25 December - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Merry Christmas from everyone here at the Met Office.
00:03You may not be waking up to the white Christmas some of you will be dreaming of,
00:07but at least the weather's okay for travelling.
00:10Having said that, there is a cold and gusty wind blowing across the south,
00:14and there is a Met Office yellow warning in place for parts of Wales and southwest England,
00:18and usually strong sudden gusts developing here could cause a bit of disruption,
00:2350, 60 mile an hour winds.
00:25Elsewhere, that wind will be very noticeable right across the south,
00:28despite quite a bit of sunshine, it's going to feel cold on your Christmas Day walk,
00:32and especially cold if you're heading to the beach.
00:35Chance of one or two showers early on over the Channel Islands,
00:37and perhaps into the south of Cornwall, but other than that, it's dry.
00:41Further north, the winds are lighter, still chilly,
00:45and some quite cloudy skies over northeast England, parts of eastern Scotland,
00:49some stubborn fog patches over northern Scotland that may not shift throughout the day.
00:54If that happens, temperatures will struggle to get much above freezing,
00:56but generally, with a bit of sunshine, we'll be up to 5 to 7 Celsius,
01:00about average across the northern half of the UK,
01:03a touch below further south, and feeling much colder here because of that wind.
01:08It really will feel chilly, feeling more like freezing,
01:12or a touch below when you add on the strength of the wind.
01:15So don't underestimate that if you are heading out today.
01:19As we go through the night, we won't see a great deal of change.
01:22Again, quite a bit of cloud feeding into northeast England, parts of eastern Scotland.
01:26Could see a bit more clouds spilling up from the south, but most places will be dry.
01:30As the winds ease a touch through the night,
01:32we may see a bit more in the way of frost across parts of the south,
01:36perhaps a slightly colder night with a little bit more in the way of clear skies.
01:40Temperatures more likely to be closer to freezing across the south
01:43to start a boxing day than this morning.
01:45But it'll still feel cold through the day, despite, again, a bit of sunshine.
01:49Perhaps a sunnier day for northeast England compared to today.
01:53Probably a bit more cloud in the south compared to today.
01:56But for many, it's dry, it's bright.
01:58Still that wind, perhaps not quite as strong tomorrow as today,
02:03but still noticeable, still bringing a chill.
02:05Temperatures on the coast may be 7 or 8 degrees Celsius.
02:08But again, if you're going for that boxing day swim,
02:10be aware that wind will feel particularly raw if you're getting out of a chilly sea.
02:15Further north, there could again be some fog patches around
02:18that may take a while to clear.
02:20As we head into the weekend, it's likely to stay on the chilly side.
02:24But for more information on that,
02:26you want to hit subscribe to our YouTube channel

02:32I'll say it again, a very Merry Christmas
02:34from everyone here at the Met Office.
