03:20long enough see so you lengthen the string by putting the racket down like that see and picking
03:25it right up like that that's the way we had it worked out so there are a lot of ways of doing

04:33and what we want you to do is cover that tree with snow you see just cover it with snow and you use
04:38these to do it you just press that down like that you see and you cover it with snow now you hold it

06:34if you will in the meantime you can just put your hat down there and step up on this little platform
06:38and carry on for the family because in the back of this curtain is our famous magnetic board with
06:42all the words of a famous saying or quotation now they're all mixed up you've got to get them back in
06:46order in 20 seconds from the time i say go turn around face the audience if you will and don't
06:50turn back again until i tell you to now open the curtain
06:56turn around take a look
07:00go
07:18not quite right it's not quite right oh golly i'm awfully sorry just one little word was wrong

07:35refrigerator corporation a compact four cubic foot freezer which holds up to 150 pounds of frozen
07:41food your king freezer which is worth its weight in cold will save you time and money congratulations
07:48mr and mrs kopchick you have just won to beat the clock prize worth more than two hundred dollars
08:00well roxanne who do we have now but first i'd ask you to meet ricky and his mother and father mr mrs

08:30man what uh rating are you in scout you second you're just a tenderfoot when you join son last monday
08:35my son michael is a scout he uh became a tenderfoot last february when he became 11 and uh he's now
08:41second class he's working toward his first class you enjoy it yes very much oh i think it's a wonderful
08:45organization you're gonna have a lot of fun in scouting what do you want to be when you grow up
08:48well i don't really know i haven't made up your mind yet what does your daddy do oh he's an
08:52industrial engineer oh you say that kind of proudly i where do you work i work for photo electric
08:57company by i see up here on just a little free christmas trip that's right just a little trip
09:01mom's spending your money that's the way it usually works out well i'll tell you what uh miss loves if
09:08you don't mind uh have you got flat heels on there no i don't well i think maybe you want to kick your
09:12shoes off for this but you can do it after you get over there this is for your wife she had to start
09:15to work tonight so come on miss lobs if you come over here with me
09:20right over here as a matter of fact you won't have to i don't guess because those aren't very
09:24high heels i don't think she'll have to now if you step into that laundry bag the girls are holding
09:28there tuck your skirt down in it too that's the idea now what you have to do is to hold see where
09:36we have these marks hold hold by that mark there and hold by this mark over here now stretch that
09:41hold it by the inner inner mark right in here by this inner black mark and stretch it good and tight
09:46because what you have to do is to move from one ball to another and simply using that good and tight
09:51stretched underneath scooping up and get them in the bag you can't use your hands to help yourself you
09:55see just scoop them up and get them in the bag now i'll take a look at the clock see how many seconds you
09:59have 50 seconds all of them are you ready go oh don't touch with your hands all right let's have
10:08that one but don't touch with your hands scoop it good and tight hold it good and tight if you give
10:13that's another one one more to go is all you have now one more to go
10:43stretch it good and tight get it right down under before you scoop it right down under it right down
10:54all right stop the clock
11:04okay you left your shoes in the bag okay
11:08got to get out of the bottom of the bag to get the shoes out okay miss miles good enough
11:25thank you very much matter now as everybody remembers and i hope you do too last week our brand new bonus
11:30with a little chair and the dishes on the back legs went at only 300 hours and it ran three weeks so we've
11:34got a brand new one tonight and it involves this sir here is the top still catch you see which we've
11:38taken the top out of now here is a toupee hanging on a string that will go in there and this will go in
11:46there and that's all you have to do is get both toupees in the crown of that hat at the same time
11:50the only difference the way i did it is you're going to put it on your head and you can't use your hands
11:54at any time you just got to go and get one toupee and then somehow get the other toupee both of them
11:59inside the crown of that hat got the idea take a look at the clock see how many seconds you go
12:03you have 55 seconds it's worth 100 are you ready go
12:19so
12:31so
12:33so
