Southern California was hit by one of the worst Christmas storms on record, with torrential rain triggering flash floods and prompting authorities to warn of landslides in wildfire-affected areas. Driven by the atmospheric river known as the Pineapple Express, carrying moisture from Hawaii to the U.S. West Coast, the storm is expected to deliver several months’ worth of rain in just a few days. The National Weather Service forecast heavy rainfall through Thursday, while officials declared a state of emergency in multiple counties, including Los Angeles.
