01:33whatever is about to be thrown at us is gonna be really exciting Aurora is here hi designers
01:38welcome to the Bata shoe museum we are standing amongst one of the most comprehensive collections
01:46of footwear on the planet over 15,000 shoe artifacts and indigenous belongings are preserved right here
01:54under one roof including a few pairs designed by yours truly I love shoes it really says a lot about
02:04somebody from what they're wearing on their feet it's fitting we're here because for this week's
02:08challenge shoes will serve as your inspiration each of you will design a high fashion look inspired by one
02:17of these distinct shoe styles your designs should not only complement this fabulous footwear but tell
02:25the story of the person you envision wearing it those red thigh high boots are like please do not give me
02:31those the judges are going to be looking for some serious creativity this week so make sure you kick it
02:38up a notch Curtis you won the last challenge so you get to pick first choose wisely hmm it might seem a
02:49bit obvious but I think I'm gonna select the Victorian boot they're even cuter up close there you go
02:56which designer do you choose to follow in your footsteps hmm another really hard decision because
03:06I had to beat her last challenge I'll let Maya choose next I think I'm gonna have to go with the 60s
03:12Mondrian boots next I have to pick my Montreal sister Kat I want those cowboy boots for sure my safe space
03:19want to bring that aesthetic to a high fashion level I'm choosing plastic it's week six so I'm not
03:26gonna pick a shoe that's gonna keep me in my comfort zone I'm gonna pick the black and white saddle shoe
03:32wrong I'm gonna go with hologram shoes because I'm from the future Leland I think I'm gonna stick with my
03:42comfort zone and clearly go with the red patent thigh highs and of course last but not least Charles
03:49do you want to come up and grab yours I was picked last because I'm a threat and that's okay Charles
03:54that means you get the fluffy stilettos but what the hell am I gonna do with this to start you off on
04:00the right foot TD is providing the winner of this challenge with five thousand dollars this will be a
04:09two-day challenge you have 30 minutes to sketch here at the museum before we head to the fabric
04:15shop where you'll have five hundred dollars to spend good luck oh these are cute let's sketch baby
04:24place these here for inspiration I feel that everybody picked the shoe that is instinctive
04:31to them I actually don't know too much about the black and white saddle shoe I just really like it
04:36and I think it would be smart to show the judges something new I'm really gonna tap into like my drag
04:42references this boot just means a lot for the drag community that I know I've sewn for so many Queens
04:49in Toronto it's insane so I just think that this like strong feminine checkerboard print look could
04:56just be so cool on the runway I'm trying to do something that is creative and still has ties to
05:03the drag community like I feel like I should be doing it for my dolls you know I'm thinking I'm gonna go
05:09pirate like fierce female captain of a pirate ship you know I decide to take the shipwrecked approach with
05:18this look because the shoe is Victorian which leads you to think corsetry and lace and all of the
05:24things I've already done but if I can take us back out onto the sea and do something that feels more fun
05:29I might catch the judges off guard so I'm gonna do a wide leg pair of culottes with a matching taffeta
05:35vest some off-the-shoulder deconstructed puff sleeves and a long train in the back I'm excited for this I
05:42don't know what I have to do to impress the judges this week two of my favorite looks I've done so far
05:47had me in the bottom so that sucks but I'm just trying to really let these shoes speak to me the
05:56shoes scream 60s so I'm referencing that classic mod silhouette of that a-line mini dress and I really
06:03want the look to reference all of the lines happening on the shoes and I'm gonna find a way
06:09to sneak the color in subtly all right everybody time to go shopping let's do it all right designers you
06:22have 30 minutes and $500 to shop all right go oh my god oh my god oh my god which gray will win
06:34this is not what I'm looking for I'm thinking I want to get chiffon because I want to do something a
06:44little bit different but at the same time that's still like Western so I want to do a jacket with
06:51ruffle sleeves and a pair of chops over a mini skirt what do you think about this base of a skirt jacket
07:00and then the ruffles over it is it like bizarre it's either gonna be a hot mess or like ho couture yeah
07:10okay all right where are you gonna go with this I'm going right here oh wow okay the word that's
07:22coming to my head is the word that I do not want to say out loud to you again 100% I love that word