12:45Oh, I'm sorry you didn't beat the clock.
13:04The clock beat you.
13:06Well, it was a good try anyway, Mr. Lowe.
13:10Very good try.
13:12Well, that course was worth $100 tonight.
13:14It'll be worth another $100 next week.
13:16And as you know, we add $100 each week until the stunt is finally completed.
13:20However, as I say, it's not an easy one.
13:22It's kind of a tricky one.
13:23And you just kind of got to work out ways of doing it.
13:25But it's kind of fun, too.
13:26You know, you don't know when that one leaves you.
13:27You keep looking around thinking it's still...
13:29Hey, everybody.
13:30I'm Matt Eisman.
13:31And I am right in the middle of the world's biggest chair and facing the back of it.
13:34And, Mr. Lowe, as you come back over here with me, we have a special kind of a hat for you to wear.
13:38I want you to look at it before you do, though.
13:40See how these two little poles are put together so there's a little sort of trough between them.
13:44All right, put the hat on.
13:45I'll show you why that's there.
13:46Turn around and face your wife.
13:47You can probably put that on yourself.
13:49Better just reach right up and haul it right on the way you should put a football helmet on.
13:52That's the idea.
13:53Now, what's going to happen is this.
13:54In the back of you is a whole supply of golf balls.
13:56Now, you steady the helmet with your hands.
13:58That's the only place you can use your hands.
13:59I'm going to place these golf balls one at a time in this little trough.
14:02And your problem is to make sure that you get over to your wife and she gets them off there one at a time without having them spill off the way that one did just then.
14:11Now, you cannot help him by any audible sounds at all.
14:14But you can go like this, show him which way to tip, which way the ball is rolling.
14:17All kinds of visual help you can give him, but not a sound.
14:20Okay?
14:21Then you take it from him.
14:22When you've got three there in that little box in front of you, we'll stop the clock and you'll beat the clock.
14:25And let's take a look at it.
14:26See how many seconds you have.
14:2755 seconds.
14:28All right.
14:29Get set, sir.
14:30I'm placing one up here.
14:31I'll tell you now to tip your head more to the right because you're slanting down.
14:34All right.
14:34You ready?
14:35Go.
14:37Move.
14:37Come on back here.
14:38Back up again.
14:40Go.
14:44Oh.
14:44Come on back.
14:45Back up again.
14:46You're tilting down too much to your left, sir, and you're leaning forward just a little bit.
14:50Are you ready?
14:51Go.
14:51You don't tilt fast enough when your wife shows you.
14:59Come on back here.
15:01You ready?
15:02Go.
15:09Come on back.
15:11Don't waste any time.
15:12That's the idea.
15:13And don't lean forward when you get there because if you do, it falls off.
15:16Go.
15:16Go.
15:16Go.
15:16Go.
15:17Go.
15:17Go.
15:17Go.
15:18Go.
15:18Go.
15:18Go.
15:18Go.
15:19Go.
15:19Go.
15:19Go.
15:19Go.
15:19Go.
15:19Go.
15:19Go.
15:21Hold it.
15:22Stop the clock.
15:23Now, I want to tell you one thing.
15:23Everybody does it.
15:24We did it ourselves when we first started.
15:25As you get to your wife, you kind of lean forward to help her.
15:27Don't lean forward.
15:28Tips it off.
15:29Don't you see?
15:29When you get there.
15:30All right.
15:31Are you ready?
15:32Go.
15:37There's one.
15:38Come on back.
15:42Get your head back a little bit.
15:44Go.
15:49All right.
15:49You got it.
15:50Have you?
15:50No.
15:51She dropped it.
15:51Got to get two more.
15:52Got to get two more.
15:53Come on, now.
15:53Ready?
15:54Go.
15:54Take it easy.
15:55Up, up, up, up.
15:58Here we go, now.
15:59Go.
16:01Don't lean forward.
16:03Don't lean forward.
16:04Come on.
16:05One more.
16:07Take it easy.
16:08Don't lean forward.
16:09Take it easy.
16:10It's the last one.
16:10Tip to your right little.
16:11Up.
16:11Come on back.
16:12Quick.
16:14Take it easy.
16:15You can do it.
16:16Go ahead.
16:17Go ahead.
16:17All right.
16:22Cut, cut, cut.
16:26Okay.
16:27Good.
16:29All right.
16:30Well, I was a close one, wasn't it, Rick?
16:32Yeah.
16:33Okay.
16:33Now it comes your turn, Ms. Lobs, to carry on for the family.
16:36So if you and your daddy will stand down over there, you can't help it anyway except by holding
16:39good thought.
16:40Step up on the far end of that platform.
16:42Turn around.
16:42Face the audience, Ms. Lobs.
16:43Back of you now is our famous jackpot board with all the words of a famous saying or quotation,
16:47but they're all mixed up.
16:48You've got to get them unmixed in 20 seconds from the time I say go so they spell out the
16:52saying or quotation we're after.
16:54Now don't turn around until I tell you to.
16:55Open the curtain.
17:00Just a minute.
17:00It's right over here.
17:02Turn around.
17:02Take a look.
17:05Go.
17:05Go.
17:05Go.
17:05Go.
17:05Go.
17:07Go.
17:09Go.

