27 December - National afternoon forecast presented my Marco Petagna
Transcript
00:01Hello.
00:02Here's your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03I'm Marco Pitagno.
00:04We'll see a fair bit of cloud coming in from the north-east across northern and eastern
00:07parts of the UK as we head into Saturday afternoon.
00:10The cloud thick enough in one or two spots to give the odd patch of light rain or drizzle.
00:13Certainly the best of the sunshine across more southern and western spots and across
00:17parts of Scotland too.
00:18The temperature-wise, well, close to where they should be for the time of year in the
00:21range 529 Celsius, 9 is 48 in Fahrenheit, but if you add on the effect of quite a keen
00:27east to north-eastly breeze, it's certainly going to feel a bit cooler out and about,
00:30especially across the south and south-east.
00:32And here we could locally see gales in some very exposed spots.
00:35As we head into the evening and through the overnight period, we'll continue to see a
00:39fair bit of cloud moving in from the north-east across England and Wales.
00:41The best of the breaks here are across west Wales and the far south-west of England, but
00:45the cloud thick enough again in places to give the odd patch of rain.
00:48I think the most reliable clear spells tonight are likely across Scotland, locally across
00:51parts of Northern Ireland.
00:52And notice the blue colours here, indicating quite a widespread frost across Scotland as we
00:57head into the early hours of Sunday.
00:59Temperatures in rural spots here, certainly below freezing.
01:01Elsewhere though, with a fair bit of cloud around and that breeze still blowing, temperatures
01:04generally holding up in the range 4 to 6 Celsius, so mostly frost-free away from Scotland, where
01:09the frost will be quite widespread by Sunday morning.
01:12As we head into Sunday itself, that frost and fog across the north will only slowly lift
01:16in places to leave plenty of sunshine across Scotland.
01:19Sunshine and more fleeting across Northern Ireland, and again, a few bits of brighter weather
01:23developing at times across west Wales and the far south-west of England.
01:26But for much of England and Wales, southern and eastern Scotland are much of Northern Ireland
01:29too.
01:30Quite a cloudy day, mostly dry, and then Lotus later in the day will start to see some clear
01:34weather moving into the south-east of England.
01:36So a fairly clear end of the day here.
01:38Temperatures again close to where they should be for the time of year, peaking at about 6-8
01:42degrees in the south, but still quite breezy, although not as breezy as on Saturday.
01:45Whereas towards the north, a colder picture, certainly if any frost and fog is slow to clear
01:50here.
01:51Heading into the evening, that frost will fall more widely once again under clear skies across Scotland.
01:55Elsewhere, quite a bit of cloud around, so frost more limited.
01:59But notice that clear weather towards the south-east we mentioned earlier, starting to make inroads
02:02across more western parts of England and Wales, so we will see more in the way of frost forming
02:06more widely, I think, as we head into the early hours of Monday.
02:10That's pretty much it for me, but of course you can keep tuned to the Met Office forecast
02:13by following us on social media and by subscribing to our YouTube channel.
02:17I'll see you soon.
02:18Take care for now.
02:19Bye-bye.