07:27but also hate that word uh-huh remember we're looking for high fashion oh high fashion do you
07:33know how hard it is to make a red patent by high boot not look kinky boots all right hologram we're
07:41hologram yes I mean this is very cool I'm looking for holographic fabrics that actually matches the
07:48shoes I want to make sure that whatever I'm selecting stays in that high fashion range because some
07:56holographic fabric have a tendency to look a bit cheap there's literally not any pleated white fabric
08:08at all here so I'm getting a little flustered and I'm just panicking just don't have the fabrics that
08:14I was looking for so I'm trying to pivot I decided to create a white pleather kind of overdress
08:20that has cutouts that's definitely more me giddy up cowgirl let's go yes yes time is up
08:29ta-da grab your td cards we gotta go let's do it where am I let's go I'm here I'm back at our
08:44original spot oh it's foster I'm with Curtis table buddies for the first time I know there is a rumor
08:52that anyone who sits on the table with Curtis is going to be eliminated challenge number one
08:57I'm table buddies with Naomi Naomi you are out challenge number three I'm table buddies with
09:03dalrumic dalrumic you are out whether the table curse is real or not watch out you worried about
09:09the curse I am not worried about the curse because I'm a curse breaker baby okay a curse breaker okay
09:16it is super important that I nail this because I feel like these shoes actually fits my aesthetic
09:23I'm pretty happy with a shoe that I pick my inspiration for this design is a girl that
09:29is clubbing in the year 3000 so I'm definitely thinking hologram vest top with a skin tight shirt
09:36and cargo pants this is a great opportunity for me to actually show the judges what I can do and
09:42what my brand is about I'm actually excited about this one I'm happy for you thank you I
09:47I didn't love being safe last week it's not a great feeling I'm just feeling a little bit
09:56overlooked I'm pushing the boundaries and I need that to be recognized it's a lot of damn work what's
10:02your idea Charles I want to do like a bustier in a pan the shoe itself is very feminine it can pull
10:08lingerie it can pull boudoir it can pull old Hollywood and I do not want to go in that direction so I'm
10:14trying to bring more masculine energy to it I'm going to be making these voluminous baby blue
10:19trousers with this structured peplum bodice this challenge is called step it up and that's what
10:25I'm going to do so I'm happy I get to play with color and I never want to play with color I know
10:33this holographic material is a lot and it is very easy to make this look cheap but I'm hoping to cut
10:40the red and the black up into mini squares and create my own fabric with it your checkerboard
10:47looks sick Leland thanks honey you made that in like a minute it was like three minutes but
10:52hey designers Curtis your fabrics are so fun tell me what you're gonna do with them so I got these
11:13lovely Victorian lace-up boots and I decided to take it to the high seas let's just make sure so when it's
11:20on the runway it feels like fashion first not pirate first yes of course I'll make sure it's
11:25still fashion your models walking the runway not the plank at least we hope the tide is rising
11:30I came up with something that like really feels like me you know how are you gonna bring it high
11:41fashion oh I believe this fabric is very like stretchy very hologram me it's a little super
11:49Manny camp sure it gives me a little superhero and a little cosplay but I also feel like sometimes like
11:56we all take fashion too seriously I'm like we need to have fun I think it'll look really mod and I'm
12:02hoping some cool really graphic stuff will not look super hero II I think it'll look a bit more high
12:09fashion great all I want is high fashion great great so what colors do you have your pink blue and white
12:18for me this is a big jump I could go full-on white with this look but I don't want to this competition
12:25is helping me figure out how I can express myself in new ways and for me to play with color this kind
12:32of bag so you chose fabrics that I feel are very elevated they're also very quiet and minimal so
12:43how are you gonna make this look really pop I think I'm gonna lean into my styling and tailoring
12:48menswear experience time has not historically been on your side this time I am definitely pushing myself
12:54I am making a blazer and a super baggy pair of smoky gray pants in two days I think it'd be great for me
13:01to show the judges something that is new I'm going to win this week I'm stepping on the gas and
13:06working as fast as I can hi you picked one of your favorite shoes the shoe is very you you've been
13:15given a lot of advice over the past several weeks and I'm not sure how much of it you've actually
13:20listened to oh great towards the end sometimes of the process you can see that you're struggling and