17:12Go.
17:12Go.
17:13Go.
17:14Go.
17:14Go.
17:15Go.
17:15Go.
17:16Go.
17:16Go.
17:17Go.
17:18Oh, golly, I'm sorry you didn't beat the clock.
17:28The clock beat you.
17:29It happens to be a man's home is his castle.
17:34A man's home.
17:35You almost did the first time, but you've all done mighty well.
17:38You've still gone through $200 clock.
17:41So let's see what you've won.
17:44A Mr. and Mrs. Furniture group of two chairs and an ottoman
17:48from the Shaw Manufacturing Company.
17:50Each piece is constructed with foam rubber cushions
17:52and exceptionally styled in quality fabrics for your living room or den.
17:57Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Lobb.
17:58You've just won a beat-the-clock prize worth more than $200.
18:01Congratulations, sir.
18:02Good luck to you.
18:03Good luck to you, boy.
18:04You're a good scout.
18:06All right, Roxanne, whom do we have now?
18:10But now we have Sergeant Norma and Sergeant Stan Groves from Mobile, Alabama.
18:15Either one outranks the other, huh?
18:16Well, let's say for that way.
18:17How are you?
18:18Nice to have you here.
18:19And how about you, sir?
18:20Fine.
18:21You are Mr. and Mrs., I take it.
18:22And how long have you been married?
18:23Eighteen days.
18:24Eighteen days.
18:25Did you meet in the Air Force?
18:26Yes, we did.
18:27You did.
18:28What were you doing?
18:29Move in a little closer, will you?
18:30What were you doing at the time?
18:31Well, we were both on a flight.
18:33You were?
18:34We were on our way to Tripoli.
18:36Stan is radio operator and I was a flight hostess with the Military Air Transport Service.
18:40You must have been the hostess with the mostess at that point.
18:43Well, certainly, I'm happy that you got together and I want to wish you both all the happiness in the world.
18:48Now, let's see what we have in store for you folks.
18:50As a matter of fact, it's for you, Stan.
18:52So, if you don't mind, did we put a pair of rubbers on you?
18:54No.
18:55We didn't?
18:56Have you got rubber sole shoes?
18:57Well, we got a pair here for you.
18:58Do you mind slipping these on so you can run back and forth a little bit?
19:01And as soon as you get them on, just come over here with me because this is on the $100 clock.
19:05And we want to make sure that you have a little something to purchase with there, you know.
19:08Even though they're a little big, they'll give you something like sneakers would.
19:11All right.
19:12Good boy.
19:13Now, right over here, there is the basket.
19:16And in this basket are a series of these little shoes, four in number, you see.
19:20These shoes, I'm going to spread out on the stage and you've got to pick them up.
19:23Now, in the meantime, each time you start, you want to stand right here and take this croquet ball, place it on this top step.
19:29Then, you release it, run down, pick up one of those shoes, run back, throw it in that basket, and grab this ball before it hits the ground.
19:37Now, you must throw the shoe in the basket before you grab the ball.
19:40Do you understand?
19:41And you keep going.
19:42There's one, two, two shoes, three shoes, four shoes.
19:44When you've got all four shoes in that basket, we'll stop the clock and you'll beat the clock.
19:47Take a hold of that ball if you will.
19:48I'll take the shoes out of the basket and place them out on the stage where they belong.
19:52We'll put one here, one here, one here, and one there.
19:56Okay.
19:57Now, take a look at the clock and see how many seconds you have.
20:00Fifty-five seconds.
20:01Are you ready?
20:02Go!
20:05Okay, there's one.
20:12There's two.
20:13There's one.
20:14If you lose out of one, we penalize you two.
20:15You go back two.
20:16That's all.
20:17Not all the way to the beginning.
20:18Are you ready?
20:19Go!
20:20Go!
20:21Attaboy!
20:22Take it.
20:23Take it.
20:24Good boy.
20:25All right.
20:26You beat the $100 o'clock on the board.
20:28Are you ready? Go. Go.
20:35Attaboy!
20:40All right, you beat the $100 o'clock on your first try.
20:44Now, that moves you up to the $200 o'clock, and I don't know what again.
20:48You can take those off now. You don't need those anymore.
20:50We just didn't want you to slip on this here stage of ours, that's all.
20:53All right, good enough, boy. Now you've got your wind up a little bit.
20:55We'll let you calm down, kind of catch your breath.
20:58Tomorrow on The Amazing Race.
21:00I'm telling you, we're winning.
21:05All right, sir, now, let's see what we have in store for you.
21:07Now, this involves a little husband and wife of the cooperation.
21:09Let's see how well you two are hooked in your wedded life.
21:12Come over here with me, both of you, if you will.
21:14Mr. Gross, if you step over there and take that hook and ring from Betty,
21:18and if you'll take this one, Stan, from Madeline.
21:20Now, hold them by the ends of the ropes,
21:22and each of you stand behind those black lines on the stage, you see?
21:25Now, you each have a hook and a ring.
21:28You see, you have a hook here and a ring here.
21:29You have a hook there and a ring there.
21:31What we want to do is end this stunt up with each one of these rings and hooks hooked.
21:35In other words, they must end like that.
21:37See the ring and the hook?
21:38There we are, right there.
21:39All you've got to do is have them all hooked like that,
21:41and you may not come forward from those lines.
21:43You swing them together one at a time and hook on one, then hook on the other.
21:47Got the idea?
21:48Well, if it hits the floor, no.
21:50No, it has to be swinging clear.
21:51Is that what you mean?
21:52You mean, can you fish it out starting on the floor?
21:54No, it must be swinging.
21:55It must swing out and catch on.
21:57Can be done quite easily, believe me.
21:58Take a look at the clock, see how many seconds you have.
22:0055.
22:01Are you ready?
