00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London. Today we're looking at the
00:05iconic London Bus, which is one of the city's most recognisable symbols, but its story goes
00:10back nearly 200 years. In the 1820s, London's first horse-drawn buses, called Omnibuses,
00:18began carrying passengers through crowded streets. By the early 1900s, these were replaced
00:24by motorbuses, making travel faster and more reliable. In 1956, the iconic red double-decker
00:31routemaster was introduced, designed to carry large numbers of people while navigating narrow
00:37roads. It quickly became a global symbol of London. Today, London's buses are modern,
00:43accessible and increasingly electric, carrying millions of passengers every day, while continuing
00:49a tradition of public transport that has shaped the city's life for generations.