13:27the execution isn't there and that's what the judges are starting to notice I am feeling very
13:32misunderstood by the judges you're in the bottom for the last two weeks in a row I think I should
13:38have won every challenge along the way but it is not a good feeling to be in the bottom and I really
13:43want that to change this week I think that there's definitely a lot of things that I absolutely need to
13:48work on throughout the past couple weeks and I'm trying to bring all those things in what you've
13:52sketched is really good I really appreciate that it is really good and that's why you're here she
13:59seems to really like my idea and be really encouraging of it so I'm trying to focus on
14:03that it's hard for me to really know what exactly the judges want because sometimes they're loving my
14:09storytelling sometimes they're saying it's too much so I'm doing what I want and hoping that they like it
14:15designers I think a lot of you made really safe shoe choices and I'm not sure that the person who
14:24plays it safe is a person that's going to win $100,000 you've got three and a half hours let's see what
14:32you guys got thank you get into it I have to focus on the holographic vest I want to get that done
14:53and get it out of the way because I want to see if this look is gonna be high fashion enough if not
14:58then I could just scrap it it can look very costumy and I'm trying to stay away from that the street
15:03can be high fashion can it though because yeah street street can be high fashion I'm gonna have
15:08to I'm gonna pull something out yeah you'll be fine it's a new day I still think the competition is
15:22anyone's game but I'm feeling pretty good about my design it's definitely different from everyone
15:26else's we have Rome doing a holographic jacket Curtis is pirating it up Leland is doing something that
15:35I simply cannot even understand what's going on over there and I also see some ruffle thing from cat
15:41girl I don't know how's your top coming I did the bodice I'm just waiting for the model but I decided to
15:49scratch the skirt oh yeah I'll do a pants instead last night in my room I tried a pair of chops over
15:56one of my mini skirts and really didn't work I'll just play it safe and do pants instead we're not
16:04gonna see a lot of the shoe but we're gonna see the inspiration the shoe are gonna be hidden by ruffles
16:13you're such a technical person Foster me yeah like the way that you approach your work like you're
16:21very you know I never actually saw myself as that I've been trying to make it as a designer for over
16:2915 years but my full-time job is a PSW I work with the elderly being a PSW and being a fashion designer
16:36it's been really challenging it's not enough to be hopeful I need a sign sometimes you just need
16:42the reassurance well I never said it looked good oh I'm just kidding oh my goodness isn't it fun being
16:50at a table with me oh I love it wouldn't have it any other way how are you going with your stuff
16:56mm-hmm it's quite good I'm still gonna keep it slightly street but more elevated street the whole point of
17:04this outfit is that I have to match it with the shoes and so I still need this holographic fabric
17:10and now I'm thinking maybe I do these triangle the fence using the hologram fabric it's time the
17:17judges get on the train to Rome this is a week all roads lead to Rome you're painting beads why I just
17:28want them to be really clean and blend in my plan is basically to secure these panels together with
17:35white pearls and black thread which will blend into the dress underneath a bit of the black thread is poking
17:41through so I grabbed some white paint let's make it look perfect and clean yeah you're like why are you
17:46doing that being self-taught I want to prove to my family that you can succeed my parents moved here from the
17:54USSR before it was Russia and my dad had some pretty high ambitions for me to be a doctor and it was
18:00very hard for him to accept that I wasn't going to follow the path he wanted for me and I want to prove
18:08that you are the person who can create your own destiny hey everyone all right who is looking for
18:16their soul mate I've got your models so the the pants is really perfect I don't even think I'm gonna
18:35change it at all actually I'm feeling great I really like the ruffles and the tweed adds a little luxury
18:43high fashion to the garment cool to see these attached yeah so where are the other colors so
18:50the plan is to have them underneath here but do you think it would be better to shorten the thick
18:54band at the bottom or shorten this row I think shortening the thick band at the bottom yeah I think
19:01it feels heavy the other thing that I would just say is like really making sure that these attachments
19:06feel clean and intentional yeah definitely agree that that will be a priority excited to see it
