00:04Chaos and uncertainty surround us, division, violence, climate breakdown,

00:09and systemic violations of international law.

00:12A retreat from the very principles that bind us together as a human family.

00:17People everywhere are asking, are leaders even listening?

00:21Are they ready to act?

00:23As we turn the page on a turbulent year, one fact speaks louder than words.

00:27Global military spending has soared to $2.7 trillion, growing by almost 10%.

00:35That is 13 times more than all development aid,

00:40equivalent to the entire gross domestic product of Africa.

00:44All while conflict rages at levels unseen since World War II.

00:50On this new year, let's resolve to get our priorities straight.

00:54A safer world begins by investing more in fighting poverty and less in fighting wars.

01:00Peace must prevail.

01:02It is clear the world has the resources to lift lives,

01:06heal the planet, and secure a future of peace and justice.

01:09In 2026, I call on leaders everywhere, get serious, choose people and planet over pain,

01:16and I urge everyone who hears this message, play your part.

01:19Our future depends on our collective courage to act.

01:24This new year, let's rise together, for justice, for humanity, for peace.
