Snow and gusty winds led to major travel issues on Dec. 29, but there's still more wintry weather to come across the region.

00:00Let's start off with the alerts because this gives you an idea of what the concerns are,
00:03what are the impacts. It's wind and snow, spoiler alert. We take a look, we have lake effect snow
00:09warnings, we have winter weather advisories in the gray, the darker blue, those are winter storm
00:14warnings, and then all of these tan polygons, that is high wind warning. So wind, snow, bad
00:21combination. We talked about the blizzards, we could see snow swell conditions as well, a little
00:26bit of a difference there. I know we've been explaining in some more shorter segments tonight
00:30the difference between those, but blowing snow is the headline here. Now the core of the storm system
00:35up into Canada as this moves into the northeast, one of the reasons that we have additional
00:41precipitation behind the cold front that we saw with the rain and the freezing rain. We have had
00:47freezing rain reports into places like Albany, New York, so bad combination, ice with snow on top,
00:52and then there's the wind of course causing power outages, but not just power outages.
00:56We've seen a lot of damage as well. I mentioned in the Buffalo area, a lot of trees down reported,
01:01a lot of even like roof damage from some of the storm reports. We're seeing the kind of damage
01:06you see with a severe thunderstorm warning, we still have the thunderstorm to go with it. It's
01:10a different system with that strength of wind. Power outages are slowly but surely being resolved
01:15though. Jeff talked a lot about Michigan, New York, you're moving in the right direction,
01:1940,000 plus customers without power, but at one point we were well above 50,000 customers without power.
01:24So things moving in the right direction, but I know if you don't have power, it's not moving
01:28quickly enough. Current wind gusts at this point, Buffalo, we certainly are seeing improvement. We're
01:33at 45 miles per hour when we've had 60 plus mile per hour gusts there and in Pittsburgh as well,
01:39down to 33 mile per hour gusts there. Still at 26 in New York, we're at 22 about an hour, hour and a
01:45half ago. The point is here, we've seen flight delays also from all of this. That's the other impact,
01:50horrible timing, I know, because a lot of people traveling this week. It continues into tomorrow,
01:55unfortunately. Along the coast, 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts worse in Cleveland as we move forward
02:00here, so expect power outages, the damage, the flight delays all to continue as we head through
02:04tomorrow. Now let's talk about the snow because we're going to get two rounds of snow, so to speak,
02:09behind this system actually moving off into the ocean. We have lake effect snow that lingers behind,
02:15but then we also have a couple clippers that are going to bring some snow as well. You know,
02:19Jeff talks a little bit about this into the north central, but let's focus in on the northeast with
02:22future radar and clouds. Here's the lake effect snow showers lingering behind Tuesday. Our first
02:27clipper moves through widespread snow to Michigan to western Pennsylvania. Then there's a second one
02:32Wednesday, this one more southern and a little bit more widespread. The Ohio Valley through western
02:38New York, western Pennsylvania, you're going to see widespread snow as well. As far as our totals,
02:42most of us one to three, but downwind of the lakes, we're talking a foot plus of snow possible.