19:11continue coming together thank you thanks give me like a huge flex just oh my god uh hello gun show
19:21okay those shoes can very easily give bedroom yes and nothing about this looks as bedroom so you've
19:27really elevated the shoe taking the out of the we're out of the boudoir out of the boudoir and
19:32we're hopefully at the Met Gala yes I'm very happy for me I'm pulling out all the stops here here up
19:38yeah feeling it there trusting you okay I have not made trousers in this competition so this is a huge
19:46leap for me I want to win because if we're going to talk about pushing yourself to the absolute limits
19:51and then also designing a look based on a shoe that you didn't pick like this is a huge challenge for me
19:56so this moment will come in here today I'm seeing all of my elements start to blend and
20:03merge into each other and I'm feeling really confident in my textile choices as well as my
20:07silhouette I mean even the way that just felt like naturally so the runway might be demanding a little
20:16bit more drama than what this is giving right oh yeah for sure because right now it feels really safe
20:22yeah yeah I think in order to take it to a high fashion place for the runway you just need to
20:26exaggerate something a bit more yeah I'm already thinking I'm already thinking so from the front when
20:34she's coming down the runway it'll just look like she's wearing an all-black look with those yes is
20:40that too risky don't you think that there should be some nod to that shoe in the front of the garment
20:46there just needs to be a connection to the shoe okay Aurora is right so what I'm gonna do is add
20:53vents around the front of the pants as well this entire thing I'm gonna have to redo it all right
20:59models time to head out see you tomorrow see you tomorrow more than ever this week we need these looks to
21:08be well executed the highest of high fashion I will leave you to it thank you thank you
21:21Foster what are you adding to your suit I'm just adding some red accents on the shoulders I picked
21:28this shoe specifically for the reason that I do not want to play it safe I'm going to accentuate the
21:34shoulders I'm going to give them a little bit of drama and instead of baggy pants I'm going to make
21:39a skirt I just wanted to make it more interesting I'm kind of having a bit of a freak out I'm not
21:52happy with it the pearls you don't like the pearls I don't like that you can see the black thread I'm
21:59just feeling super frustrated take a sec I'm so stressed out you got this honey you got this the
22:07judges have mentioned that my execution sometimes doesn't measure up and I don't know how to fix this
22:13what am I gonna do let's get started runway runway walking into the workroom this morning we have
22:34so many little things to see through but I think it's finally hit us that we're short on time and we're
22:42short on energy I just need to move as fast as I possibly can I wanted to do the vents on the pans
22:49but I don't have the time for it and this isn't a time to figure it out Foster how are you doing
22:56this is just a weird place to be I come in here and I'm like yeah I got this and then I start sewing
23:04and I'm like no I don't got it yeah and then so I have to keep the faith I think being an immigrant
23:11in Canada I'm not just here fighting for myself I'm fighting for my parents to represent them to give
23:18them something more than what they've achieved so I just got to make this work all right designers it
23:29is boots on the ground no time to waste today models come on in good morning hey oh my god my
23:42models arrived and nothing is really completed yet give me two seconds I'm gonna pin this and then
23:48we'll get you fitted you definitely brought some drama from yesterday yes this is what I had in mind
23:56love that a lot I put in some red fabric what happened to the pants you decided to do a skirt I just
24:03felt like the pants would just be quite predictable do you think it's too long as it is right now yes I'm
24:11gonna shorten the length of the skirt because I want the shoe to shine and then just focus on
24:15everything being like neat clean sharp polished got you all right how are we looking so I'm really
24:26happy I think it's almost there how much are we showing of the shoe the shoe is an inspiration right
24:33so the answer has very little of the chef we see it and it's really working well yes those shoes are
24:40the hair there but no I don't think it's gonna be a problem this is actually like really well done but
24:47this is a lot is there ever a world where you would consider just cutting these off I don't know it's
24:58just something to consider the ruffles are perfect she's crazy I don't want to cut those sleeves I will
25:04not cut them he will not cut it off I love those sleeves I'm not getting them never so what happened
25:12here how did you I glued it at least so that we could try it thought you know better it's all together
