranger Things.

00:13The streaming giant announced casting for two roles in the show's upcoming season,

00:17and one of them is already a familiar face within the Upside Down universe.

00:20Priya Ferguson, who plays Erica Sinclair, Lucas' younger sister.

00:24After guest starring in season 2, Ferguson will return in season 3 as a recurring star.

00:28And Erica won't be alone. Netflix notes that Erica will be accompanied by an army of friends

00:33as she heads into the third season of the series.

00:35No longer content with sitting on the sidelines, Erica finds herself on a wild mission

00:40to save Hawkins, Indiana from a dangerous and unexpected new threat.

00:44But that's not all. Another new actor has been added to the Stranger Things cast,

00:48Maya Thurman-Hawk. The actress plays Joe March in BBC and Masterpiece's adaptation of Little Women.

00:54Thurman-Hawk will play a brand new character on Stranger Things named Robin,

00:59an alternative girl who is equal parts sharp and playful.

01:02Bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life

01:05and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.

01:09So, what exactly does that dark secret entail?

01:11Well, Stranger Things fans are pretty much in the dark on that.

01:14While the first season ended with a strong indication of the next year's story,

01:18season 2 ended in such a way that the future of the series is somewhat unknown.

01:22And that's exactly how the Duffer Brothers won it.

01:24They previously told The Hollywood Reporter,

01:26Last year, we had a lot of little cliffhangers at the end of the season.

01:30We didn't want to do that again. We didn't want to box ourselves in for season 3.

01:33We wanted to be able to start season 3 on a very clean slate.

01:37The third season of Stranger Things is expected to hit Netflix in 2019.