25:18than in pieces what about o-rings in like a Paco Rabanne way okay I'm gonna go for the o-rings we're gonna
25:25make it happen but I have no idea how long it's gonna take I've never done this before is it lower
25:33is it like a this kind of moment the feathers are beautiful I love this little dip painted feather
25:40moment it's so edgy and fun I think this is the vibe it's giving a little Vivian Westwood sex
25:46collection it's giving a little like Betsy Johnson this isn't giving Vivian Westwood listen up it'll make
25:54sense but definitely is it my fashion yes and no but it screams me I'm not worried all right
26:07designers an hour and a half until runway let's go let's go let's go I have an hour and a half left
26:18and I'm going to completely redo how this look is secured I wish I hadn't wasted time on
26:24all the other options the rings look good thank you let's put this one just to see what it looks
26:31like I'm looking around the workroom and I don't see the shoe being the star and I hope the judges see
26:38that I'm just so happy with my buttons look cats tweed ruffle thing let's just say I would not have chosen
26:48those fabrics okay designers when you're ready start taking your models to the L'Oreal Paris glam room
26:55I love a glowing moment and I love shining skin oh she's gonna glow I was thinking like a bold black
27:06liner oh I love that idea so I'm gonna use the shadow stick that comes in shimmers and matte it's
27:13transfer proof it's easy to glide on and it's going to add this multi-dimensional feel so that
27:18the black doesn't just overwhelm her eye I'm so excited to see how it turns out guys we have 10 minutes
27:24left oh my god you guys the anxiety is anybody else freaking out my hands selling as fast as I can
27:32these zippers are gonna be the death of me oh god do project runway they said it'll be fun they said
27:42final looks the runway is in one minute I'm just gonna futz with this front panel just a schmiedel
27:50let's see what's going on here so I made this vest and I don't know whether I should keep it or
28:00lose it we got to make a game time decision here this is what it looks like if I remove it then there
28:07is barely anything tying the outfit to the shoes so it is gonna stay time to head to the runway let's go

28:20hi designers welcome back to the runway this week you were asked to create a look inspired by a
28:39distinct shoe style a look that doesn't just match the shoe but tells a story of its unique identity
28:47and you all dove in feet first but just like a pair of flip-flops in this competition you can be in
28:56one day and out the next please welcome your judges fashion designer Spencer Badu nice to see you
29:05fashion journalist Jeannie Becker hi designers you all look so wonderful and meet the NFL's first
29:13ever fashion editor stylist Kyle Smith hi designers Kyle Smith is here fingers crossed he likes my look
29:23let's get this show started this might be one of my favorite looks I've made during this competition the fit is correct the shoes are shining and the cherry on top a gorgeous train flowing from the back just like the waves of the high high seas
29:48oh my model is stomping the runway and just serving it I'm so proud of this look it takes that period
29:58inspiration but it brings it to all the things that I love I'm really glad I pivoted to the o-rings I just
30:04love that clean circular shape and I think it just worked so well for the look
30:08I feel pretty confident in the design this garment is built from the pair of shoes and that was a challenge
30:18the vest definitely is catching my eye but I just want her to take it off so they can see the back
30:23it has that iridescent thing going on so when the lights are hitting it it is hitting it in the right places
30:29I want to show the judges tailoring and something that is adventurous and exciting
30:37there of course there's the red showing on the shoulders and I am so glad I made the skirt short
30:44my outfit really exists in the realm of the shoe now that is high fashion
30:49I really worked on those ruffles to be perfect and to blend in together and to fit in the color palette
31:05I love it this to me gives a bit of high fashion you know and I see the drag that I wanted to bring
31:14to it I love the skirt I love the corset I love the feathers it's really campy and me everything on
31:23it's super primo for me the shoe here is the star I know women who would die to wear this trousers are
31:36really unexpected in this look just wanted to flex my couture muscle and I just wanted to show my
31:41skill here I feel like I deserve to win designers please step up to the runway some of you knocked our
31:58socks off in this challenge but unfortunately it may be time for the other shoe to drop when I call your
32:09name please step forward Charles Curtis you two are in congratulations you can leave the runway thank you thank
32:25you congratulations guy oh we're in back to the couch I'm just confused because I honestly thought
32:36you'd be in the top I thought you'd be in the top but safe is just as sexy to me I'm kind of gobsmacked
32:42I poured my heart into that piece and for me to be safe is really strange the five of you make up
32:49tonight's highest and lowest scores but only one of you can be the winner let's start with one of our
32:58favorite looks of the night Foster I'm really impressed with this look you let the shoe start
33:07the sentence but you finished it off with the outfit I picked this shoe because I wanted it to push me
33:13outside of my comfort zone I wanted it to be different I really love it I love the juxtaposition
33:18of the structure jacket and the flowy skirt I think there's something very poetic about it the draping
33:23of the skirt is gorgeous and it really shows off the shoes which was this week's challenge for me the
33:28cherry on top was the little pizza red and the little slits on the shoulders that's a very ambitious
33:34thing to create a jacket of that nature yeah and you're really pushing yourself and we all really
33:41appreciate that we're really proud of you Foster good job thank you so much now let's bring out one
33:46of our least favorite looks of the night had your hand out ready there around I wish there was no best
33:58as you made her take it off right now I curious why you didn't make her take it off before it cheapens
34:04that look I liked the best the silhouette was the only cool thing when I saw the back I said oh you
34:11incorporated the shoes you understood the point of this challenge but it was hidden it was hidden
34:16behind the vest I didn't see enough imagination in the look and I know that you're really capable of
34:22that I thought it was rather lackluster I think my biggest issue was the pants with the hem of the
34:28bell-bottom you had the best shoes of them all I love those shoes but we really don't even know what
34:35that shoe really looks like to get this idea out makes sense let's bring out the next look which also
34:42received one of the lowest scores damn when I saw this come down I was getting maybe comic book
34:49character one of the criterias of this challenge was to make it feel high fashion when I got the like
34:56thigh high red hologram boot to me that like represents my community these boots are costume
35:03boots I get a little bit of what you're doing however taste wise to us it was a little cheap
35:10I felt like Santa's helper on top just her in the middle and then the most gorgeous shoes I've
35:17ever seen on the bottom these boots maybe Leland you're good under a little pressure and a little
35:23bit of constraints the denim challenge and the bathroom tissue challenge those were your best looks
35:29I think this one's more costuming for me right let's bring out our next favorite look of the night
35:40well this look made my heart sing I'm a child of the 60s I mean this is my era absolutely loved it I
35:48saw these gorgeous 60s boots and what came to mind was bringing in a bit more deconstruction and edginess
35:55you turn about house and you made a badass you know I really love this look I think the panels
36:00are very cool I think it brings in the lines but I think we need some color but storytelling check and
36:07execution check this last design received one of the lowest scores so I got to pick cowboy boots I really
36:25wanted to to do a pair of chops to make it a little bit more chic I don't even know it was a boot in every
36:33look there's been a little bit of a cowgirl and I think in this case the pan is consuming the look
36:39it's very beautifully constructed I think if you just cut away some of the frills actually could be quite
36:45nice less certainly could have been more thank you cat thank you designers we have some very tough
36:56decisions to make you can leave the runway thank you that was crazy that was wild wild it's nice to
37:08have them say something nice for once I really had no idea how it was gonna go so just a huge relief
37:13all right judges who do we think should win this week I loved Foster I think if you could do a
37:20classic look and add your spin to it that's real talent I loved a little peekaboo red you know it's
37:25it's elegant it's minimal it had a Foster's handwriting all over it but there's no secret that I adore 60s
37:34fashion and I thought Maya's take on it was pretty fabulous those are some great details too it's the
37:41hardware we really saw what Maya had to offer I love how she was able to take a concept and put
37:47she didn't like a bit of a punk direction let's move on to who should be going home I did not like
37:54this Leland look it was shockingly bad that was costume to the max yeah again something that we have
38:02encouraged Leland did he forget steer away from let's not forget Kat did you know those were boots
38:08didn't even see the boots at all it was a kind of a turn off for me I think we could have done away
